Well, not that big, but big enough, I think... (It'd be ~106m x 92m x 28m when done)

Intended to have 12 gunpoints, 1 possible micro beam, 4 missile banks and 7 turrets (hence name, Hydra)
Still needs detail (ie inserts for the red glowly bit, the current red stuff is mainly there so you can see the curret details) but I want to make sure I'm making it 'Shivan' enough...
-
Thats like a seraphim on crack. Why not make the missile banks into missile turrets and just call it a gunboat?
I'd put a microbeam on primary, 1 secondary bank with bombs, and then just give it gun and missile turrets for the rest.
As for shivan, the wings look a little to winglike. It say make them look more bug like or fin like, but otherwise I like the engines and triangle in the nose. very shivan.
-
What class of ship is it?
-
reminds me of the Bassalisk.
-
More like a Basilisk on steroids.
I like the main hull, but the wings kill it for me, they don't look shivan at all.
(edited for grammar justice)
-
It's like the next iteration of a Basilisk. Looks neat, just do something better with those wings :)
-
It's a great start, but it still looks too 'Terran' to me. It needs something to make it look more 'Shivan'.
-
Change the wings more to like the one on the side of the Dragon. You could even go for asymetry.
-
More pointy-ness on the wings. Vertical stablizers too.
Also for some reason a gull-wing design strikes me as extremely Terran. I can't really justify that, but it does.
-
Athena-Basilisk lovechild. Keep at it though. Make it assymetrical for one thing :)
-
hi,
mmhhh looks really interesting and nice.
good work.
for the drugs: drugs not good mkey ;)
Mehrpack
-
Looks good, if you want to rtweak the wings try looking at the nephlim
-
Yea, I had a feeling it was the wings that were causing the 'Terran' vibe...
I was aiming for wings like on the Nepllihim fused to a Bailisk hull. 'Fraid I'm not a fan of aysemetry, so that won't change (it also makes it easier to UV map + texture)
I'll have a stab at it tomorrow morning, have packing to do...

I do like the way you made the aft dorsal hull resemble the Demon. You could use to add some further detail to the nose though. I do realize however, that this is by no means a complete state. One further suggestion... that ventral spike. It looks a little weak. You could expand it somewhat to more like a fin, like the Ravana's spikes, though perhaps not quite so rounded... it'd break with the style of the rest of the ship. You could have it hook forward where a beam turret (as in, not player controled) would be mounted for anti-cap attacks.
-
As promised, some more work.
I've added inserts to the forward fuslage, added some extra ventral fins and reworked the central one, plus completely rebuilt the 'wings' (well, the middle and end sections. I'm reluctant to rework the upper missile racks since added those little spikes on the front was a pain and a half)

this kinda has that fs1 feel to it, i like.
-
I'd suggest you reduce the span of the old wing sections, and increase the size of the new wing segments by 2 or more.
-
I think it needs more spikes.
-
Vertical stablizers still need work...get rid of those chevrons on the wings, too.
-
More a like a Basilisk on steroids.
My thoughts exactly..Looks good, however, the engine things on the back look a little out of place, IMO
-
Well of course it looks like a Basilisk. Look at the first image.
-
All things considered I think it would make a trippy heavy destroyer \ carrier.
-
It looks like Basilisk MK2. Everything is just like it, but wings and longer nose.
-
A basilisk on 'roids, indeed. Cool, though.
-
Some more work done. I didn't like the old wing ends so I replaced those. I'm kinda stumped on how to add detail to the wing mid-sections.
This is (roughly) how the missile banks are arranged now. It used to be that bank 4 was in the outer-most wing sections, but there's more than enough room in the mid-sections.

Shivans do seem to get the short end of the stick (unless campaign mods have been hiding their new Shivan stuff :mad2:) Maybe someone should start a community modelling program for Shivans?
EDIT: Argh, the 25% compression on jpg is making the pics messy :ick:

Looks good, but did you say it was called the "Hydra"? You may want to come up with a new name becuase "Hydra" has been used twice already (once in Derelict for their upgraded Artemis, another time in Inferno for the Shivan stealth fighter).

Well, coming up with names for new ships is generally tough, since :v: used most of them already
THe general impression I've got is that as long as the prefix is different, than it's okay to use the same name.
For instance, the 'Inferno' fighter would be SF Hydra, while this would be a SB Hyda.
The name seems apporiate, since the plan is to have seven turrets on this craft (turrets = heads of the mythical beast)
Of course, if anyone can think of something else...

I doubt that. Shivan ship names (and ship type names) are based on bad characters from varies mythologies (Is "Demon" a friendly sounding name?) Just go through a list and find one that sounds cool.
-
Wraith, Wyvern, Vampire Centaur and Succubus come to mind immediately ;) Though I have a niggling feeling that Wyvern was a bomber someone made once, and I think I've seen Centaur before as well.
-
I've got another: Wyrm.
-
Centaur was the FS1 support ship, IIRC.
-
How about Xaphan? I remember reading somewhere that that was the name of the demon responsible for keeping the fires of hell burning.

As a point of accuracy, the Shivan Hydra fighter in Inferno wasn't the stealth, it was a scout. The stealth one was the Chimera.

oops :D
