You'd almost think that there were only 4 seasons (http://play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=184580&p=57&g=72&pa=sr), wouldn't you?

There are 4 production seasons, but 5 'air' seasons (at least in the US); Fox chopped up the 4 seasons and shown the episodes out-of-order in 5 seasons.

.This is excellent news.  I just hope it doesn't take them 5 years to begin making new episodes.

Depends whether they make them before or after the movie in 2007 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0471711/)

A movie? Yay! Let's just hope it doesn't suck. But since it's Futurama, it can't suck. Wheee!

Hmm. After watching so much Family guy, I started to find the humour in Futurama a bit... lacking...   That and when they cloned the professor, the series went downhill >..>  Hopefully this new series will be better.

That's because Family Guy is lowest-common-denominator, instant-gratification, gag-a-second twaddle.

Futurama actually requires you to leave your brain on.

No, The Simpson's is lowest-common-denominator.  That's why it isn't funny, no matter how hard you think about it.  It's also why they're coming up to 18th season.  I would think of The Simpsons to be closer to Full House than Futurama.  Yeah, it was funny 15 years ago, but now it's just recycled.  Futurama got a fresh start, by using sarcastic humor instead of clever humor, but it won't be long before it suffers the same fate.

You say that about everybody's post but your own, so I'm not surprised you say that about mine.

It's a different kind of gag.  Simpsons and Futurama get their funnies from dialog.  Family Guy relies on more on the on-screen action, which is why Family Guy quotes are rarely funny unless you've seen the scene yourself.

No, The Simpson's is lowest-common-denominator.

Au contraire mon ami. The Simpsons have a wide range of gags. Starting from simple slapstick, via common cliché bashing up to subtle insider gags that only small percentage of the viewers recognise or find funny.

Has it become repetitive ? Yes. Still enjoyable ? Yes. (I find the Simpsons are getting a little better since season 14/15, after the very mediocre seasons 9-13)

The only funny thing about Family Guy is the little football head.

And let's not forget American Dad.

American Dad is garbage.  The first two episodes I saw were enough to turn me away from the show forever.

If you don't want to forget something, don't forget King of the Hill, which is possibly the finest example of sophisticated animated comedy on God's brown polluted earth.

King of the Hill is probably one of the most unfunny shows on the planet. Family Guy is hilarious, American Dad is alright, and Futurama is ok - the jokes are a bit too predictable, imo.

Well, in the end it all boils down to different tastes, so the discussion is somewhat pointless.

Eh?

I'e found that futurama usually will make a comment, and then two seconds later have it occur. If having a memory longer than 4 seconds is ''leaving my brain on" I guess you're right.

I'm not knocking futurama. Some episodes were very funny. but others were just as much shtick as Family guy...

As opposed to Family Guy, where someone makes a comment, and two seconds later there's a flashback of it occuring.

I see a certain lack of understanding of Family Guy humor. You see a Family Guy joke would be like this:

Scene: Everyone is sitting at the dinner table.

Peter: "The one thing I hate are Internet arguements. They're like domestic abuse cases..."

Stewie: "Oh! Oh! Yes... but the make ups are so great! Like Zylonbane and Derek Smart!"

Scene: Flashback to Derek Smart and a Coke Machine in a bed. Derek is smoking.

Coke Machine: So Derek... when can I get out of this suit?

*Derek Smart jumps over the Coke Machine and clobbers it, flashback ends*

Family's Guy funny because of the sheer lunacy and complete randomness that occurs on any episode.

The Simpsons is hilarious because of its satirical view of society and its running gags.

Futurama is hilarious because of its satirical view that none of society's problems will change even in a thousand years.

Questions?
