Is this the second coming of christ or something?
He finally is getting the message..
HALLELUJA!

I've never seen a movie of a Videogame beyond some of Wing Commander, and Resident Evil, wasn't overly impressed, wasn't overly disgusted by either of them (though admittedly, I only ever played the first Wing Commander game).
I don't think a Dungeon Siege movie would be a good idea, it'll end up something like 'The A-Team meets Lord of the Rings' and that is a scary thought.
-
I pity the foo' that enjoyed those movies.
-
<Gandalf> To wear the ring is to be seduced by it's power, little hobbit.
<Frodo> ****, I pity the foo' who don't be all up in this **** right here. It be some serious bling, mutha****a!
<Gandalf> You must take the ring and destroy it in the fires of Mordor!
<Frodo> I ain't gettin' on no plane....

They took all that was good of WC1 and WC2, put it in a blender, and set it for "puree".

At least they garnished it with Saffron Burrows afterwards, which helped.

And besides, says Boll, what exactly is it that we are expecting from him? After all, he is using videogames as his source material, and they're hardly reknowned for their complex characterisations and sophisticated narratives.
"Let's be realistic, what is House of the Dead? House of the Dead is a brainless shooter, where you shoot zombies into pieces. So what are you expecting from the movie, Schindler's List?"
He makes a good point.
-
But if he knows that they're gonna be bad, then why make them?
-
Do they make a profit?
-
Probably not, but even if they do, a director shouldn't make a crappy movie, simply on principle.
-
Because he doesn't care if his movies are as good as Schindler's List. I tend to agree with (some of) what he had to say. He wanted to make entertaining gory fast movies based on a couple different video games, and by all means, he should. He just shouldn't expect rave reviews, and it doesn't look like he does really. I haven't seen any of his movies, but the point he makes is sound. If he wants to make a movie with a weak story, cheesy plot, and tough characters to act, and someone actually makes the investment so he can do it, more power to him. Besides, it's not like we're being tied down to our chairs and forced to watch his movies.
-
Bad movies have their place. There are movies of different caliber that serve different purposes, and I go into them with different expectations. Some movies are works of art, and they have to watched actively and thoughtfully to be appreciated. Other movies deliver us our dosage of boobs and violence, and you can (and probably should) watch them with your brain on autopilot.
-
The name Ed Wood comes to mind ;)
-
Do they make a profit?
Horrendous losses. But then. that's the whole point.
-
Right, isn't he exploiting some German tax loophole? Thought I read that somewhere...

Yeah, it allows some big write-off for investors in a failed film; although it was closed in Jan, apparently films announced prior still come under it; which is why Boll is lying about it not being an issue (he announced 5 or 6 films in December 2005).
-
Apparently Uwe Boll is a fan of The Producers....
-
If you're talking films.. do you mean the new remake or the original staring Zero Mostel?
-
I was alluding to the idea of making a killing with an intentional flop.
-
Ah! Remind me not to always take things at face value. Carry on :)
-
That's okay. It was a dumb joke.
