since some missions/campaing do not come with Voice acting i would prefer to hear a robot than read the text everytime which is
highly disturbing
now, in the "speech" tab of the launcher it will recodnze the microsoft engine`s voices
my questions are this:
1) can i see other TTS engines ? (i installed IBM ViaVoice but i dont see it)
2) what voices CAN i add ? (a name of a product could be useful) to the MS speech engine (except the defualt one - sam, mike, marry)

No idea why you can't see ViaVoice but AT&T's Natural Voices (http://www.naturalvoices.att.com/) sounds quite nice. Only problem was that it used a fair bit of CPU power so the voice was very stuttering for me. Maybe with a dual CPU rig I could split the two tasks.

Are these other voices better than the default Microsoft ones? I would rather just read the text than listen to those voices, which are great for laughs but not much else. :p Imagine if instead of Snipes it was MS Sam that said "DIVE! DIVE! DIVE! HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!" in his weird way. :D

MS Sam is the worst ever
it sounds very robotic
but MS mike is a bit better
i heard the demos for AT&T and they sound very good , almost like a real person

They are very good. But they are big (One CD for each voice) and therefore slow).

Bump ahoy.
I happened to find an interesting package/program/thingy from Microsoft's maze of a home page. In addition to it's intended purpose (Microsoft Reader TTS stuff) installs two new voices, LH Michael and LH Michelle, that can be used for example in FS2_Open.
The page is http://www.microsoft.com/reader/developers/downloads/tts.asp (http://www.microsoft.com/reader/developers/downloads/tts.asp).
I think they are at least a little (though not much...) better than default Mike, Mary and (heaven forbid) Sam... and at least they are free to DL and install.

Download page says that you need to have Microsoft Reader 2.0. Any idea as to where one can grab that?

From Microsoft of course...http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/0/9/d099ad62-41d1-4e92-9935-67955a437460/MSReaderSetupUSA.exe
