Hello there, everyone. Hmm, it seems I'm a newbie here.
I can say one thing right now, it was when I saw the Shadows of Lylat StarFox conversion mod that got me hooked on FreeSpace 2. Yeah, I'm a StarFox nut. ^_^
And, I've got a question. I recently downloaded FreeSpace 2, the full version, cutscenes and all. Prior to that, I had what I guess was the abbreviated version, which only took up ~600 MB on my hard drive and was missing files such as cutscenes and ship models in the vehicle viewer. That version worked fine as it was. Now, with this new one, which totals up to about 2 GB of space, every time I try to start FS2 from the ORIGINAL launcher (this isn't FreeSpace 2 Open... yet) it gives me an error saying something to this extent:
Error: Error parsing 'weapons.tbl'
Error code = 2.
File:C:\projects\freespace2\code\Weapon\Weapons.cpp
Line: 1432
Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
Use Ok to break into Debugger, Cancel exits.
And to top it off, whenever I go to start a mission, I get about 6 of these in a row for various things, some being missing files. And then, when I get into the mission (it still lets me start) I see some spots in space that are MISSING I guess, because all that's there is like, a slice of what kinda looks like TV static. And then it all happily crashes on me about 30 seconds later. Fun.
Or, sometimes when I go to start FS2, it just says "FreeSpace 2 encountered an unknown error and had to close, do you want to send an error report to Microsoft?" That doesn't happen as often though. And, when FS2 crashes, this is the error that pops up. Same one every time.

I tried FreeSpace 2 full version again just now. I got the aforementioned error when starting, and then the opening cutscenes play fine. I entered, selected my pilot, and I clicked on the Ready Room, and these seven errors came up in quick succession:

And it just let me into the mission... I had transferred my player data over from the previous version of FS2 I had, and I had already beaten it, and so this was entering the final mission. The cutscene of the Bastion played perfectly, then the mission briefing went off without a hitch. I entered the level, and 15 seconds later I got the message saying "FreeSpace 2 has encountered an error and needs to close. Please tell Microsoft about this problem."
I hope that's enough info for anyone who knows what FreeSpace 2's hanging itself on, cause I'm at a total loss. Any ideas?

Where did you download the full version? It looks like you got the SCP pack one, which means that all that stuff won't work with default FS2. Get the FSOpen launcher/exe and try running it to see what happens.

I found a little torrent file somehow by going through some FreeSpace stuff, but I don't remember where it was...
I think it was the SCP version though, it did come with FS2Open. But whenever I run it through the Open launcher, it crashes with the "send report to Microsoft" error. And I just downloaded what I -think- is the latest launcher from the SCP homepage, but I haven't installed it yet. The version of the launcher I downloaded is 3.6.5 I think. Is that current?
Is there something the previous launcher was doing wrong that was causing it to crash, like installing it wrong? I installed FS2Open it like it wanted to, then browsed for the FS2Open .exe file in the launcher, but that didn't do much, it just crashes every time.
Or maybe it's because that launcher was outdated, I don't know what version it was. I'll try the new one and get back to you on how it goes. But will installing FS2Open that solve the problems those errors were indicating?

What's your video card? Anything below a GeForce for NVidia will not let you run FS2-Open to its fullest.

Download this set of files (http://scp.indiegames.us/download.php?view.134) and extract them into your main FS2 dir, feel free to overwrite the launcher so that it gets upgraded to the newest version. Run "fs2_open_367.exe" with the Launcher and tell us what you see before the pilot screen. :)

Also read Karajormas FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/installing.html) to get idea how you should have installed the game. Its nice to have people around here who are interested in Starfax mod

I like Starfox too, hehheh.
The one mod, which development I watch very carefully, along with TBP and Inferno of course...

Welcome aboard, looks like you downloaded Freespace SCP from Shivan_SPS ;) At least the link in the info file is being looked at ;)
Yup, what you have are media files to upgrade FS2 to the level provided by the SCP, it doesn't contain all the files needed to play FS2 :)

Well, I just bought myself a brand new ATI Radeon 9250 PCI... 256 MB too. ^_^

Woohoo, thanks! Yeah, I'll try that out.
