Once again, I was reinstalling Freespace 1 and I watched the freespace 2 trailer over. While I watched, I notice a weapon never seen in the full game... pretty interesting... The weapon was an SD-4 Sidearm Primary weapon. It looked like a shivan laser gun, but why isnt this in the full game?

It was renamed. It's the Subach HL-7, I think. The comments in weapons.tbl still call it Sidearm IIRC. Also, there was a missile called Crossbow, it's the one with wings that open up *doesn't remember name* :nervous:

Keep an eye open for the MI-3 Herring subspace bomb as well, I think that makes an appearence in the trailer.
-
Herring? Is that a Vasudan weapon? ;)

SD-4 Sidearm = Subach HL-7. The comments for the Subach call it the sidearm, yes. :)
Crossbow = GTW-?? Harpoon (forgot the numerical designation)

It seems there were quite a few renamed weapons since that trailer. I can think of these:
SD-4 Sidearm -> Subach HL-7
Scalpel -> Akheton SDG
Newton -> Maxim
Flail II -> Morning Star
Crossbow -> Harpoon
Bombardier -> Tornado
Belial -> Cyclops
Keep an eye open for the MI-3 Herring subspace bomb as well, I think that makes an appearence in the trailer.
That might have been the subspace bomb from ssm.tbl that was dropped altogether for the final game.
-
Most of the missiles that got renamed still retain their original names for the model files. Belial and Crossbow specifically are the POF file names for the Cyclops and Harpoon missiles, respectively.
-
In the option screen for recolouring your HUD, I believe the primary weapon is the Sidearm.

There were a bunch of names changed from the FS2 Beta that I tested and the final game. Things came quite a long way actually. It was a very impressive buildup to the game. The thing that I was always laughing about was the corporation names for all of the ships...they were all cleverly named Volition employees :) Till they came up with the names later. Infact if you watch the Colossus cinematic you'll still see some of the names made it into that.
Oh and the mainhall theme...that was different too.

Herring... red herring... oh nevermind ;)

I'm surprised nobody got it...I was waiting for someone to call you on it :)
"You must cut down the tallest tree in the forest...WITH....a herring!!! <music>"

*squanders of to watch the movie again*
;)
*searches for the shrubbery scene*

Golden, Golden! Monthy Python.. they are the best.
"We are the knights that sayyy... NE!"

"We are the knights that saaaaay. NI!"
you got it wrong :p

I think it might've been named Herring after the Skipper missile in the Wing Commander universe, which could phase in and out of normal space like SSM torpedoes.

Why has nobody ever made an unbelievably cool torpedo like this yet?
-
They have, the table for making one was in the old Wiki, but isn't in the new one.
-
There's one for the Quarantine MOD, i think. Kazan also made a badass gravity bomb. :D

You tested FS2? ...wow... What did the mainhall used to be?

I think it's been made possible (the proper skipper, i.e. launch-jump-arrive-hit rather than targeting laser-arrive-hit) with the SCP. But I don't know how you'd actually make it......
The SSM IMO isn't used much because it's not only still rather obscure, but it has this nasty problem of being a nearly endless supply of bombs (with the TL at least; I think TAG-C has been edited in the code so as to act in the same way as the TL, making it more feasible).

There's a gravity bomb? :eek2:
Oh, can you post a link for this? Please? ;7

It's explained here (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Weapons.tbl#.24Local_SSM:) in the wiki.

That's easy. A weapon with a large radius and a negative mass should draw everything in its blast towards it, IIRC.
-
Does that include the Sathanas, cause i really been waiting for a bear baiting trap for a while.. ;7
-
Ooh, gravitic mines... :drevil:

Yup, I toyed with those back in the FS1 days. Not much practical use though unless you could maintain a sustained negative blast. (tons of small spawn explosions in the same spot with the same negative mass)
-
Gravity bombs are quite fun to use. just be sure to run like hell once you fire one off. ;)

Hmm. Every-time with explosion-effect?

there was a gravity bomb mod for FS2 i played many years ago.
i made a sucessful ractor beam once, but it was useless, because it pulled the ship toward you and crashed into you and hurt you.
