Hello all im new. Well my problem is about a year ago I had both FS installed on my comp but things started to go wrong and then oneday my hard drive blew, (good thing i got warranty) well after I got my comp back i re-installed the FS games but right after I did my comp started making noises so i un-installed them and everything was fine so should i try agian? Is this a common problem I can fix? Ive also heard about the FS games causing problems with windows xp which is what im running on. And for those who post or ps thankyou for your time.

First time I heard about something like this mate.
There is no problem with FS and Windows XP, which is what I ran.
Really strange.

Maybe you've got a dodgy disk with a virus on it. Either that or it was just one hell of a coincidence.
Gotta win the award for the strangest FS2 tech problem ever.
-
Hmm... this is very odd indeed. What are your system specs?
Oh, and welcome to HLP! :)

That is wierd, it might be a physical defect on the CD Rom, that's all I can think of, but I've certainly never had any problems of this sort with any game, except one which used Starforce protection v1... That killed my CD Rom drive stone cold dead.

Hard Drives dying and your computer making strange noises are hardware related. Its extremely rare that a piece of software can influence your hardware like this and even more rare that a game does. That hard drive was going to die no matter what and "weird noises" can probably be traced to a fan that either had a rough spot on the ball bearing that had to wear through or something along those lines.
I'll be guessing that FreeSpace 2 is totally unrelated to either of these things. Highly improbable...you're more likely to be hit by lightning on a clear day.
FreeSpace 2 has no problems on Windows XP except for the TAB bug where the afterburners didn't always work...I think a recent SCP release fixed that little annoyance.

Make sure your drivers are up-to-date...I doubt Freespace itself would cause such a thing, but maybe rapid disk access or something? I had a problem with my Hard Drive getting corrupted by bad drivers once.

Well ive re-installed both games and havent heard anything, and yes my drivers did need a update stupid windows update said it was a non important update : / O yes its been awhile since I last played and was wondering how to get the mouse controls on a y-axis setup insted of inverted I just cant figure it out

No, it's not his computer. My computer is MUCH worse and retail works fine.
go to options-->controls-->ship-->look for Y-axis in the list on the left-->select it-->go to the bottoom left of page and hit 'invert'
