what would it be? (captin, gunner, janitor ,chef, pilot)
I would man a "terran turret" on a Deimos. One of the ones on the side. Left side.
Either that or man the turret on an Ursa or Medusa.
Either that or the helm.
-
The person who sits at the desk that sits closest to the escape pods.
-
Pilot of the afromentioned escape pod, unless I don't leave, nobody leaves.....
On the other hand, captaining the ship like Hecate has that something, knowing that your ship (unless Alpha 1 is not there) can very well decide the outcome of the battle.
And for the extra bonus:
"All batteries, fire at will" is the command that everybody wants to give...
:D
-
I can tell you some places I would not want to be:
1. Alpha 2, 3, or 4.
2. On any ship in a convoy thats only designated by a greek letter and not a name.
3. On any ship that would be used to scout a new nebula, blockade a new jump node, or investigate strange disappearances in a sector without the resot of the battle group.
4. On an indestructable prototype.
5. On a transport or freighter that may be ordered to dock with something shivan.
-
I would be a chef, so I could throw tomatoes at any passing Vasudans who think I'm cooking headz for them.
Seriously though, I would probably fit in well as that scientist in the shield lab movie. 3, 2, 1, mark.

Never be the captain. Be the 2nd-in-command; the captain has to go down with the ship, you can pull rank and jump to the front of the queue at the escape pods.
-
Oooops, forgot that golden rule "You command it, you blow to smithereens with it"
Yeah, I guess you're right, being the captain has some bad qualities
I think, just about anybody who makes it to the escape pods will do....
Speaking of queue to the escape pods, "Spaceballs" was pretty hilarious....poor Dark Helmet & Co.
-
Admiral ofcourse.
-
A well known and rich ship captain in SOL. :p Having bought houses all around the Earth.
-
Janitor.
-
Historian...
-
I agree with bfobar.
-
One of the director posistions. Nowhere better for the sensual pleasure of seeing your ship's massive BEAMZ!!11! tear stuff up.
-
If I were on a FS ship I'd like to be the one that commences plasma core insertions.
If I could BE someone, I would be Admiral Aken Bosch.
-
Gunner, or perseus pilot. Or maybe the head over the department that deals with subspace travel.
-
Real Estate Agent on an Arcadia in Epsilon Pegasi.
-
I'd be a damage control officer :)
-
Hell i'll take "Bosch" place...... ;7
-
Fixing the Chicken Soup Machine. Or painting the outside.

Fixing the Chicken Soup Machine. Or painting the outside.
Well that does mean that you'd be the only one to survive a lethal radiation leak :)

Captain of hte Colossus - of course, I would RUN instead of jsut standing there...
Wait a second..on second thought, captain of any ship that is NOT in Capella. ;7
-
Commander of the 1st fleet headquarters. Then while everyone else is getting trashed by the shivans, I could just hang out and pick up pieces of the Lucifer to steal tech off of and not worry about civil wars and fly down to tahiti in my classicly restored apollo for mai tais on the beach.

The Trinity?(!)

Like you're going to get anywhere with you ****ing engines disabled.
-
"Quick, get out and push!"
-
Weapons officer. The captain makes the order, but I press the button.
-
Like you're going to get anywhere with you ****ing engines disabled.
As long as the jump drive is working...LOL
Why else would command tell Colossus to jump out, even when his engines were disabled?
-
Cause the captain of the Colossus wanted to die a heroes death so he kept lying to Command about the state of his ship.
Or cause :v: decided at the last minute to disable the Colossus rather than have it follow the waypoints it's actually assigned and then forgot to change the dialogue.
-
c) Command was accidentally receiving telemetry from the GTVA Colins Stuff, a Birmingham class garbage scow in the Wolf 359 system.
-
Or maybe in the heat of the moment the guy transmitting just screamed for them to jump outta there. I mean that's what anyone's automatic reaction would be.
-
the captain has to go down with the ship
I really don't think that's an actual rule.
-
Captains are actually among the people it's most critical to save. They're hard to replace.
It makes a noble gesture, to be sure (or more cynically, a nice way of dodging being held accountable), but it hurts more then it helps.

Still the most screwed-up mission in all of Freespace from a FREDing and technical standpoint, bar none.

It's not like anyone remembers him anyway. He is nameless and has the same voice as Samsa. And people always talk about why his ship sucks. :D

The final mission is a bit weird too. From the event/message names, it looks like they changed around several of the ship names at some point during the mission's development.
-
I vote for flak or beam cannon gunner. Blob turrets are for sissies and old people from FS1. I also wouldn't mind being Alpha 1. That is always good.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but being disabled doesn't stop a ship from jumping out (I recall FREDing a mission with a disabled ship jumping out..a long time ago)
I'd like a job on the GTD Command's Headquaters. Why?
1. You're allways bpossing other people around
2. You're far away from any danger
3. If you screw up you can allwa blame someone else
4. You can be secretive
5. You don't need a degree to get the job
-
SOC GTVI personell on an experimental new science vessel, Erinyes waiting in the fighterbay.
So, that probably means I'd take the pilot job.
-

You can FRED a mission where an Argo docks with the Colossus and carries it off into Subspace. It means bugger all in game terms. We never see a ship jump out with disabled engines in the game and it would make you wonder why ships that have been diabled don't jump out rather than waiting to be captured.
-
True, but it is possible to force a warpout via SEXPs, isn't it?
-
I'd like to be GTVA archives master. I like to be in control of a vast wealth of information. :)
EDIT: If we already got someone here more qualified for that position, I'll take apprentice.
-

Actually it depends where you put those SEXPs.
If I create an event where I give a ship a warpout goal it will go nowhere if it's disabled. However if I set a ship to jump out in its departure cue it will jump out regardless of whether its drives are damaged or not.
-
I would be a chef...
Maybe an ex navy-seal chef on the Bastion, so when the ship gets boarded by the NTF (or Tommy Lee Jones and Chief O'brian) I can single-handedly save the GTVA with nothing but my kitchen knife and Birthday-Cake stripper 'gal.
Undersiege III, it's like Die Hard, but in freespace!
But seriously...
A major share holder in Triton Dynamics :D I built the Diemos so I get to ride it.
Or
Alpha 1's co-pilot, sit back, let the guy in front win the war and take half the credit come medal-time. Really I'd just be there for moral support and to keep him supplied with Bosch Beer and such.
Or
Intelligence Spook. Mostly it's standing in the corner of the bridge looking moody, occasionally shaking my head to tell the Captain not to do what he's thinking about doing, not because of any real reason, just messing with him. Then, when the brown stuff really hits the spiny thing just commandeer a fighter using my high-level clearance and get the hell out of dodge.

seems it's only you and myself who get the vague RD references...
-
Shame that. I would expect a better hit ratio than that on a sci-fi computer game forum.
You guys should be ashamed of yourselves :p
-
It's a British show though, isn't it? I've never seen it.
(And if you're wondering how I knew what you're talking about, I simply thought of all the sci-fi shows I know of with the abbreviation "RD" and came up with only one. ;))
-

This is why (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103521/)
-
Ah yes. The American pilot of Red Dwarf with Jane "I'll be in Fraiser rather than this **** one day" Leeves
-
Didn't even realise they made one.
Naaa.. It was one of those series that was utterly dependent on four things...
Chris Barry
Danny John-Jules
Craig Charles
Robert Llewellyn
Edit : And for preference, Norman Lovett
-
Let's not forget the US remakes of One Foot In the Grave with Bill Crosbie and the god-awful versions of Fawlty Towers - all 3 of them. American networks need to learn; there's no point copying British comedy if you don't get the joke.
-
Hey, the office seems to be working.
But as a brit who spent much of thursday watching his seasion 1-to-4 box set of Red Dwarf I think I can clearly state that I got the joke.
-
Pilot of an SF Dragon, so long as no Aeolus classes are around.
-
I would be the guy at command that Issues the orders and comes up with the plans, that way I'd get all the credit for it going right and none of the flack for it going wrong.
-

They used to show Fawlty Towers on PBS at night, with John Cleese.
Loved that show :(
-
Piloting a Manticore, it is just one sweet fighter.
-
Spacecrack dealer. :pimp:
-
I would be the one who would ship in Playstation 2's to the crew.
-
Captain of hte Yolly Roger...with an guardian flag and BFGreens and ULTRA-AAAf's....
-
I'd be the guy who checks the release mechanisms on the Escape pods ;)
-
Oh, either a janitor or a chef! Everyone knows that it's always those that are bound to become the heroes. Hm, and let's try to ignore Pearl Harbour.
-
Pilot of an SF Scorpion.
...Before the GTVA figured out how to damage shields... ;7
-
I would take a job as a pegasus pilot as long as command remembered that stealth recon fighters should jump out immediately if detected.
-
I'd be the navigator on a ship, so i could drop it right in the middle of a strike force and take them all by surprise. ;7
-
Escape Pods? naaaa, fly a weeeeeeeeeeeakkkkkk and unarmed ship? in the midle of a combat full of Shivans? I prefer to steal an unshielded Apollo which ML-16s from the Bastion Musseun in the mission of collapse the Epsilon Pegasi node, and get out to space in the midle of a rain of bombs and Seraphins which turrents lol!
Now, I whan to be that Command guy of the final mission that say "Capella is turn intro Supernova, RUN", yes its easy to send mensages from Vega lol xD
Something that I not whant to be... None that is on a Fenris or Faustus... common... You are to be crazy to get on that ships that can be easy take out which a few Hornets :P
-
If I had to be captain of a ship, I'd choose the deimos. Those things are pretty tough, and with 4 engines, all I have to do is stay of the main firing arc of the destroyers.
-
shoot beams at the Orion's ass. :D

Becarefull which the Helios on the front :P

You'd be able to pick out the ship I was a captain of because it would be the one ramming the engines.
"Gunnery control, your signal to fire is when we hit something."
