http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/gameplay.html#online

That and the link on that page to Game-Warden should answer both questions. The ports for IP and FS2NetD are the same as far as I know.

I don't even bother with online play. No one is ever on and when they are it is laggy as hell.

From what I understand he's already got some friends lined up :) And I bet they'll have real good fun too.

Yup got things working now with the virtual lan software Hamachi :), though nothing works online with any of the 3rd party scp builds, tried atleast 8 version , get the message buffer overflow when my friend connects, but he can connect as an observer though.

anyway, Original 1.2 patch works so we will try to kick some arse with that :)

SCP tends to crash unless you both enter each other's IP addresses regardless of whether you are hosting or not.

Yep. Most people make the mistake of only entering the host's IP address on the clients. That should be all you need to do but FS2_Open repeatedly crashes if you try it on some builds.

Probably the main reason multi isn't so popular at the moment. It's cumbersome. I bet once it's all worked out without bugs, table problems or specific needed builds, and all you have to do is press a button to get to an MP lobby to look for games or type in a server IP for a direct game, a lot of people will be trying it out regularly. Granted, I know that's a long long way and a lot of networking manpower off, but I have faith than some day it'll get there. And when it does, I will cheer.

Scratch that, I'll play some games, then cheer :)

Got retail coop Freespace 2 working with hamachi working fine with a mate with next to no lag, no need to enter ip's or anything :)

SCP seems to be a different kettle of fish though  :blah:

hey this hamachi thing looks like we can rig somthing up for FS Open Multiplayer...  check it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.hamachi.cc/

you can do a LAN game OVER the INTERNET (No LAN required).....
LANs are much easier to configure than IPs and such....  Imagine playing FS Open over an Internet LAN!!!!!

Guys we can get this working!!!

As for Fred not getting his FS Open to work over a LAN, I wonder if he had the Multiplayer Config file installed and the launcher (retail and Open) configured....

Worked fine here with hamachi  :), also with fs open by adding my friends ip on the hosting machine , and my friend added the hosting machine ip on his machine...

There was a thread about it a little while back. It definitely works with retail. If it doesn't work with FSO try entering IP addresses for all computers involved and it should work there too.
