Thanks for the cheers.  My reaction when I first saw it was "YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".  It will be a blast to play, when it is released, methinks.

thats the one. i jusp tried it out pretty quick. they got the 6dof part down fairly well, i was impressed considering how previous descent mods for quake/unreal engine games turned out. impressive progress though considering the mod id in its infancy.

Hmm, haven't heard of this one as of yet.  Wonder if they'll drop by the Descent community to do some advertising; I don't think anyone else has mentioned them as of yet.

P.S. In the same realm, let's not forget about Core Decision (http://coredecision.highoctane.biz/), a brand-new 6DOF game that's going retail by the end of this year.  The development team has been very close with the Descent community, and we all have high hopes for it.

I think I'd rather just play freespace.

Well, an alternative freespace game based on freespace and using the source engine wouldn't be too bad, would it?

Meh, looks ok, but doesn't interest me. And why the hell would we want to put Freespace on Source? Im sick and tired of the OMFG EVERYTHINGZ BTR ON SOURCE!!1111
The engine is crap, and the only thing pretty about it (the water effects), would never, ever be used in Freespace. It'd be useless. On top of that, there are dozens of other games out there that an FPS for FS would be better built on.

Hmmm...

give me time, im curerntly trying to get my old quake maps into freespace. i just need to figure out how to bake the textures first so they dont bot fsopen down to a standstill with neumorous render passes.

You know, you're right.  Methinks the doom 3 engine would probably be a better canidate (I can't spell, lol).  The awesome lighting, and the superbumpmapping, for one, would make it look awesome.

Wait a tick... isn't that already in the scp?

Why do we want to put Freespace into a different engine period? The engine we have is already superb, open source, extremely moddable, and has all the necessary tools. What does Doom 3 have over that? Bumpmapping and shadows? Er...yea; that will all come to FS2 eventually.

doom 3 is far more suited to a descent mod than freespace is. a level in pof format will never look as good as a level in dooms map format. pof was never designed for levels. freespace open is still the best space sim engine so i guess its better just to stick to it than to make a freespace mod for another game.
