Title: Problem running FS2
Post by: TomForestGoblin on January 21, 2006, 04:48:09 pm
Hi, I just got a new desktop, and i thought now would be a perfect opportunity to play FS2 again. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I haven't yet got past the main deck, as it's only a few seconds before the game freezes, but only temporarily. After 20 seconds or so it unfreezes, and then after 2 or 3 seconds of working, freezes again. I've updated to version 1.2, which hasn't helped. Does anyone have any ideas? Specs here:
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.1Ghz
RAM - 1GB
Video Card - ATI Radeon X800GT
OS - Windows XP SP2
Thanks in advance...

It's a known issue with dual cores. When you open the game, set its processor affinity in the windows task manager so it only uses one core to fix the problem. Are you using retail FS2 or FS2 open?

If it's FSO you're using just do what CP says or just go to the recent builds forum and upgrade the build.

I have a laptop with an AMD Athlon 64 mobile with a Radeon 9600 video card and Im having the same problem.  Im not sure if this means I have a dual core or not.
I cant seem to find the "set affinity" function in the task manager.  Im slightly illiterate when it comes to advanced computer use... so is there any other way to do this?  The only options I get when I right click on the process I want to modify is "End process" "End Process tree" "Debug" and "set priority"

Thanks

That seems to prove you don't have a dual core so your problem lies elsewhere.

If you're running with the media VP files try removing mv_adveffects.vp. It could very easily be the cause of your problems.
