just trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong here. I get End Game part 1 cutscene just fine after jumping out of capella in the last mission. I do not however get either endgame 2a or endgame 2b. I have movies in avi format in the data/movies folder. All other movies work fine. Main campaign also does not end, just repeats the final mission. Am I doing something stupid or did I find a bug?
-
Well, well...I have the same problem. I haven't tried this on the latest build though. I'm not really about sure of the "repeat the final mission", is it supposed to go that way...?
-
The main campaign is supposed to kick you out to the main hall at the end but allow you to go back and play the last mission again. It would be rather unfair if after getting blown up you couldn't play the mission and complete it properly after all.
-
Hmmm, that's what I thought myself. Anyway, what about the Endgame 2a/b not showing up ?
-
A: - DivX 6
B: - disabled by command line
C: - Using SCP and don't have them in avi
(BTW, I know that some people reading this are intelligent or experienced enough to know a few of these, so its not intended to patronise anyone, just provide all possibilities.)
-
Not, its right the endpart2a/endpart2b is not played afer the endpart1.... and if you try to play the file from the techroom its say "Unable to play...."
-
I've never had this problem. I'll have to test with the current CVS build, though. One thing I would note is that I don't have DivX installed. I use the Xvid codec. It handles DivX on its own. Though the copies of all the cutscenes I have are ones I've converted by myself. I'd put them up on the web, but I don't have any hosting that would let me put them up, even though they came out smaller in filesize than the original mve files.
-
A: Using DivX 5.0.2
B: C:\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_r-P420060224.exe -mod Mediavps -spec -glow -jpgtga -mipmap -nomotiondebris -2d_poof -noscalevid -cache_bitmaps -missile_lighting -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -nobeampierce -ship_choice_3d -3dwarp -warp_flash -snd_preload -tga16 -ambient_factor 90 -y_bug_fix
"-nomovies" is not in that list.
C: They're all in avi.
The fact that I got the first end movie negates A, B, and C. I can view endgame2a and endgame2b externally without a problem.
-
yes I have the same exact problem and all the cutsceens were working before hand. The bastion movie before the last mission was fine but as soon as the mission ended, it would play the movie where the shivan jugernauts destroyed cappellla then id be in the main hall. When i opened the techroom it would list endgame 2a/2b and when i clicked on them it would say unable to play. These movies are in the same avi format as the other movies. So therefor it doesn't make sence that it wouldn't play unless there was something wrong with the code of the game.
-
Ok, digital video 101. .avi is NOT a format in and of itself. It is a container. I could have an MPEG encoded avi as easily as a DivX, if not easier.
You should get the Xvid codec because not all the movies for FS2 were converted to DivX. Some used Xvid.
-
so what you are saying is that the end movies that we downloaded is in a diffrent format then the othermovies from the same site. Well where can we get the endmovies in proper format?
-
sooooooooooooooooooo... If I can play the end movies in ANY player on my computer just fine except for when they're supposed to play after the last mission in the main campaign, it's the codec?
-
The original avi set which I made for FS2 and released are all in XVid format IIRC. The newer set which TurboNed made are also all in XVid format. The only place you'll get a mixture of the two formats is with the FS1 cutscenes where you'll have a mixture of movies converted by me and some converted by Sandwich (amongst others probably).
You can always check the format of your movies with G-Spot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/)
-
OK Verified with G-spot.
All of my .avi movies are in XVid.
All of my .avi movies play when they're supposed to inside freespace open EXCEPT for endpart2a.avi and endpart2b.avi.
I can play ALL .avi movies INCLUDING endpart2a.avi and endpart2b.avi in winamp and windows media player with no problems.
Sooo... MANTIS?
-
Yep. Sounds like a code problem to me.
-
That they don't work in the techroom either indicates that it's not a basic code issue, if other movies in the techroom do work. And they do work fine for me btw, in the techroom at least. I haven't tried end-of-campaign testing yet.
There are only three cases that it should give you the "Unable to play..." message: 1) You are running the standalone server and not an actual game, 2) You are running with -nomovies, 3) The movie can not be found on the disk. I suspect it's number 3. Make sure that you have the filenames correct, endprt2a.avi and endprt2b.avi, with no "a". Make sure that cutscenes.tbl hasn't been modified and that all of the movies are in the same folder. Also try moving the movies to the root game directory and see if it does anything different.
-
DivX handles Xvid? *blink blink*
Weird. Personally, I install Xvid and let it handle DivX instead.
-
I can confirm that endprt2b doesn't display on my system either. Crazy idea to perhaps test whether it is a code bug:
Temporarily move endparta to another folder. Take one of the cutscene files that work, duplicate it and rename it endprt2a (same with b). Test that in the techroom.
Related, only sort of... any ideas why the sound no longer plays in cutscenes for me? I have OpenAL and ffdshow installed, and the cutscenes have MP3 sound. Suggestions of things to try?

Well, they show up in the techroom, they just don't play. FS says "unable to play movie..."
as to the three cases you mentioned:
1) I am not running a standalone server, I'm playing single player campaign. This would affect other movies throughout the campaign, which it has not. All other movies work just fine.
2.) I verified my launcher6.ini file and the checkboxes in the launcher to insure that no hanky-panky was occuring and -nomovies is not present anywhere, so it's not an accidental flag. Again this would cause no movies to play. The rest play fine.
3.) I have my movies in my mod mediavps/data/movies folder. All movies are present and accounted for...
AH HA!
The downloaded movies are named endpart2a.avi. Note that I downloaded these from the karajorma's faq link and directly unpacked them to their present location. If anyone else has this problem, they probably have the same misnamed files from the compressed download that I have.
I must have read your post 6 times before my brain stopped automatically adding the 'a' to the filename you wrote. It didn't sink in until I chacked the cutscene.tbl file and saw the vowel deficient name there.
-
Yep. Just checked and the versions in the rar files are misnamed. Strangely enough the versions I have installed are not. I've got no idea how on earth that could have happened but I'll pass the message on.
-
When I first installed SCP, and the SCP compatible movies, I got audio, but no video (to be exact, I got a black screen). I could, however, play the movies in Windows Media Player, or Nero's video player.
I downloaded, and installed Gspot, and was unable to render the videos. Gspot identified the movies as being done using Xvid, so I downloaded, and installed, the Xvid codec. After installing, Gspot could render the videos. Now, however, I get the following error message, when the latest CVS build (1 March 2006) tries to play a cutscene:
PlayWnd Sample
FAILED(hr=0x887601c2)in pMC->Run() (DShow error)
I did not get this error message before installing the Xvid codec. Is there another codec I should be using?
-
Do other builds play it? Which version of xVid did you install?
-
I installed the latest version of Xvid (version 1.1), direct from the Xvid website.
I have used 2 versions of the CVS builds (the 2/6/2006 build, and the 3/1/2006 build). Without Xvid, I get audio from the cutscene movies, but no video. With Xvid 1.1 installed, I get the before mentioned error.
-
I get audio from the cutscene movies, but no video.
This is a bug in DivX. Uninstall the DivX toolbar and it should work.
-
Or, uninstall DivX and just have Xvid. Xvid handles DivX rather well.
-
I get audio from the cutscene movies, but no video.
Heh. I get video from the cutscene movies, but no audio. I've tried both ffdshow and Xvid so far, and many builds since January to March... anyone have a suggestion of what else to try? The audio in the avi is just mp3...
