Well, the end took a while, since I'm a bit busy right now but here it is.
The whole, 88 mission long, campaign which was originally german is now fully translated to english.
Now, you folks out there will become beta testers ^^

Once again thanks a ton for the translation, it must've taken a lot of time and no amount of small effort on your part to translate all this. :yes:
Now down to business
Found a few flaws and I'll try to pinpoint them as I can. (I'm just going by
the english here, don't know a bit of german really)
NOTE: I won't generally go into grammar (unless a sentence isn't really
understood) since I'm not grammar expert, in addition, since I can't scroll
down on the campaign breifing, I won't really correct any of those since I
can only read about 1/2 of them without the SCP. I will try to spot
spelling errors to the best of my ability.
First couple of missions:
Convoi should be convoy.
In the mission : Espionage
-The second page of the mission breifing is totally in german.
In the mssion: Making Plans
-The primary objective is in german, although it's fairly evident of what
it's supposed to be.
-Nakami says Geneis instead of Genesis. (time index 00:43 seconds)
-Asteroide field should be asteroid field (time index 00.48 seconds)
In the mission: Rebirth of a Behemoth
-First message in the mission: "We can impossibly fight two destroyers at
the same time" = Maybe change it too " We can't possibly fight two
destroyers at the same time." (I know I said that I wouldn't focus on

How sad. Makes me happy that I haven't downloaded yet. Can someone fix it pronto? Will it take a long time to fix it and make it SCP friendly? Also, maybe someone should add mods to it.

revenge was made for vanila FS2.
its not compatible with FS2_open.
but cobra had 6 or 7 weeks ago begun to work on a compatible version.
dont know if cobra work at the moment on it or if that project hold on or death.
but its a nice campain and i think you will have your fun with it, even if you play it with vanila FS2.

Im using fso 3.6.7 I belive and it worked just fine.
First mission was one of those "Shoot the astroids or you lose" missions that I swear to god I hate with a passion. Dunno, I just don't like them :/
Most of the time they are in the middle of the campiagn and I finish them just to keep going. But in this case it was put at the start so its turned me off to the whole thing pretty quick.

-In the 1st mission breifing Convoi should be "convoy" (NOTE: This is
probably the same all the way through the campaign but I'll mark it each
time I see it none-the-less)

-Just a technical note , it says "70. blue lions" should be "70'th blue lions"
maybe? (this is the very first message in mission)

NOTE: Whoever designed this level was one sadistic person, it was a
major challenge on very easy.

Bah that was supposed to be I've received something not I'm received *(we all make mistakes lol)* To be I've received something but I don't know where it's coming from. (I think that was what I meant but it doesn't matter)
I played a few more missions and now I'm going to go eat dinner so here's what I got so far.
Mission: Thurst
-Page 4: of the main breifing "whe" should be "the" in the first line
-Page 5: In the middle of the paragraph "Becaus" should be "Because"
-Page 7: "Nobody knows that caused this" should be "Nobody knows
what caused this"
-"We will put this ad acta as an.." I don't really know what "ad acta means
if it's a missed translation or if it really means something so I apoligize if
it's really something, just thought I'd point it out.
-"Nxt" should be "next"
-Page 4 of mission breifing: "belongto" should be "belong to"
Mission: Massive Defense
-Page 1 of mission breifing: "Gama" should be "Gamma"

-The sentence about "In the meantime we will refit the Marco Polo that
wern't possible when she was constructed." sounds strange. Maybe
"...perform some refits that wern't possible..."
Mission: Battle in the Altair System
-2nd page main breifing: "Basi" should be "base"
-4th page main breifing: maybe it should be "depending on your and our
successes" instead of "depending of your and our successes.
-5th page main breifing: "rom" should be "from"
-In the mission breifing/mission the 2nd primary objective is in german
NOTE: Holy crap that Quanten-G uses all my energy!
Alright Now I need some help! On mission 19 we're persuing the enemy into the jumpnode and you jump out end mission like normal. Then go to next mission and BAM, failed to load mission. No explination just mission failed to load mission 20 press OK.
Anyone able to help out? Only thing I can come up with is that it's the end of the 1st campaign part (it's a 3 parter)
but I would think it'd say campaign over etc. So effectively I'm stuck.
What I think i'll do is create another character and start the second and continue until more people get to where I am or someone can help identify this problem.

It may look that way at first but you gotta realize that the descriptions aren't correct on them all. For instance in mission 19 you get a Quanten-G but it looks like and has the wrong description in the weapon selection but it definitely acts differently. Also I like the tempest equivelant..carrying 1000+ tempests around just rocks especially when they fire faster than you can see.

well from the first mission i play in, only weapons i found was maxim and toroados.....

It's too bad that I can't play it until Cobra updates it for SCP. I hope someone does that soon so it can be used in SCP. I just can't enjoy retail anymore now that I've used SCP for so long.

Well since I can't get past lvl 20 (due to the failure to load error) in the first 1/3 of the campaign I'm going to move on to the second third. :ick:

NOTE: Who was the INSANE person that had the subsystem regen on steroids? :hopping: I tried this level 10 freaking times and I still couldn't disable the 3 maras using all my wingmen I had one mara down to 75% before they jumped out. Had to jumpout 5x.

-1st page main breifing: need a space between the period and today. ".Today"
-Odd, when this mission opens, I just crash to desktop. Tried it a few more times and same result. So I guess like in the first third of the campaign..i'm stuck on the second third as well. :mad:

Oddly enough I got lucky and clicked ready real fast, after like .5
seconds(for some reason) on the mission breifing it crashed so I didn't
read any of it and just clicked ready really fast and to my surprise...it
worked and I got in mission. (mission # 35)
Mission:? didn't catch the name cause I had to click ready, and didn't get
to look at any mission breifings.
NOTE: I must admit I've never been in a level where I've been led around
by a hygeia before.
Mission 36: Wrong Front
-In the mission breifing (incomming transmission) "sekundary" =

-some of the names of the ships are in german, just thought i'd mention it
but doesn't need changing unless you want too.

Jeez, failed to load AGAIN! Guess I'm stuck for sure now on the second
third of the game. (This playing 1/2 of a 1/3 of a campaign is starting to
grate on me. I hope someone that knows what they're doing is able to
look at these missions (20 and 44) and see if I'm the only one having
problems or if it's with the campaign itself.)
I might start on the last thrid of the campaign but I'd hate too since it'd ruin the storyline like the 2/3rd did with the first 1/3rd did.) :(

Beta testing so far:
I looked at the tables, and unless I'm mistaken, all of the changes are in the weapons and ships.tbl files in that root.vp file the campaign needs. I pulled them out and turned it into a mod and the missions play fine with the lastest CVS. However, it took me about 2 hours to track down all of the parse errors in the tables. Theres a lot of hanging quotation marks etc.
In the first mission, the campaign let me advance even though I let the freighters blow up. maybe a quick look at the goals would be in order for that mission.
I'll redownload the corrected missions and take a closer look at the translation text.
Also if/when cobra goes through the tables, he should have you translate the new weapons and ship descriptions.

meh. So is anyone already planning to go though and fix all of the events etc for the missions for SCP? I'm playing with the first mission to try to make the goals make sense and make the mission failable.

Alright, I finished the last 3rd of the campaign and had no bugs that didn't let me play the game. Now it's just a matter of time until either A) it's SCP compatable so I can see what is going wrong with the missions that won't load in the first 2/3rds of the campaign or B) someone can identify a possible problem in FRED.
Also, kudos to Turalyon for translating/fixing all this.

Try not using the SCP. Just clean install of FS2 and move/change the files as directed. What you're doing sounds like it'd take a lot more time and effort and eyecandy does not a good campaign make.

I hacked the campgain. went into the campaing editor, and deleted those missions. I'm not letting a couple of rotten missions ruin this fabulous campaign.
Also, I'm on the mission where you destroy the HoL base, the one with 2 arcaidias, and it loads normaly, but EVERY SINGLE TIME, a munite 20 seconds or so into the mission FS2 just crashes. whats going on?

Just FYI but if you type -allslev into the custom flags box in the launcher you can play any mission in the currently active campaign without needing to get around the campaign file in that way :)

I had this same problem. I think I figured out what the problem is (later in the post for the bugs/fixes for mission 25, now as to a solution to that event....I don't konw that's up to anyone out there that knows what they're doing with missions.)

I'm probably not quite there yet, but the only thing I found different in there was modified ships and weapons tables I yanked them out and made a SCP mod folder and dropped them in. I don't know what I'm doing. WEEEEEE!!!! When I get to mission 19, if it's crashing I'll see if I can figure something out.

You'd be better off looking into using modular tables so that the campaign stays compatible with FS2_Open as it improves.

This campaign was huge fun and a great storyline.

-Translation of all the names of the weapons in mission breifing and tech room.
-Some of the ship descriptions are in german in tech room..Orion II for example.

Any FS2_Open users want to test these tables? I whipped up a ships tbm, and fixed weapons.tbl as best I can... that one is so complicated I think the full table replacement is still necessary. With these two files, you don't need the replaced root_fs2.vp , so get rid of it.
Meanwhile I've sent Turalyon some fixed missions, hopefully they fix the problems with 20, 22, 44, and 59. He'll probably be updating his release file soon.

Just thought I'd respond to a few things in order.
1. Been awhile since I did that mission but the the polaris rocket (I think that's what it's called) did nothing to the mara's in the "Steal the Fighters" mission and yea I had the engines targeted..oh well I'll just redownload them all later and try it again.
2.(Fixed. And next time, put the mission name behind it )
Sometimes I don't put the mission names in because I don't know what they are (when downloading orders for instance, the mission name is different but there's no way to tell in game..I had to go to the tech room and go through the campaign missions individually to tell sometimes) and sometimes I forget (like this time)
3. Prow means front...never knew that...I just knew of fore and aft, port, stern, etc
4. And the final one: "Did you realize that you always write "breifing" instead of "briefing"?"
Actually yes and no. No because I just used the Ctrl C and Ctrl V feature so I didn't have to type it out all the time..also I was using notepad which doesn't have a spellcheck feature. Yes because I always spelled it like that...it's one of those words I get wrong like "comming" which is just supposed to be "coming" but just looks wrong to me. :drevil:

there where you identify the traidor in your team.
in this mission you meet the first time the admiral and your later supreme commander, which are on the aeolus cruiser nelson.
the nelson are on the way to meet the titan and dock with it, so that they can warp out.
but if the nelson will try to dock with the titan, the nelson blow up and the mission failed.

i have think about the campaigns and the general balance.
the orignal author, modify the laser weapons on the capitalships so, that they have a range of 6000 meters with a higher firing rate as in the orignal FS2.
but they cause any problems.
1) the balance itself; its very hard to attack a great fleet of capital ships, for the AI its the difficult really high.
2) technical problems, the game seems to have a limit for laser fire, so are many capitalships and fighters in a mission, you cant fire your primary weapons.
you got only the sound of the weapons, but no visual and no reaction on the target.
so i suggest, put down the range of the lasers to 3500m or 4000m and slow down the firerate of this weapon to 50% of that was they have at the moment.
maybe 25% but i think we have to test ist.
i think that will make the balance in mission with many capital ships better and its difficault enough to attack a ship with maxim.
and i hope that now in the big mission the limit for primary weapons will not transgression.

only with the new tables theres a bug, in the orignal in FS2 all running.
(sorry i forget to write that this problem only is with the new tables for SCP).

This did not happen to me, I just did this mission 3x to be sure using the SCP compatible version and did not have this problem. I did think it was going a bit slow and I turned up the time compression and the admiral ran into the malovelance cruiser, then corrected itself and went around it and docked with the titan like normal. Maybe it's got something to do with not destroying your turncoat wingman/beams on the enemy vasudanc corvette fast enough I dunno.

I dunno what difficulty you play on but I've beat the majority of the campaign on normal..(wait till you get to test 2 and tell me you beat it on normal with that fire rate those leviathians have and you can't choose your loadout) :mad: Just lower the difficulty if you need to I guess.
Also, I am currently playing with the new tables as well with SCP and I have made it to level 9 so far which is past the one you're having problems with.

The problem with the weapons shooting by sound but not by sight is already known. The same thing happened to me when I played Derelict.

I'm not sure whats going on but in the 'Training Phase 1' (level 6 or 7) after you destroy the drones and the cruiser and all those ARES fighters warp in I decide to run so that I can survive for the set amount of time, I recieve the message from the instructor saying you've survived for the required amount of time you can now jump out so I do so only to get a debriefing saying i've failed the mission.

When the time elapsed, you are set to invincible so you can destroy the fighters

Before you jump out, check the mission targets with the F4 Button. If the field isn't green, the mission isn't done yet

the vasudan corvette was to this time death in space, and before they was death, the beams was destroyed.
the only enemy in the sector was an enemy wing of fighters and bombers.
and then the nelson lost their 90% of the hull in 1 second and blow up.
no bombs was on the way, no beam firing, the nelson blow up and the titan warp out.

that problem isnt global, its only for missions.
if you start the next mission all is normal.
if you restart that mission you have that problem too.

i played the whole campain on december 2004, every single mission and i noticed that the balance in not every missions really smooth.
yes some missions are really nice with the difficult, some missions (later in the 3rd campaign are sometime a little bit to easy), but some missions are to heavy.
i will not say that im the best, but i have play a loot of campains and revenge is that one where i have the most time want to bite in my keyboard/joystick.
and how you noticed it a page ago, the fighter beamcannon is a little bit overpowered.
reasons (if i remember right):
1) they doent use the weaponenergy of the fighter/bomber
2) unlimited range, but definite over 3000m
3) crusiers begin to rotated (make it difficault for the weapons to hit you)
4) you can fire and fire and fire and fire ...
5) fighters/bombers are easy targets on long range
yes maybe im wrong with my suggestion to but down the range / firerate of the capital ships laser weapons, but it will dissolving some technical problems.
and for eg the missions where you attack the first lucifer with the marco polo and the andro-terraner, you doesnt can shot some.
you sit it that mission, can nothing do, only watch and cheat ...

I managed to get past the nelson mission okay though i'm still having problems with the first captain training mission (level 10, my mistake I gave the wrong level number before), I intend to try what has been reccommended here and hopefully it will work.
Ok i've followed all the advice given and unfortunately the mission still doesn't allow me to complete I destroyed all the ARES fighters, drones and the cruiser and the objective in the F4 screen doesn't turn green. :confused:

Ok well here's how i did it step by step.
I destroyed the junk drones quickly. Then the fenris went down easily enough.
When the aries fighters jumped in I killed as many as I could before the time ran out. I have not looked at the code but it might be that you have to kill a certaint # before you go invunlerable. Then while I was invulnerable I quickly killed the rest and got the ok message to jump out. If that doesn't work I dunno then.

i use the lastest CVS build, maybe thats the reason.
but if i tried to use a build later as 3/1/2006 with the new tabels the game crash, so i wonder that you can use it with so an old build :D.
to the nelson and the titan.
if the nelson dock with the titan, the nelson going down, it looks like selfdestruct, but the titan vibrate and if you make the nelson immortal the mission will end normal.
maybe theres any problem with docking a aeolus with an orion :wtf:

Actually I had a look at the mission in FRED where the Nelson docks with the Titan and there appears to be a Self Destruct SEXP for the Nelson in that mission, if you remove that the mission should progress normally once the Nelson docks.
Thanks for that Mehrpack, that is the only mission that didn't work for me but once I was able to skip past it I was able to play through the rest of Chapter 1 without any problems. :yes:

but an question: i think if there an self-destruct sexp, that will overwrite the immortal cheat, so that the ship going down?

I don't know why it was there but when I looked through the Events set for the mission it was right there :eek2: but as I said removing that entry allows the Nelson to Warp out with the Titan.

Mehrpack, I don't know if the self-destruct SEXP overrides the invulnerability cheat. What I do know is that the invulerability cheat does override the 'destroy target' cheat.

As Triple Ace pointed out mission 17 isn't loading for me either in FRED or ingame. :(

I have a temperary solution to the mission 17 problem. Get rid of the chapter 1 fc2 file, then go to mission simulator, select single missions and then you can skip 17 and go to 18. But this way you have to select all the missions for chapter 1 manually like that, but it works.

Anyway, in mission 23, I can fire the Quanten just fine. I'm having a very large amount of trouble actually SURVIVING to fire it more than twice at the Ravana :lol:
So I guess I'll need more info... you're running it under SCP? How recent a build, this month? Is your hardware worse than 256MB RAM?

the quantum gun make the game in the orignal very unstable, too.
like now in SCP.
often you fire the gun and after 5 or 10 sec. the game crach to desktop.
but sometimes you had fire 2 oder 3 times and then crash it.
the other problem, for me, is, that i havent noticed any damage of enemy ships, if i fire with the quantum.
at the moment i play the first campain again, and note any bug in the missions that i see.

hi,
i have a little bit chance the settings of the frequency and range of the turrets in the weapons.tbl.
but some turrets of the vasudans ships use in the champaing not the normal turrets, they use weapons, so is the difference to the orginal tbl not so strong like by the shivans.
i think its now a little bit better to play and theres no so much troubble with reach the weapons limit.
but i havent tested it much.
hope on feedback what you think about the chance :).

I'm running it under SCP and i'm not using this month's build. My hardware is pretty good. 2Ghz, 768 ram and 256 MB Nvidia video card. It also appears i'm not the only one having CTD problems with the quanten gun. :ick:
Also as I will post in a minute, there is a mission (30) where earth is supposed to fry these ships with beams after the tagging with a missile. This does not work as I tag them, get the message then nothing happens and I have time compressed it up to 20 mins and nothing.

yes i run it under SCP, but like i say, the problem is under FS2 and SCP(FSOpen) the same, the game crash often if you use the quantum, but sometimes not, imho in 9 of 10 tries.
build is irrelevant, it crash as i try to play revenge with FSO and the orginal table in the last summer, it crash as i play the first time revange with FS2 (christmas 2004) and it crash now with the newest builds too.
PC:Ahtlon 64 3400+, 2GB Ram, 6800GT with 256MB and a Audigy 2zs, OS: win2k.

You mean which download link?
The 1.5 MB version is for the retail version of Freespace 2. Inside the archive is a modiefied root_fs2.vp.
The 600 kb version is for Freespace SCP. It contains a ships.tbl and weapons.tbl instead of a modiefied root_fs2.vp

I'm in that mission in which you have to destroy the Helan and another ship. The beams almost make it impossible to protect the destroyers. I'll try again, but this time I'll load an Ares with all trebuchets. Also, there is an error. I fire my primaries at a target in this mission and sometimes the lasers disappear at close range before they hit the target.

that the laser disappear is no error.
the problem is, that revenge use modificated turrets on the ships.
this turrets fire so fast and over a so long range that the weaponslimit are reach and the fire of you disappear.
so i have edit the weapons-table a little bit, its post it a few post above.
so if you fight with the shivans a) the weaponlimit its so fast reach and b) the difficault isnt so high.
in a few quick test by me it has works, but i hope any other can write some for the modifications.

I think it would be nice if someone slightly remade the campaign by adding mods to it, like gigas, Amritaya, etc. Also, it is too difficult sometimes, even on easy. Someone should mess with the weapon's table and slow down the firing rate of the laser turrets. :nod:

Well, I've already edited most of it, but the only thing i haven't been able to do anything with is the jump node icon in the briefing. shouldn't it say 'Talania Sprungknoten' instead of Talania Jump Node? :)

The circulating fact is regarding to the reactors, not the weapon.

na, you have two ways, you cheat with www.freespace2.com and set nur primary weapon with ^ and 0 to BFRed (satahans beam yeah!) or you edit the chapter files so that you will start the next mission if you warp out.
but i think version one bring more fun :D.

- After Delta arrive, i dont know if Delta the reason or the enemy ships are the reason, the Terran supply ship fly in circles 1 minuten, drop the figther, fly some distance away (~ 1000m), return, repair the fighter and fly now with the fighter to the Jump Point.
If the supply ship reach the jump point, its jump out and the mission is won, but the fighter stay in the system.

This specific problem always happens when mods collide. My first guess would be that you have other mods installed and so the table files get screwed up

I fixed this long ago... you sure you have the latest pack? I notice on first post of this thread the file is NOT the updated one, it is called "Revenge_Translation.rar" but the updated file on the same website is called "Revenge-Translation.rar".
Also, I can't figure out why mission 30 has problems firing the beams from Earth (actually Mjolnirs far away) except that perhaps the Mjolnirs are out of range or "missing". I hacked at the weapons.tbl to try to increase the range of the beams but it didn't work. (They fire, but the beam still never gets to the target!) So I made a crude fix to the mission... one beam cannon is now (barely) in range, but you can see it because it's closer. Still, better than not being able to complete the mission. File is attached.

2 things:
1. The Revenge_Translation.rar is the one for the standard FS2 with the modified root_fs2.vp. In this version, all these bugs you encounter aren't there.
2. The Revenge-Translation.rar is the one for SCP.
I recently updated both of them (2 or 3 days ago). I put both files into a separate thread but I think, it got pushed down by the new threads in this forum. But you should also be able to get the fixed files from the first post in this thread

nope, i have check it, in the briefing in FRED is the class for the marco-polo not the marco-polo, its a ulysesses.
i think the orignal author doestn know that feature und doesnt choise for all mission the right class, only the right symbol for the briefing.
(if you hit the symbol in the briefing it will show you in a seperate window a 3D modell of the ship and the class, nice feature)
bugs FS2 - FSO: its seem that FSO not so failures tolerant is like FS2.
so that some bugs, doesnt show under FS2.
and i think some bugs in FS2 that are fix now, effectuate that the options other work.
maybe thats the reason why it work relatively correct but now in FSO any more.
@backslash: doesnt know that, that you had put a newer version of your tables in the archiv, ok i will download it.
to the mission 30:
if i start the mission, i see the sensor shadows of the Mjolnirs.
maybe theres out of range, but imho is the maximum range the same in FS2 and FSO (30000 meters).
but i think to chance position of the beams isnt bad idea.
i will test it if i have the time.

I am ALMOST certain that this one will work completely for both versions. The only thing in root_fs2.vp that is changed from retail is the ships and weapons tables, so all I did was extract the tables (and fix some typos).
Mehrpack is right, most of these bugs are problems with the mission files. Some 'sort of' worked with retail (but 'should not have'). I'll take a look at what I can when I have time... but the priority is to the show-stopping bugs that don't let you finish the mission ;)
btw Mehrpack, I quite like your weapons.tbl changes; I can at least survive longer now :lol:

suggestion :
1.)The naming convention for the files isn't good. rename the SCP one to revenge_translation_SCP or similar.
2.)Update the first post with a link to it. Alot of us are using the SCP you know.
3.)There are newer weapons.tbl files in page4, consider using it.
4.)Clarify if we need both the modular table backslash posted around page 2 or not. (revenge-shp.tbm)

if yes, thats not newer, its only chance some of the turrets for the capital ships, so that they doesnt fire so fast and afar like in the orginal weapon.tbl.
this table is only experimental, to find a better difficault for the campain and lower the problem with the effect that the weapon limit are reach, and so you doesnt fire with your weapons.
but, if the most people think this talbe is ok, then i think, why not add it to the file.
another thing: i had write, that i suggest to replace some of the huge turrets of the orion to replace with flaks.
i have yesterday chance the turret02a until turret05a to ( "Standard Flak" "Long Range Flak" "Standard Flak" ).
look nice, work fine and i think so the orion II serve more there name.
but i havnt the time to test it in the campaign, that it doesnt chance the balance to much, but i think itsnt fall.

Yes, okay, well this campaign is bloody hard, so I'm happy with an easier weapons.tbl.
There are some problems still in most missions during the briefing where the ships on the map have german names still.

the mission in which the Lucifer jumps in has a problem. You have to protect the Malevolence and Andro cruiser, but the lucifer's beam turrets fire on both of them, making it impossible to protect them because it is invulnerable and you also can't destroy the turret. Funny that the beam turrets on this Lucifer have the same graphical design as the FS1 ones.

if yes, normaly the lucifer will fire on the androterraner station and destroy it and will not attack the cruiser and the malevolence, if my memories are correct.

Anyway, if someone has the script for this game written in a text file, let me know. I'd be happy to go over it and correct and rephrase the english so it makes more sense. Currently some of the phrasing is grammatically correct, but it's not how an english speaker would phrase it (the "babelfish" effect, so to speak) and I'd be happy to go over all the briefings and correct them (I'm from england originally, and i've lived in the US for 20 years, so I can give it the correct Kings English approach while keeping american spellings)

The modular table I posted earlier was before I finished fixing up the full ships.tbl file. At this point you don't need the modular table.

Yeah. On 2 of the training missions, you can't proceed because no matter what, you can't satisfy the objectives.
What 2 missions? I just tried them again and I beat them all *even that really hard one where you have to beat 2 leviathans and one fenris..or 3 leviathans. Although I have not downloaded an updated version in awhile. The first 3 training missions are pretty hard...the last one (bombing run one) is pretty easy and I actually had to work to lose it...like running into a ship as it jumped in.

Doing my best to help with the progress-obstructing bugs, but some of these I can't reproduce, including the training missions problems. Do try an April CVS if you can.
Mission names and/or numbers would help a lot -- as I've been hopping around not in campaign order testing stuff, "that mission when the support ship in the nebula" etc is kinda hard to remember or track down.
Please test the problem missions with this: http://www.qeyleb.net/files/Revenge.rar I've fixed quite a few things but it's by no means complete, and I forget which particular files I fixed so I packed everything up. Work still in progress, of course. Unzip to your Revenge folder (or a new folder, for testing). You don't need ANYTHING else in your Revenge folder. The techroom and -allslev is your friend.

2 things.
1. I DL/ed and am using the latest CVS build for the SCP (April 20something one) and it has stopped some of the random crashes in some of the missions I noted.

This is a kickass campaign. The fact it has 88 missions is pretty much out of control.

This is probably a little too nit-picky...But some of the weapon names and damage ratings aren't translated in the loadout screen. Some of the weapons are obvious and don't need to be translated, but it would help on some of the newer guns and missiles to know the names and how much damage they do.

It's just kinda guess hit and miss. I've done this campaign 3x and I still don't know what all the weapons do. Although 2x beam cannons is just a waste.

Hi, Finally I've just downloaded this mod (Backslash's version) and started playing with it and I've noticed what can be a FSOpen bug.
In the first mission, where you escort Freighters through an asteroid field, the dialog says that BETA WING is supposed to cover freighters from asteroids while you attack Sentry Guns. But with newest FSOpen builds the ships that are guarding any other ship doesn't engage incoming asteroids, (I've also checked with FSPort's sixth mission where you protect GTD Galatea with Alpha 2).
I don't have retail FS2 anymore so I can't check if this is the right "official" behaviour. Please, can anyone check this within Retail? (Just command all ships to protect the first freighter and look what happens).
(If this is finally a bug, maybe this can be also related with a bug about the performance drop within the asteroids storms I mantised and Backslash, among others, has been working about).

Confirmed, retail does make guarding wings engage asteroids. And :lol:, they go at it like maniacs, launching ALL their missiles like crazy. Ok, if this isn't Mantised already, go ahead and do so. I don't think it's related to the bug I'm looking at; that just involves calculation of time-to-hit, which turret code uses, and the targetbox showing "Impact in 5.7 s". But who knows, I'll double check. Pretty busy this week though.
Why is it that quite often, in the 4th mission of Chapter one where you bring Makami to the Titan, the Nelson docks with it and it self destructs? I looked in the events and it said that the Nelson disabled itself when it docked then it self destructed. What is going on here?
Well you kinda answered your own question... for some reason there's an event that says self destruct. Remove it (you can even do this with Notepad) and it works fine as far as I can tell.
I was just flying the mission called conference. I think it is #23. Problem is, this time around, no matter what, the loadout screen only gives me an extremly fast Ulysses and no weapons as a choice. This won't work. Even when the support gives me weapons after it docks with me. This ship choice isn't good for this mission and is only meant for the Andro Terrans. I know this is a mission problem because the other missions give me weapons and ships. Can someone fix the event progression errors and this mission's error pronto or do we have to wait to see if Turalyon comes back first? :nervous:
Conference is mission 22a. Sorry, can't reproduce this problem -- the loadout screen works fine for me in this mission. Please double check that you do NOT have the root_fs2.vp in your Revenge mod folder, and that you do have ships.tbl and weapons.tbl in Revenge\data\tables but NOT Freespace's data\tables. (Your mod folder name may vary.) And if you have already tried all this, sorry, I hope not but it might be a pilot bug. Just in case, post (attach) your 022a-Revenge.fs2 file, maybe yours is messed up somehow.

Found another bug...(You must be getting sick of this)...In the mission Hold Position (I can't think of the number), the Sathanas jumps in. I go to disarm its forward beams, but when I destroy the first one, it dumps me back to the desktop. I'm not entirely sure what's causing it...

The easiest way to set up your mod folders is to make the mod folder in the root directory. Mine is C:\Games\Freespace2\RevengeFC. Then extract the .RAR archive into that directory. Go into the FSOpen launcher, click the "Mods" tab, and select the mod folder from the list. Click Apply then Run and you're set.

Souns like you're doing it right. You select the mod folder Revenge (or RevengeFC, whatever you name it), not data. There will be no mod description displayed because we don't have a mod.ini, but that's ok. If someone would give me a "blurb" couple paragraphs of description of the campaign, and/or a small logo, I can make a mod.ini for us.
The only two folders in the Revenge\data folder that are essential are missions and tables. (When you play, two more folders -- players and cache -- will be automatically created.)

Me neither... this campaign has a few CTDs that don't make sense. The most frustrating ones are the ones that aren't consistent, or that others can't reproduce. Like this one :p Just finished it myself no problem. Try an April CVS build if you haven't yet.

The author of Revenge replaced existing weapons in the weapons table to make these two -- the Morning Star and the Prometheus Retrofit, which are the Quantum Gun and the Blackstar respectively. I think they forgot to change the label in the weapons loadout.
The Quantum is your default weapon in mission 19. Heh, so is the Blackstar, what a good way to test.
Funny thing: the Blackstar does more damage in the same amount of time (constant fire) as it does for the Quantum to fire once. I wonder if I should bump it up some? (or bump the Blackstar ROF down, it's ridiculously fast...)

Am I the only one who is finding one of the first missions incredibly hard? It's the one where you guard Omicron wing of hippocrates ships. Protecting them from bombers and fighters is not a biggie, but when the cruiser shows up, it all goes down: The cruiser fires its forward beams at Omicron 1, vaporizing it in seconds. I start firing trebuchets at the turrets, but there are so many that the cruiser can bring another shot to bear and take about 50-70 % off of Omicron 2. Even if I get the beam guns before the last ship is killed, my inept teammates can not protect it until I'm done disarming the cruiser. Everything blows up.
EDIT: After getting ONE ship merely out alive, the mission was failed?! I cheated it through, the rest of the campaign is fantastic! I love all of the new weapons and techs. Nice beam cannons, although I still think that bombing is kind of hard because the "blob" guns have an insane rate of fire. Well, atleast we have better bombs.

Hmm vell ok I dont know if this is really a bug with the campaign or with Freespace 2 Vanilla....
The problem I have is that the text before the actual brefings (dont know what its called) seems to be to long and I cant view all of it so I dont know what it says (there are no arrowes on the side of it either).
one more thing I checked the missions with FRED and there seems to be alot of ingame chatter that isent being used.

Just finished the campaign, all I can say is WOW this was deffinetly one of the best campaigns I have ever played (filled with bugs but still) this could easily have been Freespace 3.

Edit: I tried the May-something CVS, and it solved it. However, the next mission gives errors, but not with the older build. *Sigh*... I got tired of switching builds while playing Derelict!

Which May build? The May 9th one should be the most stable build released recently but the other builds from May are going to be a lot less stable since there is a fair bit of new code in them.

make sure you're running the freespace2_open version. There are 2 versions - one is revenge_translated.rar and the other is revenge-translated.rar. second one is SCP version.

Im having problems with the mission where you escort the admiral :(
I get all the way to the end, and twice the admiral's ship has exploded shortly after docking with the orion ship... if I warp out I get the 'didn't complete mission message' :(

thats a bug in the mission itsself.
theres a self-destruction SEXP in the mission, thats the reason why the nelson exploded.
imho can you find here in the topic an fixed version of the mission, or you search in fred forself in the mission for the SEXP and delete it.

Ok, I lopped the self destruct sexp and all is well... but now on the first of the training missions I get through to the end and the instructor says that I'm invuln and I can jump - but if I jump it says I failed?! I see it mentioned in this thread but no difinitive fix/workaround other than to tweak the mission in fred?

sorry i havnt the skill for fred to fix that mission.
but you can edit the chapter file and set it so that it will load the next mission if you failed (theres another mission too, they tell you that you failed but you win it).
its the easy way to shipping that bug.

OK, I'm up to the "hunt for the devil" mission but for some reason after a while my weapons stop firing. I can still hear the sounds, and the energy/ammo levels drop as if they were still working. It's evident in 3.6.8, Kara's May 17th CVS build and 3.6.9 RC1... is this being caused by the custom weapons?

the engine has a limit to render 320 (?) weapons/bullits/rockets at the same time.
are more weapons in the game as the limit is, the engine drop the other weapons.
that the reason why you hear your weapons but see nothing.
i have postet a long time ago in this thread a edit table for weapons.
so that the fire frequency are lower and they havnt so much range.
that have 2 advantages:
first: you doesnt reach the weaponslimit
second: the campain is a little bit easyer

ah, yeah that mission is really full with ships and weapons.
i think lower the weapons of the captialsship will not really help, theres are to much fighters and weapons on the way, imho the only way is to rebalance the mission and lower the fighters.
but my table help a little bit, as i play it with the orignaltable the mission weapons was a little bit more, as with my modif table.
the other way is, to ask the dev, if it possible to set the weaponslimit higher.
because i think other missions/mods with many ships, fighters and weapons, will have the same problem.
but i dont know how difficault is it, to set the weaponslimit higher.

my table help there for that problem.
i had hope and think that my table remove the problems with the limit complet, but ok that was wrong.
but the table help definitely in the most mission, exactly if many capital ships in a mission, so you havnt so much trouble with the limit.
but with fighters, i cant handle, theres are the only the other two ways.
rebalance the mission or mayme the rise of the weaponslimit.
Edit: mhh maybe its the flak of the andro-terraner.
if i slow they a little bit down, maybe its enaugh that the mission will work better.
but if i slow they down and put the range slower but that will chance the balance.
Edit 2: so i chance a little bit the flag, i have try to hold the damage per second on the same to the old variant.
but i think it doesnt help much, but maybe im wrong.

Before I begin, I would like to say that whoever made this campaign certainly put a lot of work into it, and I am not trying to insult them or make them in any way mad at me. Also, I am sure that there are a lot of people who enjoyed playing it more than I did.
I quit before completing the first mission. Why, you ask? Because I failed. Also, there's too much character development! This is FreeSpace, there isn't supposed to be character development. The player has no history, and therefore, anyone can fill his shoes and not have to try to morph their mentality to fit the character they've been given. Having a revenge theme also discouraged me, and I may not be the only one. Or I might be, I don't know. My point is that, although the Shivans are inherently "evil," and the HoL are willfully assisting them, not everybody wants to have to play an 80 mission vendetta campaign.

Normally I would agree with High Max that this is too picky, but I have to agree in this case -- the asteroid field density is set ridiculously high, and the Tritons are idiots. And the second mission is only slightly more forgiving. Me, if I had just those two missions for a first impression, I'd have trouble wanting to continue... but it got much better after that.
The campaign has very impressive mods and stuff for being only retail-compatible table modifications. Some of the missions are much less polished than others, but some are downright awesome (though, some would argue, Battle-of-Endor-Syndrome). Eh, the revenge storyline is a little silly, but it's a nice change from Faceless Alpha 1 whom Everyone Talks Around :p
I want to help release a 'completely fixed' version someday, with balance tweaks and bugfixes, but I'm working on too many other things right now...

Revenge is a must have campaign.. the weapons alone.. i definately dont' consider it definitive.. but 80 more missions, and new weapons ? that's worth it.

i think to make a sequel as not orginal author isnt so easy.
the other thing is the which characters, the develpoment of the characters.
then the techicals side, imho, i think all ships need to have shields, if you fellow the beging development in revenge but the shields are not so easy in fs2.
but yes a sequel will be nice.

i doesnt put down the frequency to normal / FS2, i only lower it a little bit, so that the weaponscap isnt reach so fast and its a little bit easier.
but i doesnt chance it back to normal (i think if that, the campain will not so good).
you can use that table of my space.
its the same, the only other thin is there, that i chance the frequency of the andro-terran flak-cannon, so that its so fast reach the weaponcap in mission 50.

Table error. Simplest fix is to go into your data folder and rename the "tables" folder to "1tables" or something like that.

also i think mission 4 or 5 (its the one where you escort three hospital ships) is not done properly in briefing it says you can lose 2 ships and when but the vasudan cruiser will atleast one ship will die no matter wat you do, and the mission fail if you lose any ship

but you cant make the ship really fast, because you cant fly it really good.
and the AI get problems with fast ships.

The number is NOT the number of ships that need to be destroyed but rather the percentage of those present in the mission that needs to be taken out.
So the first mission requires that you kill 20% of the fighters\bombers present and the second mission requires that you take out all of the cruisers present as well as 98% of the fighters\bombers (Which is probably all of them!). It's possible that the second event isn't coming true due to maths errors when rounding up. What happens if you change the 100 into 99? What happens if you change the 98% to a lower number (98% seems too high. Unless you have 100 ships in the mission you'll never acheive that cause both yourself and the instructor are going to be in fighters too).
There is a reported MANTIS bug for the ship-type-destroyed SEXP but it shouldn't be affecting this particular SEXP. I'll take a look at it if my suggestion doesn't fix it.

theres a bug in the mission after you and marco polo jumps to andromeda and then needs to capture shivan cargo containers, the game automatically quits after exactly 155 seconds and shows no error report wat so ever, and i cant figure out the problem. i downloaded from the link posted by high max

I believe one of them is SCP compatible (the first one, i think). You should go back and read through the whole thread.

I didn't fix that Marco Polo bug myself so I don't know if I have that file, but I'll take a look and put together the rest of what I have. I'm busy with a lot of stuff but I'll see if I can.
Once we've got a somewhat 'finished' version, hades-combine or someplace similar would probably be the best place to put it.

In some Missions there is no "Marco Polo" but a Ulysses instead of it. Furthermore in some missions I got no primary weapons, waht makes it really hard to survive...

The bit in my FAQ refers to solving the problem for retail FS2 not campaigns but it should give you enough to identify the cause at least.
I'm playing a mission but instead of the ship I'm expecting I just get a Ulysses fighter.
This is the result of installing a mod that alters the ships table. Although it can occur for any missing ship it is most noticeable when the affected ship is supposed to be a giant capship. The game goes to the ships table expecting to find a certain type of ship but can't find it cause the mod has replaced or removed that ship from the ships.tbl. When FS2 can't find a ship on the table it replaces it with the first ship on the table which in most cases is a Ulysses.
Fortunately the ships.tbl merely tells the game where to look for a ship so the ship hasn't actually been deleted Curing the problem requires that you find the mod causing the problem and renaming/moving it.
Go into your Freespace2\data\tables directory and check for a file called ships.tbl. If it exists rename it file to something like disabled-ships.tbl
If that doesn't solve your problem or you find no file by that name (It may be hiding else where in your FreeSpace 2 folder) your problem is most likely a rogue .vp file.
The Official .vp files have the following names
* root_fs2.vp
* sparky_fs2.vp
* sparky_hi_fs2.vp
* stu_fs2.vp
* tango1_fs2.vp
* tango2_fs2.vp
* tango3_fs2.vp
* smarty_fs2.vp
* warble_fs2.vp
You may not have them all but if you have any .vp files other than these in your FS2 folder it is likely that this is the cause of your problem. Try renaming the extra .vp files to .vpDisabled or something similar or simply move them out of your FS2 folder (or into a new subfolder)
That will solve your problem but it won't stop it from reoccurring next time you install a mod. It also means that the mod that caused the problem will stop working properly. The problem is that you didn't install the mod correctly in the first place.

I tried like you described. I have only installed derelict and Revenge, which are now in seperate folders in the FS 2 folder. But even now the Marco Polo is a damn Ulysses :mad:
I checkes the data folder under FS 2. There is a subfolder called "tables" but it´s empty. I have no other .tbl´s found. What shall I do now??

I solved it. I just downloaded the newest english version, which includes new (?) ships.tbl and weapons.tbl. I copied these tbl. in my Revenge-folder and I saw the Marco Polo for the first time...

I was not able to get the mobile beam weapon working with the SCP version. Anyone else experience this? I like it's overpowered effect in non-SCP version.
