 I got that bug message everytime I start the TBP game:
Error: Error parsing 'ships.tbl'
Error code = 1.
File:E:\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C++\fs2_open\code\Ship\Ship.cpp
Line: 3033
Call stack:

Could annybody help me please ? I really want to play the game .
-
What TBP Core release are you using. If its 3.3, have you downloaded and installed the patch? If it persists, delete any ships.tbl files in the data/tables directory.
-
thats the same problem i was having, except stated more clear
-
i cant find anyfiles with that name, i have installed all the patches
-
So you've installed the 3.3 Release updater, and installed the most recent 3.3a patch?
-
yes
-
Are you playing in D3D or OGL? What's your system specs and OS? Which FSO build are you using?
-
i'm having the same problem and don't have a clue what causes it. my specs: athlon64 3000+ 512mb ram geforce 6200TS winxp sp2
i'm running the default setttings from the loader.

I've highlighted the more important question.
-
well, tried installing again, and it turns out this error appears once the 3.3 is installed, i got in game with the 3.2 release. the fsopen ver is 5.2 (i got the standalone version of the mod)

You still didn't answer the important question, and by your post it seems that you don't understand WHAT I'm actually asking. 5.2 is the build number of the Launcher, not of FSO. You see, for 3.3(+3.3a patch) we added support for setting the initial positions of multi-part turrets, to something other than straight up or straight down, thanks to the newer animation code. If you're still using the same build that was included with 3.2, then that's the problem right there. The animation code isn't supported by those older builds. To facilitate this change, more recent builds were included with the 3.3a patch. Included are the 3.6.7 official builds, which were released in early september (IIRC), the 2005/12/22 build, which was the last one to support the older (3.3 default) animation code, and 2006/01/09, which is the most recent build that lacks any serious bugs for TBP, but it requires the new animation code. A readme included with the 3.3a patch RAR file, has instructions on how to use it.
If you don't know what build you're using, open the launcher and take a look at the location bar just next to the "browse" button at the top. Click in the location bar and scroll right with your keyboard arrows. Then post which filename of fs2_open is listed there.

im back again, had comp problems, my build is 5.2 on the launcher, i dont understand the readme file in the 33.a , i cant find the advhub, to delete, i ectracted the patch into the data file, then i tried to make a data table and put it in there. I dont know what to do anymore. thanks
-
You need to extract the contents of the 3.3a patch RAR into the "c:\Program Files\The Babylon Project" folder, or wherever you've put the main game. Do not un-rar it into the "\data" directory. Doing this correctly will automatically put all files where they need to be. Among those files extracted from the RAR, will be a file called fs2_open_Red_2005-12-22_r.exe (as well as fs2_open_Red_2005-12-22-P4_r.exe). When you launch the program via the launcher, there is a button called "browse". Click that, which will bring up a list of all Freespace Open builds in the game directory. Select the one I indicated (the one with the "-P4" part is if you're using a Pentium 4 or equivalent PC). You may find that you get a few command line errors after doing this. Click the "features" tab and under the "list type" drop-tab, select "graphics" and then click "enable more realistic lighting" (if you're using OGL). Under the "gameplay" list type, make absolutely sure that "toggle features for The Babylon Project" is selected. There may be others, so try to post any you get. These error messages will be because the names of some command line options will have changed between the build you're most likely using (3.6.5) and the build I've indicated. Using the 2005/12/22 build means you don't have to extract the -adv tables. Should be the simplest solution.
-
Remember though, if you're installing it so that you can just run it off your SCP install, you don't want spaces in your directories.
-
Well, it's not recommended that TBP be installed as a MOD for a FS2 install. In addition, the default install directory prevents the "MOD" feature in the launcher from working properly, because of the spaces, but it can be done manually by adding in the -mod XXXXX data into the custom command line flags.

got it to work your way, only problem was the sound crapped out half way through the first mission, except for the music that stayed, but the gun sounds and talking stopped. thanks :hopping: :pimp: :shaking:

got this when i was trying to play the black hand missons, watch the cut scene for about 2 mintues, evry time i run the game i get this now.
-
Which FSO build were you running when you got that error message?
-
its working again but the sound is still messed up on the raider wars campaign?
-
Have you updated your OpenAL drivers?
-
not sure what that is, my sound drivers should be updated as far as i know
-
got the sound to work, usde that file on the sound problem thread down below this topic, works perfectly, thanks for all the help trivial, good job on the project every body
-
*Breaths a sign of relief*
-
Trivial Psychic should be TBP's official tech support dude. We could even give you a 1-800 number so you could be on call 24/7. Sounds good, doesn't it? :D
-
i cant find anyfiles with that name, i have installed all the patches
That's because the file is compressed in an archive that the game expands into memory.
-
I've got abit of a problem, I downloaded what I believe is the standalone version (3.3) (Retail installed not required?) However when I install to any folder (default or otherwise) They is nothing in that folder execpt the uninstall.exe from the installer. Secondly the patch is extremely confusing, I understand you extract it to the main dir, but theres so many exe's and no launcher that I have no idea what I am ment to run.
-
I've not heard that 3.3 is the standalone so far...
You have to download 3.2 first and than you have to install 3.3 to the directory where you got 3.2... after that you'll have to patch that with the 3.3a patch to get it working...
THERE IS NOT FS2 RETAIL VERSION REQUIRED TO PLAY TBP ANYMORE!!!
to the many .exes:
all fs_openXXXXXX.exe are the game .exes (which need to be configured before running by a launcher which is included to the 3.2 package)
all fred_openXXXX.exe are the mission editor
/EDIT: I just read that the 3.2 link at Stargame could be broken...
-
I see, and is there a mirrior to these needed files?
-
Hi there,
Sorry to drag this thread up again, but I've been having the exact same problem as the first poster. I've followed the instructions for the fix (Or at least I thought I did ::) ) but now every time I open the launcher, I get a 'Failed to read flag file' error message and the game wont run.
I'm running a 3Ghz P4 with XP Pro, and the FSO version is fs2_open_Red_2005-12-22-P4_r.exe
Any help on this would be hugely appreciated as I'd love to give this a go.

This is not TBP specific problem. Pointing Finger of Blame +1 turns towards SCP.
My advice to you is useh teh friggin' search. :D
There's dozens of threads in the sourcecode boards related to this problem, do a search. Or just go to the Source code boards and read the sticky thread called Solution: "Failed to read flag file" :P

I am very experienced in using a variety of forums including moderating on some rather large ones so believe me, I spent a good while 'useh teh friggin' search' assuming that's meant to be 'using the friggin' search'. Simply pointing out that there was a thread somewhere I may not have seen it (being a newbie to this particular forum) would have sufficed, or possibly actually being helpful and providing a link to the board you mention.
-
Not only that but the search function on this board is
dire fuxxored! :p

I know that. But at least for me, it gives plenty of results when searching for "Failed to read flag file"...
And I didn't meant to offend you in any way by throwing the search phrase at you. Every newbie is bound to get it sooner or later. Anyway, have you found the sticky thread in the Source Code Project forums? That should help in your problem.
-
I did find the sticky and I have installed the OpenAL software. Now I get an error box that says 'Unrecognized command line parameter -tbp, continue?' if I continue get the flash screen come up and then right back to square one with the original error message.
-
Have you tried another build?

Have you tried another build?
I've tried various options offered under the browse tab on the launcher, in fact, if I try to run the game from the launcher, I get a windows error box that forces the whole game to shut down.
-
What does the error say?

First of all you see this one
(http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c273/MotorbikeMan/Misc/iviewcapture_date_08_11_2006_time_1.jpg)
Then if you click to see what the report contains you get this one
(http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c273/MotorbikeMan/Misc/iviewcapture_date_08_11_2006_tim-1.jpg)
I get the same thing happen whatever .exe file I use.
-
How exactly did you install the TBP (or FreeSpace Open) ?
-
Open the launcher and go to the features tab. Copy and paste everything in the greyed out box that shows your command line for us to take a look at it.

Here you go
C:\Program Files\The Babylon Project\fs2_open_Red_2005-12-22-P4_r.exe -spec -glow -jpgtga -nomotiondebris -2d_poof -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -nobeampierce -ship_choice_3d -3dwarp -tbp -snd_preload -ambient_factor 60
-
Go into the launcher and turn off the gameplay>>Toggle features for the Babylon Project option.
Although that is a rather strange problem.

Done that and no change. It now reads as follows,
C:\Program Files\The Babylon Project\fs2_open_Red_2005-12-22-P4_r.exe -spec -glow -jpgtga -nomotiondebris -2d_poof -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -nobeampierce -ship_choice_3d -3dwarp -snd_preload -ambient_factor 60

Might the solution in THIS (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,43262.0.html) thread help any?
-
If it doesn't go into your data folder, delete the cmdline_fso.cfg as well as the launcher6.ini and flags file and then try again.
-
Thanks for the help guys, but none of this has made any difference whatsoever, in fact, I didn't even have a launcher6.ini file, just a Launcher.ini file. I think I'm probably just going to give up as a bad idea, maybe try again next time I re-format the hard drive.
-
Drake Tanner.. Lets try few things before giving up.
A screenshot of the contents of your TBP directory might be helpful. And also the version of the launcher you are using (from the top of the launcher).

That's your problem! You must have a very old version of the launcher to be getting that. Where on Earth did you get it from? I'm pretty sure that TBP ships with v5.x of the launcher. Anyway replace your launcher with this one (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/Launcher.rar) and it should work (or at least give you a more useful error message).

I'll give it a go, but all the TBP software I'm using is the latest release from the website.
