Title: Hrmmm... Error: Launcher must be in the freespace dir
Post by: ltmayonnaise on February 19, 2006, 01:55:48 pm
This is the error I get no matter what .exe I try to load into the launcher. The launcher.exe is in my freespace 2 directory which is E:\games\freespace2. I've tried loading both the 3.6.7 standard and optimized for p4 executables. I have a feeling this may be caused by me trying to run SCP under windows x64 edition. Anyone have any experience with this problem?

Thanks!

We have a new launcher in the works, and I think something like this has been fixed.  I should post launcher builds once in a while.

I saw this one very recently. I'm just trying to remember what caused it......

It was something stupid like clicking on an exe that wasn't in my main FS2 folder or something. Have you actually run the launcher, clicked on the browse button and picked an executable from inside the Freespace2 folder?

Not a good idea IMHO...better to only post a new one when an official release of the launcher is made. The last thing we need is another EXE that there can be 5-10 different versions of that may or may not have certain bugs.

Yep, I ran the launcher from my freespace2 directory first thing. I hadn't clicked on any freespace 2 or scp executable prior to running the launcher the first time... I've also re-downloaded the launcher and tried that too but with no luck. The error message comes up when I click "browse" and then try to select any SCP executable. Strange this is...

What's bugging me is that I got exactly this error on Saturday when I was trying out a new build but I can't remember what I did to cause it.

Try looking for files called launcher6.ini and flags.lch in your main FS2 folder. Deleting them may help you.

hrmmm thanks for the help, but neither of those files are in my freespace2 directory... anyone have any idea if this might be related to me running windows x64?

Have you tried some kind of compatibility mode thing? Could it be permissions-related?

What's the latest launcher version by the way? I am using 5.3, which still has that irritating resolution reset bug.

5.3 is the latest official version, tho the CVS has been updated.
