Found this interesting little diddy earlier today, http://eawnexus.gamingsource.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=156&st=0&#entry959 a mod for the new EaW demo, and it adds (or unlocks depending how you look at it) quite a bit in the mod. For starters, the ability to play as the Empire in the Galactic Conquest mode, a ton of ships and units unlocked, and a majority of the planets as well.

Nice find!

Version 2.0, which I couldn't see linked to on that thread.

Whats the system requirements for that game?
-
I heard space combat in that game was 2D/on a plane and not truly 3D a la Homeworld. And that is just retarded.
-
From playing the demo, space combat doesn't really seem like anything special, but the game is better than previous star wars strategy games. The subsystems on capital ships are quite interesting in space combat. It's a bit disappointing that bombers but not capital ships can bombard planets though.
Requirements according to the demo readme:
CPU
Required: Intel Pentium 1.0 GHz or AMD Athlon 1.0 GHz
Recommended: Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 2.0 GHz
Memory
Required: 256 MB RAM
Recommended: 512 MB RAM
Graphics Card
Required: 32 MB 3D Graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L) Capability
Recommended: 64 MB 3D Graphics card with Hardware Vertex and Pixel Shader (VS/PS) Capability

you are truely spoiled with homeworld type physics.. Full 3d doesn't a game make.
this is an empire building (or republic, whichever you want ;) ) game, you have a planetary portion as well as the spaceborne, and the way it played for me, it had the same feel as anything star-wars, (that is cool).
that said, the mod is cool, and it's just funny to see a full sized ISD(a hero unit at that) take on onna my stations with only a garrison of X-wings, and Y-wings, and lose  Gotta love bombers.
-
Heh, tell me about it.
One time the Empire hit me with two ISD's, an Acclimator, two of those patrol friggates (their name escapes me) and an Interdictor and all I had were two Corellian Corvettes, a Marauder, and a Corellian Gunship along with my station and its garrison and I somehow won! (well, the planet did have an Ion cannon, but still by all rights I should have been killed)
Oh yeah and one other thing, did anyone else watch the video that plays on the main menu. The way the camera foucsed in on fighters and ships reminded me of how they do that during the space battles in BSG and how they did them in FireFly... Anyone else notice it?

indeed, like it or not, many large space battles use the battle of endor as a benchmark

Excellent find, Dough!

While you may not buy it for the core gameplay, there are at least a doezn excellent mods/TCs in development that will make this game very worthwhile. We've got a Clonewars mod, a Sith-War mod (being worked on by the same bloke who made the 'Warlords' mod for HW2), a Halo mod, a Starship Troopers mod, a massive exansion mod that'll open up every SW Time-period (from pre-CW to post-NJO from what i've read), and more. I wonder what a Freespace mod would look like... *ponders*

it'd haveta be set during the T-V war, as the shivans never laid any ground troops.
and that pre-clonewars mod i think there's one being made in the KOTOR time period, too.
