Trek is invading the forums! Burn him!
If thats just a render you made, its rather dull. But if you made that model, I like it! Much better than I'll ever be able to do

Never a fan of the original series, but that looks about right (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Ok, so what does NX-01 have to do with that?
-
NX-01 is the new-to-our-time (2001), first-to-the-Trek-universe Enterprise, in the latest Trek series. NX is supposedly an experimental designation, so I guess it works.
Nice ship, Carl, but the bussard collectors should be glowing a bit. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

yes i did make the model, and it is several tens of thousands of polygons from what i can remember. i used my physical model along with pics of the original to make it as accurate as i can, and the perspective does make the proportions look different, but i can assure you that this model is very accurate. the bussard collectors don't glow because the use a glass reflectency, which cannot support ambient glow. this render is just to show off my model. when i get a nice klingon ship i'll make a battle render (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Heh, that's probably better quality than and ToS shots. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Bussard collectors? i don't see any, or they've drastically... "recreated" them...
-
wha? the bussard collectors are the little red things on the front of the necelles.
-
I still think they should release a version of some TOS episodes where they redo the effects (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

? Theyre there...
Maybe youre thinking of the ones on the newer ships?
-
No: real bussard reactor looks like huge (I mean hundred of meters wide) grids used to collect hydrogen in the space. How can such a ridiculously small thing pick up the amount of hydrogen needed for the ship, when there's less than one Hydrogen molecule per dozen of meters cube?
-
Because back in the ToS days those weren't Bussard Collectors, they're Psycedelic Glowing Thingies™. And in fact (fiction?), the ST collectors work by throwing out a big magnetic field, instead of using an actual physical collector 'framework'.

And think about the size of the ship as well..
Its pretty darn (CURSE YOU THUNDER) big...
That thing is supposed to have a crew of 5 or 6 hundred...

a big magnetic field that attracts hydrogen? whoa cool (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Not just hydrogen, anything it can suck up...
It converts the hydrogen to deuterium for fuel, and everything else is either ejected as waste, or used for other ship systems (replicators, etc) (its sad that I know this much about ST)

that's just basic for me.

whoa, that's magic (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
anyway: how does the new one looks like? someone has a pic?
-
(http://www.startrek.com/launch/images/enterprise_beauty.jpg)
yes, that is 100 years before the original series (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
-
hey, it's not that bad! mmh, yeah, for "ST, the next new generation" (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
-
And it looks like something from late-Voyager (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
The Akiraprise, they call it. Great Enterprise model, BTW. Though I always thought the original looked a bit like a constipated ostrich (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

289m is big?
-
You're WAAAYYY too used to the scales in FS. 290 meters is huge. Most aircraft carriers are under 400 meters to put it in perspective.
-
Just for reference, the Enterprise-D is only 641 meters long. The Enterprise-E is slightly longer than that...closer to 680 or 690..give or take 30 meters.
