Title: Dr. Who comes to the U.S.
Post by: Jetmech Jr. on March 03, 2006, 09:21:59 pm
March 17 (or maybe 16, I forget which), I finally get to see the show that's got all you Brits so excited.

So, what should I expect.

It kicks serious ****ing ass in every way imaginable.

The pilot isn't great, but it's good. The rest of the series is pretty much universally amazing though.

Episode 6 and the Finale are the high-points.

Not at all. You'll understand soon enough.

But yeah. It's awesome.

Excellent characters
Original storylines
An air of mystery
A main hero who doesn't solve problems by shooting people
Proof that sci-fi doesn't need 2 million dollars an episode to convey the story

Need I go on? :)

Oooh, I've changed my mind.

The second episode is by far the best, purely for the setting and Jabe.

Wow...for once Canada gets sci-fi TV shows before the US does.

Great series...I'm liking it.  Its definately British but I'm enjoying connecting with my cultural heritage.

Am I the only one who doesn't like Dr. Who at all?

Don't expect to see an American style Sci-Fi show. Brit Sci-Fi is rather different.

Expect pretty much what Maeg describes.

So is this like BSG, meaning that it's a re-imagined series?  I thought I remembered seeing something regarding Dr. Who way back when I was in middle school as an old series... ??

So... is it gonna be the same show? Or is it gonna be like 'The Office', where the brittish version is hillarious, but the US version has ****ty b-actors and isn't as good?

HUSH! The American version of The Office is hilarious, and I am extremely attached to it. Nothing against the British version, but I started with the American one, so that's the one I like better.

There's the notion that the Doctor has a darker past than was alluded to in the old series', but it still has the old dynamic to it. The most major change is that most of the adventures have become self-contained, single episodes, rather than the huge spanning arcs of the old ones.
