The explosion could use particles and a bright center. The engine glows look very cool, but aren't X-Wing lasers bright red?

That X-Wing needs a tactical update. Unless it's shooting at a turbolaser or tractor beam, I'd say it should aim for the shield generators  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

LOL Makes me think back to a few years ago when XWA came out and I first started DeathAngel Squadron (b4 we moved to FS2). Man I tell ya,..some fun missions in those days especially after we got our hands on the custom mission editter  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Still nothing like taking out a pair of ISD 2s with nothing but a wing of X Wings  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I don't think XWA is that old lol (XWA gots the most ridiculous capship explosions ever, btw, shame on LucasArt for that)
on the first pic, give the spheres you used 50% self illumination and transparency falloff, will look better (that's how i was doing my explosions before  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) )

Ships usually break up as they explode, you might want to try playing with that to make them a bit better.  Different angles would be nice as well.

I agree. Maybe you can make the wings of the X-Wing break off in different directions and the cockpit canopy bursting outward with additional flames coming out from there, suggesting that the pilot of the X-Wing met a fiery death.

And turn on anti-aliasing!  That'll get rid of all the jaggies!

Why don't you do a render of a TIE Defender chasing an A-Wing??? Lasers flying...a Star Destoyer and a Mon Calamari cruiser having a slugfest in the background too....

Is that too much?? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

no anti aliasing cause volumetrics take long enough to render as it is but  more angles and more ships aren't to much to ask - i'm doing an x-wing being chased by a tie interceptor low over the hull of an isd
