I've played X-Wing Alliance for many years and enjoyed that game immensely. Just recently though I heard about a game that was supposedly better than X-Wing, namely freespace 2. After reading that it had gone "free" (so to speak) I tried to find a copy. Which is why I'm here.
Zman was kind enough to allow me to access his FTP site and encouraged me to sign on.
I'll try to contribute a bit, and possibly harass you all with questions on this game since I've never played it before. :)

:welcome: :)
-
Once you've downloaded, this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/installingfs2.html#iso) should talk you through installing the game and also how to upgrade it with FSO and make it even better :)

Feel free to do either. :)

Gunnery control...target Unicks...OPEN FIRE!
:welcome:
Welcome to the HLPBB! :D Please enjoy your stay, however remember to listen to the admins and other community members, unless you have a strong urge to be spaced. In the event of an emergency, flamethrowers are located under your seat, and in the very likely event that they are filled with water, please use the shotguns in the weapons lockers. Do not crawl through ventilation spaces, and if you do, give the big red spider thing your lunch; he might leave you alone. Thank you, and enjoy your stay! :D

What? Shotguns? What happened to the Plasma rifles?
/me suspects the Hyperintelligent shade of Blue of running a weapons ring.
[/bw]
-
Someone's been reading the Hitchiker's Guide a little too much. :p

Actually, if you see a spider, start getting worried and call for a can of Raid. Now, if you see our resident Shivan Carl, on the other hand, a money or lunch bribe tends to shoo him right away. If it doesn't, pray for a quick death.
-
harass you
Thats my job! :(

No, he's been in a huff since he... er, it, was refracted into the wrong kind of prism. Not a fan of cubic zircona, apparently.
It was more of a weapons triangle, really.
-
Of course old Blue is an arms dealer. How else do you think it got access to the weapons lockers?

Lol...don't you remember when the shotguns were switched out? :P
-
This has been the most peculiar thread in the history of forums...
-
I?ve seen worse...
b.t.w. - Hwo the hell uses shotguns against shivans? Gimme somethnig with more firepower...like a hand-held nuclear missile launcher :D
-
In 'Hall Fight' didnt one of the Shivans get killed by a machine gun?
-
This, like most things FS2 related, is the subject of much debate ;)
-
Let's call it a futuristic, much more efficient and precise version of a machine gun. Also, you notice they shoot the Shivan in its Cluster-Eye.
-
I say the grenade did it.
-
And I say it wasn't a grenade, but the shivan exploding.

You can't know that, that shot may have come from the grassy knoll.
-
And I say it wasn't a grenade, but the shivan exploding.
Large amounts of plasma and shrapnel flying all over the place anyone? :D
hehe, welcome to the HLPBB, Unicks. Strap yourself in, because there are no exits, and you are not getting out for a long time, because the Exit portal was sabotaged.

I guess Hyperintelligent Blue got access to Meson Bombs in addition to the basic weapons locker....
-
Yes, that was Blue.
:nervous:
-
just wanted to say hi aswell, tried freespace many years ago and yesterday I was curious if it was still alive and got quite amazed by how people work together on this.
Great job!
-
I still haven't figured out that Large Green Welcome sign, but let me be the first to say:
Welcome to the HLPBB!
Yes I was quite impressed at the activity level here as well, I found this site after hearing about the Inferno campaign on gameFAQs....
-
:welcome:
-
:sighs: yeah that green welcome sign
-
In case you still don't know, it's ':welcome', with another colon after 'welcome', for beam-frying noobs like myself (actually, when do I shed my noob status?)
-
I'd say you get rid of n00b status when you stop being ignorant, and start knowing what you're talking about.
Me, I'd like to stop being a n00b as fast as possible, which is why i ask so many questions. Questions are the best way to gain knowledge.
-
Actually you guys are newbies. The term n00b is generally used for someone who appears to have no idea of the concepts of netiquette. As a result they act like they are new even after many years of being online.
-
So you're saying that 'noob' refers to whether a person exhibits netiquette, right?
So...you're saying that we aren't exhibiting netiquette.
So...what? What did I do that lacked netiquette?
Any advice on understanding my lamentable non-netiquettish condition welcome.
-
No, nobody's saying that. "You" in Dark Hunter's post was more of a substitute for "one"--as in:
I'd say one gets rid of n00b status when one stops being ignorant, and start knowing what one's talking about.
So, no, you're not a n00b. If you were a n00b, you would have been flamed by now. :p
-
Netiquitte is a funny word!
-
I'm not sure where the line appears really for n00bs to regulars, it's something to do with the reputation you build to a certain degree, there are certain things that can doom you to an eternity of noobishness, whereas Scooby Doo, for example, appears to have jumped right over the entire noob stage and become an accepted member, and his output and quality of work earned him it, so I think it's, in part, to do with your contributions to the Forum in general :)
-
May I just add that I hate the words 'n00b', 'noob', newbie, and all viariants thereof. To me, the only appropriate labels are 'good guy' and 'wank'.
-
Of course, this makes many of us 0ldbie's ;)
-
I have no problem with people using the term newbie as like I said it mearly means someone new to the forums and as such can be used to say things like "We should point newbies towards the wiki and the download thread"
As long as people aren't judging people depending on how long they've been on the forums then it's okay.

Post count, then :D
Usually you can tell newbies by their behaviour. It's pretty easy to tell whether this is the first time the guy's posting on an internet forum etc.
-
Glad I could help you with that Unicks....
Feel free to Ask questions at any time, but try to keep them into one thread, not 5 different ones. I see that happen pritty often and the kid is a complete noob...
