Mr. Fury saw this and took a screenshot (attached). I've never seen anything like it before, and I have no clue why it's appearing on HLP. I HEAVILY doubt it's Google's fault. Anyway, if that - or anything similar - happens to ANY of you, get a copy of the source of that page and PM it to me.
Thanks.

I'm guessing it's an image-cache thing. **** like this usually is.
Like when I was getting ads instead of buttons.
-
I'd tend to agree with you, but there's nothing that's part of HLP that should be centered like that at the top of the page.
EDIT: Oh, wait.... the webring?? ...Styxx!!
-
Excuses, excuses - you're just trying to make the ads more visible, you cheeky wee scamp.
-
The admins are making millions of dollars from Ebay ads.
-
Oh...so that's the bank account I've been stealing from.
It was only supposed to take a fraction of a penny!
-
Oh God, I can see it now: "Giant Mutated Web Advertisements launch offensive against HLP! an0n commands this horrifying massacre! Staff and populace flee in terror!"
It'll be worse than the April's Fools stunt. :shaking: :shaking:
-
"Oh my god, it's the Shoot-the-monkey!"
"OPEN FIRE!!!!"
It'll be just like the Final Fantasy Movie, except with popup ads instead of Phantoms. "Oh ****! My soul!"
-
How much does HLP cost per month anyway?
-
30 GBP, plus a few yearly charges that amount to around $20-odd USD per year.
-
Thirty quid a month? ****ing hell.
-

Though you could save half the latter if you itched the Alexa ad/spyware thing on the bottom........

Dude? Go see a doctor. Now. First of all, the Alexa ad thing never cost me a thing. And second, it's been gone for days now. :wtf:

I need teh sleep.s.

Do the ads generate profit just by being displayed, or do we need to click them for it to do any good? I already make it a point to disable adblock when I visit the forums, but I haven't seen anything clickworthy yet.

Yeah, it would be worse then the April Fools Stunt..

You have to click them.
-
Dunno if this is of any use, but on some other ad-funded fora (eg. Filesoup), they have a thread dedicated to ads. So you click a random ad and see what weird stuff it takes you to, and then you post about it. Yes, it basically amounts to spam, but you'll get a lot more clicks if you give people (especially certain people) a reason to post. Just a thought...
-
Well, for now the repositioning of the ads definitely generated a bump in revenue (at least, I hope it's a bump and not just a spike). We'll see what the situation looks like in a week or so.
Oh, and for whoever's interested... designating the post body to be the primary source that Google should look at to get context-sensitive ads is said to take up to 2 weeks to come into effect. So if the ads are still ridiculously off-topic in another week and a half or so, lemme know. ;)
-
Every time I see this topic I keep misreading it as "Giant Mustard Ads on HLP".
-
Was "Giant Mutated Ants" for me first time I skimmed the forum after the topic was posted... yay for runaway imaginations hijacking your mind :)
-
EDIT: Oh, wait.... the webring?? ...Styxx!!
What?
-
I dunno, it's just that the webring is the only thing up top that's centered. Could there be some security exploit or something perhaps?
-
Er, nope. It's just simple PHP code, if someone could hack that file they could have done what they wanted with the whole rest of the website and forums.
-
Got another one.

Most intresting parts highlighted.
1. This thing is probably supposed to replace a webpage, not get added into one.
2. It is remote code.
3. It makes it look like the link will lead to eBay, but it'll go to another domain.
4. Both those domains lead to one page: http://www.cj.com/qksrv.jsp, the privacy policy of some add company. The WHOIS's also look similar.
5. The rest of the source ought to give the admins some idea what to look for and where, if this is done by HLP, and not by the host. It seems rather unlikely this is not within the SMF code, though, since there is definently SMF stuff above it.

'cept that he's dead...

But, how about a zombie Johnnie Cochran?
Oh, and I bet the admins are conspiring against us for their own profit. :nervous:
You've heard nothing!!!
