Does anyone know any decent drinks with gin in them that taste as little like Gin as possible? I'm setting up a home bar, and I'm somewhat obligated to buy Gin (Besides being the base for Martinis, its an ingredient in a particular drink I want to try), but I loathe the stuff as a general rule. So does anyone know of any gin drinks that aren't, you know, utterly terrible?

I'm still searching for one.
Stick to Rum ;)
-
Yes. Rum. Or Vodka. Vodka and schnapps is good. Oh, with some cranberry juice, watermellon schnapps and vodka... Soo good.
-
Plain old Gin Tonic, with ice and a lemon slice. Goes down like water.
-
Yeah I've had the one that fishguts suggested. Though I was already slogged, barely remember it.
Gin is an angry man's drink though. Better don the blue singlet before you drink that stuff IMO. ;)
BTW, Home Bar!?
1) I want one, and
2) when can I come visit / stay / move in? :p (I'm semi-serious)

the good ol' gin&tonic is what I use my gin for. except for when I drink it straight up.
my own home "bar" isn't that extensive. just a few liqueurs, vodka, gin, whiskey and saké. and a few beers for good measure.

How is sake? Always tempted to get it, but I don't wanna waste money on something bad.

I had had a few GT's at the time I tasted it, but it tasted a bit like regular white wine, tbh. maybe a bit better than I find white wine to taste. easy to drink.

Though if you order a G 'n' T you might get some funny looks from your mates..... :nervous:
My home bar is a box of becks in the conservatory....
-
I'm not quite following you.... I think there's some sexual reference in G'n'T which I'm not seeing ?
-
Not exactly... he's saying it's a girls drink.
Of course, you can choose to ignore the generalisation that women drink it more than men do and go ahead and drink it anyway.
-
Ech... hard liquor is wretched unless in very fruity drinks.

I don't think that's the case over here. and it certainly wasn't true where it originated.
-
I guess it's a country specific thing then... AFAIK here it's a drink that's strictly drunk by men with yachts and be women.
That is, of course, a massive generalisation.

Drink vodka martini's instead. If it's good enough for James Bond.... :p

You can never go wrong with Victory Gin

Read this from a one Finnish B5 fansite some time ago (when B5 was still airing here... so it's quite a long time ago actually)...
Anyway, they were trying to come up B5 drinks... here's on that includes gin.
[The Shadow]
1cl Pernold
1cl Parfait Amour
2cl Gin
Mix them up, don't shake them.
Use ice if you feel like it.
Tastes a bit like flu medicine, but manages to be ok enough to call it a decent drink.

The better ($$$) the gin, the less it tastes like juniper. Some of the 'store brand' gins out there are actually oily. Disgusting. I can't tolerate anything below Tanquerray.
If you can find it, there's a gin out there called #209 that is spectacular. It's the Don Julio of Gin, I swear. Awesome stuff.
