Whenever I try to load a mod with the FS2 open launcehr 5.3 i get the error message
"Mod directory name can't contain space"
I've tried sevral folders and it affects all of them.
The Mod Directory is: Freespace2\mods\FreespaceArt
it contains the vp files and all the Millways files in the respective \data\subfolder (I hope)
-
Let me guess. C:\Program Files\Freespace2\mods\FreespaceArt
^^^
Either reinstall in another folder or just simply move it somewhere without a space in it and hope that it doesn't screw up the freespace registry entries (it really shouldn't but I won't give you your money back if it does :p)
-
It won't. :)

Except for the uninstaller, all the registry things for Freespace 2 are entirely non-absolute-location specific.
If you just move Freespace 2 the only effect will that if you want to completely uninstall it, you'll have to remove the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Volition\Freespace 2" registry key manually. Or, move it back to "Program Files" and then uninstall it.

I figured that was pretty much the case but I wasn't going to say so without proof :)

Yeah, at this point it's pretty much proven. The last three or four times that I've "installed" Freespace 2, I've done it by just copying over the retail VPs, mediaVPs, FS2_open EXEs + FS2_Open Launcher, run the Launcher, and started FS2_Open. So it's entirely possible to run FS2_Open without the installer.
Oh, and in my most recent install, I had the same problem and had to rename from "Freespace 2" to "Freespace2" after I'd run fs2_open a few times, I haven't seen any problems at all.

I've done the top one myself. That said I remember that there was a whole thing with the reg entries for the HotU build.
Never understood what they did but people have reported them curing problems before.
