Title: Humanity learns nothing of lessons past, (render)
Post by: Fineus on October 08, 2001, 04:24:00 pm
Fortunately everyone has ok'd the publishing of this image - whilst there shouldn't be anything drastically offensive about it, I wanted to make sure first.

Inspired by recent events and created as a small reminder to humanity that mistakes can be made twice. I hope you all like the render, it's simple but I think it works well.

Better than I expected. But... there hasn't been a lesson yet. Aren't you kinda jumping the gun?

The lesson is not to kill eachother, I was hoping I wouldn't have to spell it out.

As long as there are people alive, people are going to kill each other. Some people.. well.. lets just say that they're a few ants short of a picnic...

I was actually thinking of making a mission with that premise

That's the idea behind the GAME, dude.

And anyone who didn't learn that lesson long ago needs to start reading the news and going withing 100 yards of other humans  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Anyway... nice render at any rate, Thunder

Thanks guys, and I realised that it might not have been in the best of tastes but there was a survey thread up before I posted it and nobody levelled any good complaints at it. To be honest having seen the last thread you posted that got owned I'm not sure I'd listen to you anyway, but thats besides the point.

And to the rest - I'm glad you like it  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

You stole my text glows  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Looks good, though. As a render - I'd put some lighting from that explosion onto the Arcadia  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Like I said: screw political correctness.

It's a great render, and needed to be posted.

If you're using PhotoShop, they're done the same way as explosions - put them on a new layer and switch that layer's blending options to 'Screen'.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I see........that means I have to first remove the background which is black and then chaneg Blending Options to "Screen" then?

That's the beauty of it - you don't need to remove the black background. Changing the layer blending to 'Screen' does that for you. Give it a shot.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Yep, I didn't make it to obvious in the tutorial but I have made one that tells you how to do them ("http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/sot/tutorials/tut_explosions.shtml").

Argh!! Why didn't I see this???!!!

So I don't have to remove the black background.

I'll go home and try it after work. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
