Probably one of my favourite moments in FS2 is the whole "I can live with being a pawn if the game makes sense" speech.

That was a classic line.

nah I like boschs line before that "It will be wise toquestion your leaders" or something like that

"These detonators were a piece of junk. I even followed the directions."
"Whatever those things are, the Shivans got less of them now."

Those lines gave made me a chuckle.

I've got a few moments for this (in no particular order).

1) The Repulse ramming the Colossus.
2) The Iceni diving underneath the temporarily-disarmed Colossus to reach the Knossos.
3) The appearance of the Ravana in the nebula.
4) The appearance of the second Sathanas.
5) Bearbaiting.
6) Showdown between the Belisarius and the Psamtik.
7) The destruction of the Colossus.

The first time I played, when the Psamtik wasted the Belisaurius. Had no clue about the existance of beam cannon in the game until that point (got my copy off HOTU, assumed FS1-ish weaponry :P). So it was a "Oh crud, what the hell was that!" moment.

Snipes got most of the good lines. Somebody's already given the detonaters one, so I'll throw out another. "What, do I look Shivan to you?"

"A demon class cruiser has indeed arrived.  Command is well informed"
"Then they must know this mission is suicide!"
Title: Re: the anything but scary moments

Pretty much everything that Snipes says...

And when youre scanning the Stahanas in the nebula, Command just casually says "While you're out there, why don't you take on the Juggernaut by yourself". I was like :sigh: and started hammering those turrets...

And the first time I was playing FS1 and the datagathering mission comes up, the one where you're supposed to scan the containers. Then they just start blowing up, "Nononono I havent scanned them yet!!1"

The vasudan who reckoned the meson failed to nail the knossos because it ws of "terran design" always gets a grin.

I thought the moment when the Carthage & Dashor arrived in Into the Lions Den (?) was a classic FS2 moment, especially when the beams starting getting thrown about.

Uhm... Did command say that?
Hell... I need the english Version of FS1 and 2 ;)
In german, command only says that I can destroy as many turrets as I can and that this is only optional so I shouldn't not take any unnecessary risk...

A few lines in german FS1/2 weren't translated correctly or weren't accentuated(?) right...

Yeah, that's the line, but it was typical of Command's insanity so he paraphrased it as "go blow it up by yourself".

I'll give a mention to any one of Blaise Russel's campaign finales. STL, S:AH, and FoEP all have excellent endings that get as close to being BoE but still being enjoyable and replayable. :)

My favorite is

"Why don't command just shut down that protal, we have no business being out here.

"yeah, I never signed on for hunting Shivans"

And the best quote in the game comes next.

"Don't fool yourself pilot, we're the ones being hunted."

McArthy, you are ordered to power down your vessel and surrender!

I ANSWER TO A HIGHER AUTHORITY!
Don't you know what happened at Ross 128?  The Vasudans are the LEAST of our worries...

Dang! Beat me to it:D

Allright...escorting the Iceni.. and then after you managed to kill off all the vasudans and escort both ships trough the asteroid field, Bosch get's all psycho and decides to ram the Hinton at subspace entering speed.

Or the classic:

"How you're holding up Beta?"
"We're hurting Sir. They sent every damn bomber in the shivan armada!"
"What kind of bombers?"
"Seraphim. Nephilim... you name it!"

Yeah. That's a great line. I mentioned it last time there was a classic FS2 quotes thread :)

Loved the Kappa one in "A Game of Tag", he was clearly panicking, begging the command to get out and then command said "Disregard Kappa's communication" or something. Very cool.

The best is probably GTVA's alternate cocky and bleak tone. One minute they were touting "Show them what firepower is about", the next minute it's like Shivans are coming, run. :)

"Avoid the beam and you won't get hit pilot."

Quick question: Do the non-English versions of FS2 come with non-English voice files?  Or does the English voice file play for the German message?  (The latter case would probably get pretty confusing.)

My favorite giggle moment is whenever the vasudan pilots start talking.

Beta 2: "You fight like a vasudan!"
Alpha 1(thinking): "But I didn't just try to kamakazi my ship into the destroyer's main guns like you crazy fools kept doing during the first great war..."

Beta 2: "FORMIDABLE!"
Alpha 1(thinking): "They get this excited when I blow up a cargo container?"

Beta 2: "Avenge me!"
Alpha 1(thinking): "You just flew a serapis into the Sathanas's main flak cannons. I think you earned that one you kamakazi psycho."

'I recommend you follow the beacons sir....'

It's more the tone of voice when you're blundering around in the nebula looking for Snipes ;)

"Avoid the beam and you won't get hit pilot."

Which is real easy like..since those thing only travel at quasi light speed....

"Now go read a book."

*wing man gets shot*

"sheilds failing, systems going down: COMMAND GET ME OUT OF HERE"
*explodes*

and

I think its hilarious when the wing man dude goes "NAAAAAOOOOOOOOO *CHSsssshshhhh*" *explodes*

Its cool when the guy goes "Cover ME, COVER ME!!!"

Man alpha 2 had awsome voice acting skillz. And I swear to god they used Admiral Wolf's voice again somwhere in freespace 2, possibly i wing man...

I know a few people who would have liked it if it was Macross :D
Alltough if that were true, the shivans would be the ones calling for help.

"And when the destroyers came at last, what did the Ancients think as they sifted the cremation of dust and bones, staring into the mute remains for a key... Some.. solution to thier plight.  What if there had been countless races, stretching back into infinity?  And like the nine cities of Troy, each civilization had been built on the rubble the one that came before..  Each.. annhiliated by the Shivans..."  The Ancients died 8000 years ago.  As humanity emerged from it's neolithic infancy, they believe thier voyage across the sea of stars woke a dragon that slept beneath the waves, that the Shivans were birthed from the flux of subspace, and thier destruction was the revenge of an angry cosmos."

My favorite monologue, though I love all of Bosch Monologue sequences.

"We have learned that the destroyers who darkened our skies are not invulnerable.  They can be harmed."

--Yeah, woopdedoo.  I've got 672 shivan kill.

"But we have no way to deliver the hurt.  We have the knowledge but not the means."

--Knowing is half the battle.  The other is bombers.  Earth is still doomed.

"So this shall be our legacy.  In subspace, they cannot use their shields..."

Yeah, great, great.  Too bad they turn on when they exit sub..

"and into subspace, they can be tracked."

Well, since my old webspace is no more, so are the files gone

You can find some stuff in my siggy and the rest (most) is on Hades Combine (Lancer = Fury)

Some stuff isn't for D/L as I simply didn't put it (like the Macross.)
Which remonds me, I have to put all that stuff up some time soon :D

The nav beacons all kinda arc out from where you start, so just try to fly in a straight line from say nav 1 to nav 2 and keep going and nav 3 should appear as a blip on the radar. Hard to do with shivans attacking you, but that makes it fun.
