Title: OpenGL problems and no shinemaps with D3D
Post by: Wood on February 09, 2006, 08:40:51 pm
i'm having problems playing in opengl, the colours are all messed up. Does anyone know how to fix this?

also, i've read that the shinemaps dont work with catalyst drivers v4.4 and up in D3D. is this correct? im using cat 6.1. anyway to fix this? is there a previous version of FS2 open that would work?
i could use some help.

The shinemapping in D3D issue cannot be fixed by anything you could do.  It's code related but without an overhaul of the specular lighting code it simply will not work with any ATI driver set newer than 4.4.  To keep your shinemapping, play in OGL.  As for the funny colors in OGL mode, could you be more specific?

Make sure you're running in 32 bit mode (XxYx32 instead of XxYx16), that's about all I can think of offhand.  I don't think you're using -cell.  The brightness can be adjusted seperately, but I'm guessing that's not what you're seeing.

yeah, looks like a colour depth issue.

ok, i found out what was the problem, apparantely the catalyst AI setting on my drivers control panel cant be set too advanced, i turned it off and the problem is gone. having anti-aliasing too high caused some problems too. its all fixed now thanks.

Just a question:

What are shine maps?

I cant see much difference.

and do you have any advice on what i should download? I have 3.6.7 the official build with the 3.6.7 Vps and lightspeed's milliways. should i try one of the developing builds? CVS or something? and what about the new shinemaps pack 20? and glowmaps 1.2?

The stuff that Lightspeed made is at least a year old, and already incorporated into the Media VPs, so you don't need to mess with them.  You can get the latest CVS and the 3.6.8 Delta Media VPs, as there's some improved things there.

From recent builds (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,34852.0.html) thread or if you want to test bit older builds then from here (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/)

OpenGL causes weird yellow patterns to flash on my screen, making it useless. EDIT: Fixed that by using 32-bit color. Now it just crashes when I load a mission. Once I got about 40 glorious seconds of 120-fps glory, and then it decided it was crash time.
