So I decided to try and do a turret that actually had some aesthetic appeal and here's the result. I'm generally happy with it although I still don't know how to texture anything so I had to go with a pre-packaged texture.
Crits?

What are the glowy things supposed to be?
Looks cool though, heavy duty.

It's an energy cannon... and to be honest it's an excuse to try out the video post functions in Max. I guess I was trying for something that didn't look quite like the average ballistic cannon.

Looks nice. Like you said, it's a nice break from the typical ballistic cannon.

I like. Very.

It kinda remionds me of the heavy cruiser turrets in homeworld.
-
It kinda reminds me of a cargo container :D

I think it'd look better without those little blocks at the end of the firing 'barrels'. It looks like a low-poly tweak to a high-poly model. :)

I like it. It'd make a fun game weapon too, with the glowy things powering up before the weapon fires.
And you could make a big exploshion when you shoot them enough. :p

Looks good!
My only two criticisms are these: I don't see an up/down aiming ability, and the barrels look kinda boring. Theres all that wonderful texture and stuff on the side of the turret, maybe some gizmos around the barrels would look cool too?
