Post by: Neilsouth on January 10, 2006, 06:48:39 am
Wow cant believe i never got this game, its so much more than what X3 reunion shouldve been
easy to learn tutorial, i watched the cutscene and i was really interested i wanted to keep watching
usually i just hit SKIP x3 reunion has a real crap story.

You can trade, fight ive even seen some big battles going on right in front of me it kinda reminds me
of freespace 2 but more free form.

So far so good, and its an oldy too i got it for a fiver from ebay.

My question is , to the people that have played it what should i get? is there any texture upgrades
or mods? even though it looks and sounds damn good even now

Start with the normal campaign, play it through. Next time your time to explore the Badlands, as there are many subquests, better weapons and more loot waiting for adventurer. Trust to your laterals, rely on the Gatling cannons, and sworn by the Advanced PatCom... and ditch the crappy turret fighters :ick:.

Start from this (http://www.i-war2.com/) pages downloads section. And get the patch F146

And after you have fed up the normal campaign check Torn Stars (http://www.torn-stars.com/)...

And then sort of a hint (some one might consider it to be a cheat) that i think most of the gamers already know. I use it only as a desperate measure to gather cargo when i just have to get the fourth Gatling Cannon:
Spoiler:
When megafreighters start start to appear in convoys of two or three try following. Shoot megafreighters that are just coming from the L-Points with LDSI weapon. But timing is critical. You should shoot at the lead megafreighter so that the LDSI missile hits and robs all inertia from it when there is just enough space for another megafreighter to appear between the L-Point and the first freighter

-> major collision and loads of megafreighter containers released. Then just blast the released megafreighter containers to get the real cargo container to view. And take the loot.

Bit of training and you can collect piles of... em.. um... well mostly 'Frozen Sewage' and 'Raw Sewage', but there are some real goodies there too

I should probably load it up again just to see what it looks like on my current computer. :p

Oh, wait, crap. I can't connect my joystick to anything. It's a sound card port type joystick, and the Creative Labs X-Fi did away with those ports. :p

I've had the IW2 for quite some time, unfortunately my joystick is plastic-crap, leaving me a very hard time to actually play the game to its full extent...

Two of the reasons why i have a HOTAS (Saitek X45) on my table were the IWar and the IWar 2. Controlling laterals, rotation, heading, main thrusters and other little things without reaching for the keyboard...

HOTAS stick is really a not needed any way in FS style arcadish game but in fast paced 'Newtonian system' it really shows its value.

Yeah... I can't keep from laughing when I hear 'Khaak' in X2.

"It's the Khaak! Oh noes they're so Alpha Male, Supreme Commander-esque!"

IW2 though is very fun. A bit cliche'd in the plot at times and I don't like the change to 'all forward guns' when IW1 tried to give ships more of a '3d offensive capacity.' However, it's still fun.

What I wish they'd do is an updated IW1 with a tweaked, streamlined, interface and updated graphics.

Heh, I-War2 is far better than X3 imho.

X3 has it's moments, and lovely graphics, if your card can handle it, but far far too many AI issues at the moment :(

The only option I desperatly feel the need of is padlock view - ever since I started to play Lock-On and serious simulators my idea of situational awerness has drastically changed - and so did my combat manuevers.

If I-War 2 had it, it would be perfect.

Anyway anyone had luck with running I-War I on WinXP? If yes, then how, and what version (Raw, Deluxe ect.)?
