damn that was a cheasy thread id
anyway weve been having really awesome games for the past 3 or 4 days and we want more players. ulala has been so kind as to keep a d2 server going for the community to enjoy. we hope to see you around there.
to play you need :
d2x-xl which can be dled (as well as any custom missions we may be flying) here (http://www.descent2.de/)
descent 2 data files can be found here (http://www.game-warden.com/nukemod-cos/d2files.zip)
extract both in the same directory and run the exe (i think)
in the multiplayer menu select join udp/ip netgame
the ip is 128.193.246.12 and port is 28342
hit enter and there should be a game there.
if noones playing its because were all asleep or otherwise occupied.
admins, hilight!
i got an idea
hlp vs dbb
me either, keep ckecking in, im sure wel see some more in the near future. They would eat you for breakfast. The guys at the DBB have never stopped playing Descent. ;)

I think we had four people at one point today but the server apparently couldn't handle that and was going crazy until one person left. Which is a pity, as I was looking forward to a CTF or Entropy 2v2 game. Maybe we can try having someone else host next time.
I'm a moron for asking this at this point, but which of you were Nick and Default? I never managed to guess while we were playing. :p
I'm a moron for asking this at this point, but which of you were Nick and Default? I never managed to guess while we were playing. :pYeah, I was Nick. It was some great action last night when we had 3 active players. Hope to get some more action later today. :D
should the main server fail, use the tracker. that way we can keep games going even if the servers on the fritz.
Yeah, I was Nick. It was some great action last night when we had 3 active players. Hope to get some more action later today. :D
It seems to all stem from the countdown not beginning for some peole when the reactor blows.
Oh yeah, I wish to thank the folks who set this up, Ulala for running the game so much so that others can enjoy playing it, and the others for playing so that I could finally get to play with real Descent fans. Thank you! :)And who thanks me for the countless hours of work I have sunk into this project :doubt: ... bad world ... :p
do those donation boxes work, i should get me one :DTry mine, and I'll tell ya. ;)

Also, the Descent-ish linky thingy in your sig seems to be outdated or something. I get 404'd.
I'll be checking in at random times tonight, but not too late as I have classes tomorrow. (Sucks to have class on a national holiday)
The server has been updated. No reactor. Kill limit is 30. Hopefully maps will cycle without trouble (and without me being present). Does alt-w have a function in D2 multiplayer? It didn't do anything for me. Hope to shoot you guys up soon! :)
CP56,
if you encounter any situations where D2X-XL crashes, please try to make a save file short before that situation occurs and send it to me together with an explanation how to provoke the crash.
Btw, v1.5.125 available with a lot of D1 related fixes and a very nice new feature (press Alt+W in-game ).
I can add new resolutions to D2X-XL. Just tell me which.
I've seen these guys and I'm a D2 lover by heart. But I can't get there software working on any of my comps. Every time I start up d2x-xl, it opens loads up a black screen, then quits. No debug information is given. I would really love to join you guys, but I have no idea how I should go about fixing this problem. Could I get some help please?
BTW, I was wondering how many people would be interested in trying out entropy sometime... perhaps on the weekend. What if everyone who's interested post what times they will be able to play and we schedule a game or games? (Anytime after 4pm Thursday and from 11am- 3am Friday through Sunday is good for me, time zone is Eastern US)
Server isn't realy working, keeps giving me missing packets...I'm getting the same problem. Try my game (ip=192.168.0.101, port 28342) I'll try to keep it going from now until around 1am.
Did you download the descent 2 data files?
Where did you put them?

hey ulala, did you ever upgrade to the new version of d2xxl?
QuoteI'm getting the same problem. Try my game (ip=192.168.0.101, port 28342) I'll try to keep it going from now until around 1am.
I checked a few times earlier but couldn't see your game. Was it on the tracker? I don't think that 192 thing is your actual IP address though; it's probably the computer's local address assigned by the router or modem.
We're getting some weird issues with the packets I think? And we had two Nicks in the game, but one of them was not Nick...
Hmm... strange. I set it up the same way that I had for the last time we played, which worked out ok. And I'm not sure what the ip would be otherwise. It displays it at the top of the screen when I host the game, which again worked last time.
Maybe we ought to try it again to see? (Or if someone knows what I might have done wrong, please let me know.)
Also, if I use the tracker, do I simply enter in the port 28342, start the game, and others will find it with the tracker, or do I need to do something else? I read the info on the Descent Site but I'm still confused.
Where is the server? I saw it a minute ago with four people and was about to join but it seems to have disappeared.
Yeah, but this time I was one of the nicks...
And now there's a nick player profile when i start the gmae
Trackers eem to be back up, h've hosted a game, someone try joining.
Standard Descent 2 CTF is no full blown CTF. It has several severe flaws. If you want to play 'real' CTF, have the game host select 'enhanced CTF' in the multiplayer options menu, and make sure to use an enhanced CTF enabled map. My map 'With Flying Colors' is one, and I believe it might play really great in CTF mode. Give it a shot.
How did they play, especially in regard of the game mode they were made for?
Too small/large, complicated/simple, whatever?
Please let me know. :)
CP5670,
if the host crashes, another client becomes the host.
Good to know. I very much crashed, lol.. I moved into the capture zone and everything just stopped. Hard. Had to ctrl+alt+del my way outta there, but everything was mega slow, so I gave up and rebooted.
What is "Hydrolysis"? Tried joining, didn't work. Auto DL feature wasn't working either.
watsisname,
Speed! or Glass House. Check my D2 site, multiplayer level section for screenshots, you might tell which it was when seeing them. I'd like to know which one it was.
Is your game still up? I couldn't find it.Curious, I have had it up and running since my last post. Could you try using the other ip address (192.168.0.101)? I'm still unsure of which ip the game is actually using. (It says the second ip for host address when I host a game, but my actual ip adress is the first one). If both ip's fail to show anything, then...
It was the Dogfight map (the one on your site, not the official four-level pack that comes with D2). Firecrack was trying to hit something behind the fan near the omega cannon's enclave, which I'm guessing was a switch. It's pretty easy to hit that switch. Load it up in singleplayer and practise a little. Using that map makes sense with 'fixed powerup spawn points' (gameplay options menu), as then the big missiles will always spawn in that shaft, making it somewhat risky to get them - the price for having the big artillery ... ;)
I have to ask this...have you guys tried Minerva yet? :pDIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!!!!!!!! :hopping:  :mad2: :ick:

Btw, how did you like that map? I think the rooms might be a little large ...
Try Circus Maximus, it might play very well with 4 or more players.
I have to ask this...have you guys tried Minerva yet? :p
Am i the only one who kinda feels as if the BSG guys were playing descent when designing the cylons?
Just out of curiosity, what sort of firewall do you have? I use McAffee. Apparently I can open specific ports (and I tried explicitly opening port 23842 or whatever it was, though I have absolutely no idea if I did it correctly) and it also says that by setting the security settings to "standard" it will allow all UDP communication. Doing this still doesn't fix the problem, so I'm really starting to wonder what's up with it or if the root of the issue lies elsewhere.
How about reporting bugs so I can fix them? :P
If possible, register at www.descentbb.net and post bug reports in the proper thread in the D2X-XL area.
I haven't seen ANY games in the past 5 days or so. I'm wondering if it's just us or if everyone's having this issue now?
One way to check is for some of us to try joining each others games at some predetermined time. There's a chance that we're just not on at the same times, and that at least one of us is still able to host...
...but maybe not. *shrug*
The DBB guys have never stopped playing Descent. They would wipe you away, trust me. They have some insane flying skills. I don't play a lot (rather code), and to me it sometimes looks like magic. Really.i got an idea
hlp vs dbb
We'd be outnumbered and out-gunned.... sounds fun :D count me in if I'm not at school or asleep.
I'm posting this bug report here since DBB won't let me register for some reason. (it keeps saying my username has already been taken, no matter what I try using )
I have been playing through the old D1 Orion Nebula Project level pack through D2X-XL and am running into a few problems. The briefings aren't showing up at all for some reason, even though the txb filename matches up. Also, it seems whenever I fly into a pass-through trigger, the game instantly crashes out. This can be seen in the 5th level of ONP for example, at the point where you get the blue key, but also occurs in some of the other levels.
As for the multiplayer bugs, basically whenever a player tried to join my game, it gave some generic error for him (don't remember the exact wording, but I think it just said a join error has occurred) and didn't get past the server list menu. On the host machine, it looked like the other player had joined, but he wasn't doing anything and after a few seconds he left the game. I don't know if this was an issue with the game or my connection though. It was the standard missing packets error: "Connection Failed: You are missing packets", or something along those lines. I think that this due to the nature of the conection and use of UDP communication though, rather than being a bug in D2X-XL. *shrug*
yeah, please try the mission with D1 3dfx. D2X-XL does handle the special D1 trigger types, but this trigger has no attributes at all when viewing it with a level editor (I tried both DLE-XP and DMB2, in case I had messed up something in DLE-XP that had been working in DMB2). Though it is possible though, I can't quite believe that a trigger put right in front of a blue key access should do nothing.
Concerning your DBB registration: The DBB has changed servers a few times recently, which has caused login problems by users who didn't clear their cookies after such moves. You may want to clear all cookies and access it via http://www.descentbb.net, maybe that helps. If not, I'll ask KoolBear about it (he runs the DBB). He will certainly be able to help you out. :)
OT: Was there ever a patch for D3 that resolved issues it had with some sound cards (like mine)? I loved that game so much.Which exact issues are you referring to? I don't believe I've ever heard of any widespread problems with a specific sound card.
On a side note about D3 bugs, I tried playing the game recently but was running into a strange problem with the render depth setting. If I set the slider to anything above the lowest setting, the game automatically reduces it to the minimum a few seconds into the game. Is there anything that can be done about this?To the best of my knowledge, not really, although I'm not sure what my own copy does. I seem to remember it being a standard bug. It shouldn't really cause any adverse effects in-game. Just keep in mind that you shouldn't expect SCP-level graphical performance. :p
Just say when. :)
[lazy] Also, can someone link me the d2x webste? I don't think I still have the latest version anymore. [/lazy]
IIRC, that one enables a game to run if a player has incomplete packets, right? If that's the case, then I think that should be checked, right?
The IP is 69.138.167.250 with the usual port 28342.
I concur with 22:00 GMT...... why do things like timezones exist... now I won't be playing D2.... :(
If we get 4 people (hopefully Ulala joins us), then we ought to try CTF/Entropy again. :D
I've made over 20 posts today, most of them 1 or 2 lines long.
This 1.5 patch is unofficial, incomplete and unsupported. There are no guarantees for the patch's stability or functionality. The unofficial 1.5 patch is not compatible with version 1.4 nor is it compatible with the Mac or Linux clients. That being said, some players and game servers are using this unofficial beta patch as it does contain some playability fixes. Use at your own risk. That's as much info as I can find ATM
I don't have descent3. :(Then we should definitely get D2-XL to work
Ulala,
highlight the menu options in question and press F1 in D2X-XL.
If you cannot be bothered to even try to read my online manual, don't expect me to write everything down extra for you here again. :hopping:
Not really. To my knowlage we've only had two working sessions, the rest has just been "can we get this to work", and half the time we haven't been able to figure it out. karx however has recently appeared, and I have high hopes that, with his help, we can get this thing going. Optimally they'd be going nearly every weekend.
That means that you don't have the mission 'joust' ... ;)
You and the server could turn on automatic level download to have the server send it you.good idea shoulda done that.
You're welcome. Glad I could help. ;)That means that you don't have the mission 'joust' ... ;)
well tank you captian obvious no chance in hell whould i have ever been able to figure that out :D
you guys really need a better way of doing thisWhy don't you use the tracker?
cause ima idiot :)you guys really need a better way of doing thisWhy don't you use the tracker?
All of the weapons are replaced with shield orbs, is this a bug?
Well, I'll try setting up a Tracker one last time, same old port 28342, for a few hours.
CP,
what linker errors did you get?
A local test with 3 players resulted in the other other players being visible to each participant.
Just make a "rebuild all".
I had a server up recently for 3 or more hours ... I wonder what's wrong there. I will look more into auto-d/l, too.
Talking about Trillian? Why not ask the programmers?
Welcome to HLP. Please keep all appendages within the installation at all times. Flamethrowers are located underneath all seats, however, due to the rising cost of oil, the ID / evolution debate (don't debate me on whether or not there is a debate), :v:, and the meaning of life, the napalm has been replaced with Holy Water. Plasma rifles are located in the weapons locker, but only Admins, :v:, or a hyper-intelligent shade of blue have access to these areas. If you meet a Shivan in the ductwork it is most likely Carl, give him your lunch and back away slowly, odds are good you'll be fine. Recommend reading includes Karajorma's Freespace FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html) for general questions, and The Freespace Wiki (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki) for specific issues and questions.ROTFLOL!
Also, watch out, Holy Water can burn, and the flamethrowers are usually out in the main HLP forum
It's PRISTENE! Nary a smudge upon it's rainbowed surface!
The case has protected it well.
Karx, your a workaholic.Negative on that.
Since Ulala won't be here right away, I guess I'll host. Should I use the tracker or do a direct IP game? I've had better luck with the latter in the past, but the tracker is more convenient when it works.
Where can I find this magical map?
I just noticed somthing, there's a "stable release" link off of the D2-XL website, not right now, next time we should use that.
Heh, and you haven't lived until you've had a flare-fight in a narrow hallway. :D
I'm not sure if you'll be able to see my game this time, but we could give it another try tonight if you'd like. Just let me know what time you'd like me to start the game. Anytime between now and 1am Eastern US (7am UTC) is good for me. :)
Have you opened the tracker port (9424)?
what port do I want to select when I jpoin a tracker game?
Agh, I'm very sorry guys. I again had to take care of family affairs (please don't ask, it's a personal matter) and couldn't get back online to let you all know.
Tomorrow (later today, rather), I'm going to be very busy with said family affairs, but I'll try my best to be able to play later in the night. I'll make a post if I can find the time to play/host.
Kewl, I'll start it up in about an hour.so, about 10pm EST?
I'm hoping we'll all be able to actually see each other this time.Yeah, i forgot about that ! Sure hope so.
Thought the reactor was invulnerable, sorry whatsisname, and Simx if you're reading this.
watsisname to simX in Shaker Castle: Look behind you!
simX: Eh?
level starts shaking
*** watsisname has committed suicide.
That's no problem. :) We we're going to be calling it a night anyways, since it's getting very late here. And of course, i missed it... :sigh: oh well. I'm upr trying to get another game together today, if anyone else is up for it.
We'll talk and hopefully play again tonight (Sunday night), so I'll post here again if/when we start it up.
Anyways, that was one of the most fun series of game's I've played in a LOOONG time. Definitely no shortage of hilarity. :D
Did the game go down or something? I thought he was going to leave it up but couldn't see it anymore.
I'll try putting one up
Should be up now
If karx and I can get Mac hosting to work, it's possible that I can put up a permanent server on my computer at work which is always on and always connected to the internet, and has a superfast connection. University, so none of this asynchronous connection crap of cable and DSL -- it's like a T3 or something. :D
But how to keep it from crashing? And how would we switch missions?
Anyone up for another game tonight? Heehee, I'm totally on a roll with game hosting lately. :D
If we play, please use version 1.6.140. (If it doesn't work, just use the most recent version that does work for you). I'll be working on getting more specific bug reports to post up with the latest version (the bug report I have currently has too much older crap in it, so I'll start fresh), and we can all test out some more custom levels. :)
Hey, karx, I do have one feature request if "`" (the ~ key) could display about half a screen worth of old messages it would make the texting a little easier.
bah, my stupid internet connection was offline again for no reason for the last several hours. :doubt: At least I got a $50 credit this time, after arguing with the Comcast CSR for a while. I'll be free for the next several nights as long as there are no further problems with this.
We had a somwhat successful game, except for certain peoples mother's.
Ok guys, I'm hoping to host at roughly 2am (EST) It *might* be a tad bit later though, depending on when I am able to return. I'll post when I'm ready though. :)
Would someone mind to see if "Swantz's Game" is showing up?
Ah, almost forgot to forward ports, check again please. :)
Sure, I'll leave it up for a while.
Yay, another night with no internet. After arguing with another retard for about 20 minutes, I got $50 more credited. I'm going to be rich at this rate. :D
I used to be able to host in the past but I get that consistency error in the newer builds. What exactly does that mean anyway?
Man, why can't Comcast do that over here? That way at least I can extort money from them the way they do from me. :)
$70?! :eek2: :shaking:
I pay 25 Euros/Month for DSL flat (6MB/500 KB) + phone flat ...
That's Comcast for you. :p It's actually the combined price for a cable TV/internet package so it's not as bad as it looks (okay, maybe it is :p).
Woo. I got a copy of Descent 2, installed the files and D2-XL, and i can't seem to find any servers. did I do something wrong here? :wtf:
I'd be on too, but I think WindowsXP's Command Line hates D2. I installed, and it's running waaaaaay too fast, plus, it couldn't find a working sound card, so.... no sound. Any ideas? (I have D2 working on an old Win98 machine, but that has no Internet connection... :()
The port is 28342, I don't no if there's going to be a game up tonight or not, whatsisname is the only person currently able to host, so it sort of hinges on his schedule.
bah. i have the maps, but D2-XL won't recognize 'em. :hopping:
bah. i have the maps, but D2-XL won't recognize 'em. :hopping:
Cobra, try this: create a folder called "missions" at the same level as your folder called "data" and your d2x-xl application. Any maps that you download from descent2.de (they should include a .hog file and a .mn2 file) should go in this missions folder.
ok im tying to host right now... if anybody is on right now you are welcome to join.
what data folder? (and i already have a folder, labelled as a capitalized missions. i.e. MISSIONS :))
dude by the time you posted i was already done 12 hours ago and in bed
You can get them HERE (http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?p=114185#114185), HERE (http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?p=114353#114353) or HERE (http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?p=148513#148513).
missions must reside in the missions folder, or a subfolder of it.Its ok.. what ever he did, he was able to join us! 8)
It's getting a bit late and I've got classes starting tomorrow, so I'll need to be calling it a night. I should be able to host some more games sometime this coming weekend though, and hopefully we can get a good game going with a lot of players. Hope to see you then. :)
If he's anything like me he'll be exhausted and pretty much brain-dead by the end of the year anyway... we don't want to give him too much of a head start.
Psh, and you call yourself a student. "Calling it a night" at midnight? The night's not even started! :p
Psh, and you call yourself a student. "Calling it a night" at midnight? The night's not even started! :PI enjoy *not* being sleepy when I'm attending a 2-hour lecture on physics or calculus and making notes, while the professer fills 3 blackboards with important material a total of between 5 and 10 times during that period.
 @ CP.
Aye, the textbooks are the best source of info, but I find it just as important to pay attention in lecture. Besides, (for me), the lecture is far more interesting/entertaining than reading the book.
Uh, I'm actually going to be calling it a night this time, since I've got my favorite class (Calculus II) 9 hours from now, and I don't want to be tired for it.
Yeah, go ahead and laugh at me... punks. :p
I guess I can't be too tired for my math classes this semester since there are around 10 students in each one, so I couldn't fall asleep without being noticed. :p The analytic number theory one has an excellent professor who I know personally, but I don't know what the other two will be like. The remaining classes have around 150 students each, so there will be no problems there. :D
By the way, simX, that quote in your signature...is that the same Ambrosia who made Maelstrom? I used to play that game religiously back around '93 on my Mac. I remember I had one crazy high score where I got to level 52.
Back on topic, it appears that I am unable to join games with any levels that take a long time to load. Styx is one such level that, for whatever reason, takes over five times as long to load as most other levels if I play it in singleplayer.
I imagine number theory to be particularly interesting.
Honestly, having 10 students in the class never stopped me from falling asleep sometimes in my advanced math classes. :p For me, it really depends on the professor, and unfortunately, math professors in particular have a tendency to fall towards the boring side of things.
Uh huh, that's the same one. You can get a copy of the lastest here: works on Windows and Linux as well. :p
That's rather weird. Do you have the latest d2x-xl.hog file, taken from the Windows executable download? (Modification date is August 14th.)
Highlight of the night came late at shakers castle, which I decided to fill *only* with mega missiles instead. At one point, simx decided to poke fun at my wanting to sleep so that I wasn't tired for lecture in my next class, and I came at him and said "Lecture THIS!", and fired a mega at him. He flies right past me, the Mega detonates in my face, and I recieve the suicide.
you hosting one now? what mission you using?

updated my exe and dled the mission, but im not seeing it. im gonna try tweaking my router some more, or just bypass it all together. i got 28342 open and all packets with that port are being forwarded to my computer. are there any other ports the game uses that i dont know about?
simX, just isn't in it right now. ;)Heh, had a feeling that'd be the case.
im getting 300 errors when i try to join on one of those maps. any ideas? With that much info? :doubt:
I find it funny because everyone in the screenshot could see me but nobody was able to see each other! :lol:Oh no - please say that's not true! :(
argh. i've got all my ports forwarded and i can't keep a connection to anyone.
and no one will get back to me on the bug report i submitted! :hopping:
karx: There's one player in particular, a friend of watsisname named Venin, that almost always is invisible to some or most players. Maybe if we manage to get a game going with him, you can diagnose the problem? I would attempt to do so myself but heck if I know what I'm doing.
He was in the game we just played. I think it was the first time he was actually visible on my end. Although his ship seemed to freeze in place every now and then and weapon hits often didn't register, which I guess was some sort of lag effect.
Hey, guys, good news. :) karx and I have squashed some more networking bugs -- powerups shouldn't rapidly multiply anymore, players should correctly rejoin (i.e.: regain their kills) when rejoining, and, finally, we think we've found the cause of that bug where it dumps you back to the netgame list screen when trying to join. :D
The first fix is already in .191, but karx will probably be releasing a newer version soon that fixes the last 2 bugs. :D
When does the bug where the kill count is complete bull**** get fixed?
I'm constantly amazed by the progress you and Karx are making with D2X-XL. :)
Unfortunately, I am unable to get descent 3 working on my computer . Im still trying to figure it out, but I don't think I'll be able to be there tonight! Hope you guys have lots of fun!!Guh, sorry to hear that. :( Maybe we should start tonight off with D2 again for a bit so everyone can meet, and then we'll host D3 after a little bit of that? That way you can at least enjoy a bit of play. :)

BTW, hosting (either D2 or D3) will begin at about 11:00pm EST.
You may need to add D3's port to your router's forwarding list. I don't remember what it is though.
You definitely should not underestimate the value of your help. It is way easier to fix particularly networking bugs with you sitting at the other end of a connection and patiently following directions fer testing for hours and hours. :) If it hadn't been for your perseverance, D2X-XL would not be where it is now; most of all ofc the Mac version, but also the others. ;)I'm constantly amazed by th' progress ye an' Karx are makin' with D2X-XL. :)
Well, to be honest, karx does most of the fixing. I just sit at my compy in the debugger and report the values of various variables he asks about. :P But the Mac version seems to bring to the surface an inordinate number of networking bugs; either that, or I'm just really picky sometimes. ;)
CP & Mars: my compy crashed at around 3am, and rather than rejoining I just decided to call it a night. I'd love to play again later, maybe tonight or Sunday night depending on CP's schedule.
I'll be hosting D2 again tonight for a little while. Game should be up now. :)
Edit: Well, two weird things are happening. First of all, it seems that nobody else can hit me with secondary weapons with the exception of concussion missiles. I don't even see them get launched from other players from my end. Got a bug report of it down.
Other thing is a consistancy error, but I'll try fixing that later. Maybe someone else can host until then.

As I wrote on descentbb.net: There may have been bugs introduced by wot code change, avast. Fixed another bug makin' powerups disappear permanenly last night, too.

I had t' leave soon after wot point anyway. And swab the deck! If we can get four players, a monsterball game simply has t' go on th' schedule. :D
However, me onboard network controller apparently died just after I closed down me D3 game, I'll warrant ye. :shiver me timbers: It doesn't seem t' work at all anymore, nay matter what I try with it. The motherboard has another one, but I can't imagine what happened with this 'ere or how D3 could have caused it. I'll see if I can get it sorted out later today, since I think this 'ere other one is a bit slower.
We're often up around that time on the weekends, so you might be able to join us in the morning over there. :D
Anyone free for a game Saturday night at the usual time?
Bump:
I'm not sure if any of you know about this, but I found I cool tracker that updates a list of D3 games being hosted on it, and there's almost always a game being played. http://d3.descent.cx/tracker.d3 (http://d3.descent.cx/tracker.d3)
Thought it might be a fun alternative for some of you guys. :)
Ulala, what specific problem are you having with D3 multiplayer? Is one of you attempting to host your own game, or are you trying to join a pre-existing server?
I've never played multiplayer Descent before, but I pride myself on being a quick learner so I think I should provide some fun. :p
Only levels :p
See you in the mines!
you have any idea how many levels are in "Levels of the World"?
Well, that might explain it. So you just use the "UDP via Tracker" option? Weird, it couldn't find any trackers when I tried that... :doubt:

It should say "2 Trackers Found" underneath the socket stuff ("current socket is +0...blah blah blah)
If you're not finding any trackers, you may need to forward port 9424 (I think that's right), check if your router--if you used one--doesn't have any NAT issues or UDP problems, etc...

Hope you have a great vacation Dark Hunter. Heh, I'm gonna be at vacation this weekend as well (skiing :D).

/me demands to know how you got that background.Yes sir!! hehe
If you read his "message to the Descent Community", though... he says he's done with the D2X-XL project for good. He'll fix a couple more bugs then abandon it.Of course I read it, and I've also talked to him after the fact.
As I said, I will keep fixing bugs in D2X-XL. I will just not add new stuff (apart from what has been projected, like the hires models). That means D2X-XL should stay in a very healthy state. I will also keep my site and the SF.net project up. So people don't need to be worried about D2X-XL. It is here to stay. You can tell people that. ;)
I have added contact data to my Descent site, so people can reach me directly via e-mail if they wish now (see the "Impressum (http://www.descent2.de/impressum.html)" link).
The Future of D2X-XL*breathes sigh of relief*
It has been brought to my attention that there is quite some uncertainty among the D2X-XL users about the future of D2X-XL. You can rest assured that there is no need to be worried. :) As I said, I will keep fixing bugs in D2X-XL. I will just not add new stuff (apart from what has been projected, like the hires models). That means that the state of D2X-XL should grow increasingly healthy. Actually you should be happy that I will stop to constantly screw something up while adding another feature or doing another crazy experiment. ;) I will also keep this site and the D2X-XL project on Sourceforge.net up. D2X-XL is here to stay.
Here is a thought. It's clear Diedel isn't liked over there at www.descentbb.net what if we gave him a spot over here at hard-light where we are clarly a little more tollerant of otherpeoples hard work. Freespace and Descent share some of the same roots, such as same software makers and Freespace 1 being called Descent: Freespace. Heck, I'm a little suprised there isn't a forum already. ;)
Besides this has to be one of the longer threads in the history of hard-light.
How does this Saturday at 11:00 PM EST sound? I can generally play uninterrupted for several hours in the night (here), if it works for the rest of you. We can use the HLP IRC channel to coordinate games.hehe... Your Saturday night will be my Sunday afternoon-ish 1pm!
We couldn't really get it working. :p It kept crashing on my end when someone died. We'll probably try again in a few days though.CP, can you please do a bug report on this at the SF.net site (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=797586&group_id=155890&func=browse).
I don't think we'll be able to return to the old days of last summer, when we were having a game practically every night, but I'm guessing people will have much more free time once the academic year ends. I haven't seen watsisname around here in a while, but we can probably ask simX to join us again.
it can be :rolleyes:Pirating is not an option for Diedel.
but I'm sure if you look on source forge you can find an open source video editor you can use. i saw a few of em, but they were all in beta or alpha. since i don't have much real intrest in doing video, i have no need to check them out. This is true, but it's hard to sort through them all. :doubt:
Can you edit videos with it? Cut them, rearrange them, add text and music?
Windows MovieMaker is a pretty good tool, but it only creates WMV. :-/
