Title: problem installing fs2 in xp
Post by: direcow on January 16, 2006, 09:15:12 pm
I'm having a problem installing the retail version of Freespace 2 (the Interplay 20th Anniversary edition) on my computer.  My specs are:  windows xp mediacenter, pentium 4 3.2ghz, 1 gig RAM.  When I insert disc 1, the drive revs up and I get a message telling me the installwizard is starting, but the installation never begins.  I did try using xp's compatability mode while running the cd, but the same problem occured.  Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

That's an odd one. I've head of people getting a "system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications error". During installation but never this one.

Have you tried something simple like a reboot?

Problem solved.  For some reason it was taking my drive a long time to get the data off the discs.  While I had the startup disc in the drive and was fiddiling around with trying to get it to run in compatability mode, the install program started, so I got it all taken care of.  I have no idea why it took so long for the program to run, but the game seems to be running fine (at least the first training mission).  Thanks.
