Title: hello!
Post by: meezoid on March 07, 2006, 07:05:54 pm
oh my god, this place is ace (if a little confusing)....

i was a big big fan of Freespace and Freespace 2, and every now and then I reminisce about those halcyon days and start trawling the net looking for FS3 news etc... I gave up on this a few years ago and instead started hoping just that somebody (ANYBODY) would release a new space sim...

having given up on the idea of anyone doing anything for xbox (battlestar galactica was wanky, sorry), i googled "PC Space Sim" and found a wiki entry about the death of the space sim genre.  Freespace was cited as the pinnacle of that genre, so I found myself reading through the wiki entry for Freespace (which is excellent, except for the link to Sol: A History which i guess has never seen the light of day?)

anyway, I have found my way here....  I think i had stumbled across this forum before awhile back but not realised its significance or something.

so hi!

After an hour or so reading bits and bobs from here, i've come to the conclusion that what i need to do to rekindle my FS2 adventures is reinstall my dusty old copy and download FS2open.

I've got to say though, it's a bit tricky trying to work out what to do just from browsing through this site - might it not be an idea to have a link somewhere on the index explaining what someone like me needs to do to get involved?  Or is there already one and i've just missed it?

Anyway, the other thing i wanted to ask is; have any of the mods/campaigns discussed in the forums seen the light of day?  I see that some are listed as "complete" but i can't find any reference to em anywhere else.  If they are complete are they available?  If so where can i get em?

Right, off to bed.  Just wanted to say hello really.

:)

:welcome:

Insert Spiel Here.

S:AH was released, long ago. If search worked I'd direct link you. Someone here should have the link. I think it's on Hades Combine.

Welcome aboard... you just wait till you see what they've done with BSG and FS2 ;) It's actually getting hard to tell the difference between in-game shots and in-series shots.

Installing the SCP can be confusing, theres lots to install, your best bet is, first, to download the SCP Torrent thats posted elsewhere in here by ShivanSPS, though you might have trouble with a file called 'Ships.tbl', it seem to be causing a few people problems, but at least then you will have a large percentage of what is needed to get the best out of FSO.

Once you've got that, please feel free to come back and ask questions. Even I get confused about the amount of builds/Media packs etc about, so we will be more than happy to help if we can :D

Most of all, enjoy, FS2 was an awesome game, and SCP makes it 10x awesome-er :nervous: ;)

You can either download ShivanSPS' all in one solution or follow the guide in my FAQ on how to install FS2_Open (Which requires a little more thought but saves you the hassle of downloading a torrent which is about 50% stuff you can get off the FS2 disks).

If you're confused as to what to do the first one is probably the better of the two and you need only look at my install guide when you start installing mods on FS2_Open.
