Title: new build that is stable in coop multiplayer?
Post by: Loki_GdD on January 15, 2006, 04:11:08 am
1. Is there a newer build that is as stable as the official 3.6.7 in multiplayer but has the new optimizations?
I tried the 20051208-build which gives me a much higher average framerate but it crashes a lot in coop multiplayer.
I have the official 3.6.7 vp-files installed.

2. On the SCP-Site I read it's recommended to use direct3d with the 3.6.7-build. Is that true? I have a redeon mobility 9600 with 64MB and read that shine maps don't work in direct3d with radeon cards. What features don't work in OpenGL with the 3.6.7-build?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Envmaps don't work yet in any build under OGL, but OGL is generally better on everything else.

The 12/29/05 build was reasonably ok during multi over a LAN, with random crahses only every 3 missions or so. I was using the beta 368 VP's.

Actually I don't want to use the beta VP's yet and I think that sombody said in the recent builds thread that the later december builds only work with the new beta VP's.
I also remember somebody saying that with the 3.6.7 build -glow doesn't work in OpenGL. And I'd love to use the -img2dds switch as my card doesn't have that much memory.

I think I can live without envmaps

One crash every 3 missions isn't what I would call stable.
With the 3.6.7 build we played the first 10 missions of the campaign in a row and it never crashed.

Thanks anyways kasperl.
Could anybody else recommend another build or answer my questions??

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't (unless the name of a flag was changed or something. The 3rd 3.6.7 patch of mv_models.vp won't work but then it won't with 3.6.7 either so that's no great problem :) Trying a new build is about as simple as selecting it in the launcher and clicking run so why not simply try it?

-glow works just fine :)

Everything up to the 3rd 3.6.7 patch will work in any build from 3.6.7 on, while the current 3.6.8 VPs will only work in builds 12/29 and after.

Thanks a lot guys!

The only thing I'd still love to know is which knew build is really stable in coop multiplayer?

If you want a stable build you have to work for it.

Tell us when something crashes. Give us Mantis reports. Run a debug build if you know something will crash FS2 and tell us what it said.

The reason why multiplayer is so unstable is that no one reports the failures it has.
