Only the best balance between hard and soft music ever.

Coldplay plays melancholic, crystal-clear etheric popmusic. It's grey and cold and works best in album-length doses. Otherwise it will piss you off.
Their hook works quite well, but the have gained a reputation of making too many too similar songs. Personally I like their older stuff but X&Y was somehow.... boring.

In other news, if you like Coldplay you could always give Death Cab for Cutie a go, although it's cool to piss on them because Plans was easier, better producted and more commercial in every aspect, especially in marketing.

Cold Play isnt bad...  they actually sound pretty good.  If you like them, you might wanna check out these bands:  Copeland, Number One Gun, Mae, Hey why not relient k.

Death Cab for Cutie sucks!  PERIOD!

i'm of the school of thought that coldplay sucks

if i had to compare it to anything, it'd be elevator music
and they really aren't that good, no feeling in their music from what ive listened to
and the guy's voice annoys me, reminds me of dave matthews, who sucks worse

Coldplay is something I stumbled onto this summer with X&Y.  I've since bought the other two albums.  I really like their blend of music style and instruments.  Its not graiting on the ears and its actually quire refreshing.  I find its great music to listen to in the car.  White Shadows in particular.  Just me...I like em.  I tend to favour UK groups over North American music...most of the time.  There' some good Canadian artists that I like but nobody else seems to like Matthew Good.

Parachutes > Rush of Blood to the Head + X&Y

Although Belle & Sebastian > Coldplay, anyways.

Blah, Coldplay = an experiment in how many people actually like listening to three minutes worth of rusty hinges squeaking.
They have like three good songs; everything else is filler, sounds the same, and is basically just weird. If I had to compare it to something, it'd be low budget versions of the Worms background music.
