Apparently my graphics card can handle everything in the upgrade effects EXCEPT the shockwave. I can play all the way through the first mission until the Belisarious explodes. And then the game simply crashes. I've tried almost alll the Builds since near the end of December, and I've tried 3.6.7 Media VPs and 3.6.8 Media VPs. But the result is always the same. The mission plays fine up until the shockwave is supposed to uccur, so I don't have a problem with the rest of the effects. >.< I have a Dell DIMENSION DIM4600 Intel(R), if that helps any. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could make an effects.vp without the 3D shockwave.

It's not the 3D shockwaves. I have the same problem when I run the game on my integrated chipset on my laptop regardless of what explosion effects are in use.
Try using OpenGL mode. That fixed mine perfectly, and OGL is far better than D3D at this point anyway in optimisations and overall support.

You can try the low-end shockwave. (I don't have a link for it)

hi,
i think its maybe better if the luncher has a option, to activate the shockwave or/and the quality of the shockwaves.
so can the user decision, what they use.

For the time being, if you want a lower quality one, you can simply place the version you prefer in the mediavps/data/effects directory and it should override the one in the VPs themselves. Same goes for other selected effects you might want to use over what's in the VPs. Just make sure it's the same file name.

hi,
yeah, the way is clear, but for the most user is that eayser if there an option in the luncher to choise the quality.
and i think the default is the best the variant over lowest.
i know may people there no know that a game have options.
they play with default high or low and wonder why the game is so slow or look so bad ...

I had the same problem a few days ago but fixed it. I doubt it's the shockwaves. As someone said, switch to OpenGL. Also be sure you have all the necessary files (mv core, adveffects, etc) because for they didn't seem to come with 3.6.7 when I downloaded it.

I'm using the Mac build, and I used to have this same problem. The Mac build only supports OpenGL, so it wasn't a D3D issue. The 20060206 build fixed the problem, however.
