Title: Error in fs_open
Post by: cASH on February 11, 2006, 10:50:02 pm
I downloaded fs_open and mv_core, music, model, effect, and texture but when i try to play it gives me this error.

Error: mv_music-mus.tbm(10):

You need a more recent version of the SCP.  Either that or change the mediaVPs back to version 3.6.7.

Ok i tried doing what you said but it still doesnt work. has something to do with a bunch of .ogg files.

a little offtopic here but how to extract the files using vpmage? i can read the source inside and view all the stuff but it wont let me edit it in anyway.

it still doesnt work.

Nothing annoys me more when someone asks for help and then follows up with "it doesn't work". Makes me wonder if I should even bother writing errors that tell people what's wrong, and instead just pop up a dialog that says "IT DIDN'T WORK!!!!" whenever something goes wrong, since that's all they bother to say anyway. :doubt:

mv_music works. It's the only VP that I haven't had any reason to change since the initial 3.6.8 beta release. If there's a problem with it, it's a code problem, and I doubt you're going to get someone to go through 100-200 thousand lines of code with a bug report of "it doesn't work".

So, unless you're willing to actually try and work with people on the forums to figure out what the problem is, you might as well just not use the VP.

I just recently Wiped my harddrive and decided to reinstall O/S and games

Had FS2SCP running fine before and i scoured these threads to find a duplicate error and this topic started it off exaclty

Before you even start about setup guides and files and such, been there done that , nothing new that will enlighten me, problem is not the installation

No matter which version I install, and I have installed fs2 and fs2SCP 10 times in in either my Games drive or my root C drive but as soon as I select the option for the Mediavps files I get crashes, if I disable use of the files it launch fine ( i have them in a seperate folder "mediavps")

now before my wiped my harddriive, I had VB software on my harddrive, now I do not and have no need on this machine....................................................... ................and basically folks that is the only difference

I dummped the eintire callstack to notepad, i wanted them all because I have removed indiviual vp files in the folder to see if it was only one, if i removed the music_vp files it went right to model errors...

Looks like Bobboau, but something not quite right. If he points at you and emits a high pitched scream, you know not to trust him.

It seems like you are using too old builds. Try more recent builds like the 3.6.9 RCs or something. Newest media vps do not function properly or at all with 3.6.7 builds.
Title: Re: Error in fs_open
Post by: BUBBALOU on June 20, 2006, 09:41:21 am
these look like table file errors folks.... game looks for one file type and another is present...read!

So IOW... what you are saying is that 3.6.7 vp files (http://scp.indiegames.us/download.php?list.2) for the latest the STABLE build 3.6.7 are indeed not for 3.6.7.. what are you smoking???

Please if you are looking for ++postcounts in this thread... dont

Yeah but its referring to internal source code wojamathingies, I linked to a relevant possible solution earlier in the thread did it not help?

3.6.7 Mediavps are for 3.6.7 release... The patches for it (especially patch #3) are not.
Title: Re: Error in fs_open
Post by: BUBBALOU on June 20, 2006, 09:54:39 am
If i run FS2SCP with out the VP files. fine
as soon as FS2SCP starts to read the table files located in the data folder of each VP file it finds errors

Game needs [$item] xxx.pof table file say NO I have [$model] xxx.pof

error is created because yes the file name is right but the identifier key is wrong... you do understand that very basic concept

Unless there is a grander Tbl. file somewhere not linked anywhere on any of the sites that defines changes of that sort... it is hosed

Im not using a cvs build

Title: Re: Error in fs_open
Post by: Wanderer on June 20, 2006, 10:03:58 am
Your errors are caused by +nocreate entry in modular table files. As the parsing function hits the +nocreate it will start looking for the next weapon  or other some such (like soundtrack, depending on the table file) entry.. namely $Name: line. So it generates huge amounts of errors due that single line. Main problem is that +nocreate option for the modular table files was not introduced before 3.6.7 was released.

Well then time to break out my old DNet tools and dig back into table files (no stranger to them)

and start with this pup first

The other posters were correct.  The mediaVPs are too new for the FSO build you're using (or the FSO build is too old for the mediaVPs... take your pick).  Try the 3.6.9 RC 3 build.
