Title: Looking for a particular music file
Post by: Ghost on February 15, 2006, 07:04:03 pm
Is there a copy, perchance, of the FS2 intro cutscene music? Neither I nor my friends have been able to find it anywhere.

Not to my knowledge, though Flipside tried to recreate it once IIRC.  A shame too, as it's a really good piece.

I've done some variations on the theme of it, but the only way you'd get the video music itself is to strip it off of the video as far as I know. My own mucking around with it produced this :-

Edit : Damn! Now I've listened to it again I find myself thinking 'I could do that better' LOL

I have an mp3 which is basically a direct rip of the FS2 intro (complete with sound effects and voiceover) if you want it.

Ugh. No offense, but that's just... Well, it's still infinitely better than what I could do. But still. Ew.

It's pretty old now, and copying other peoples stuff isn't my strongest suite. But it's very much a matter of taste. That is, to the note, the music from the Freespace video, just without the choir :)

You'll be amazed how much tunes change once you take the 'visual' side of the video away ;)

Well here's (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/Misc-Downloads/fs2_intro_full.wav) the original so people can compare them side to side :)

Hmmm.. the beginning works, the middle of my one slips a bit, I stay in C whereas the video moves up to an F before dropping back down to C again. And the ending fits back in again. I changed some of the repeats just to pad out the music but I still think I could do better. It's actually closer, notewise, to the original than I thought it would be.
