Title: Need Mission help on Derelict Mission 'The Number of the Beast'
Post by: ZmaN on February 19, 2006, 06:16:16 pm
Ok heres how it goes down..

I start the mission, and wait for the blahblahblah 10 min conversation to finish and then go destroy the clements beam cannon.
Now after that, the Gas Miner called Brush (or something starting with a B in its name) keeps shooting its anti fighter beam AT ME ONLY!
I avoid him, and then start taking down freighters and other ships.  The Cassius usually escapes unharmed from the area, and the sai usually doesnt make it, so when its health goes low enough, the escher will say "Sai, we are getting a power spike!!" and the game shoots to  the debreifing.  But unfortunatly, theres no debreifing!  it just says "no debrfing for this mission"

Can someone PLEASE tell  me how to beat this?

EDIT:  I am using the 1/29 CVS Build and using the -mod commands...

My only suggestion is to not press Alt-J and to not fly over to Tau Sigma Station, not that you should be doing those things anyway.

Oh, and stay more than 1500 metres away from whatever gas miner you think is targeting you and it won't be able to shoot at you 'cause you'll be out of range. Perhaps if you stop murdering innocent civilians, you won't get hit. They're rioters, for god's sake, not criminals; they're trying to get clear, they're not the threat here. Do your job and protect the Sai from the attacking fighters and bombers instead of blowing up freighters. Even if you do get the 'no debrief' bug, so long as the Sai survives you should proceed to the next mission.

Just stay close to Sai and other task force vessels and protect them, don't bother with rioters. This mission will practically resolve itself - it reaches climax without much interference and when that happens you can pretty much just look at your objective screen and fly around. That power spike is actually
Spoiler:
Nyarlathotep getting pissed off and punishing the civvies
, so if you're just randomly shot into debriefing after "Power Spike!" then the fault's with installation or something.

I'll try the Official Source Code Build, then if not, the Newest CVS Build....

Just played this mission myself, and while one gas miner did seem to want to pick on me on one occasion, I never experienced the problem again; it's a question of how you approach the mission, not a bug inherent in it.  My best advice would be, after disabling the Cassius's beam cannon, to just concentrate on the bombers attacking the Sai.  If you're getting into trouble with enemy fighters, just order your wingmen to cover you.  The rest of the mission should pretty much work itself out.

(As a side note, I'd forgotten how great this mission was; it has a fantastic atmosphere to it.  The last time I played this mission (probably several months ago), my system was doing insane stagger-steps every time I so much as looked at the rioters' blockade; the fact that it ran very smoothly now is a real tribute to the SCP coders' work since then. :))

it was definitly the CVS Build I was using because I tried it with the official SCP 3.6.7 and it worked fine...
Of course, my happiness just HAD to be ruined and the official build crashed to the desktop for no apparent reason so, back to the CVS Build...
