Title: d20 goodness
Post by: Inquisitor on March 09, 2006, 11:18:19 am
Blatant cut and paste from my post on the SSX forums:

Not the final art and the flavor text on the back cover needs help, but I like sharing these things as they hit my inbox.

and the back:

Cool, looks like an interesting game from what I can tell. :)

Yeah, the back text REALLY needs help.  Right now it just looks like someone strung random scientific-sounding words together ad-hoc, and that certainly doesn't make me want to investigate more.

That's because that's what it is, just wanted to see how text would look on the back. Hence "the back cover needs help" ;)

And thanks for the moral support ngtm1r, I'll remember to insult the next thing you post that you've been working your ass of on.

Anyway, looks like after a really long time, and a large number of staff "issues" we finally get to call this project done. We're all pretty psyched. It may not be the best d20 setting out there, but it is ours. Now to get the miniatures contract sorted out once and for all.

I like the box set-up, the only thing I'd suggest is something between the large and small planet on the front, though, I'm stumped as far as 'what' is concerned.

The only other thing that occurs to me, though it's far from important, is the images on the back are in Red, whilst the front very much uses Blue, which makes it look like two different boxes. It may well look fine once it's all one piece though.

They are actually book covers.

I've seen contrasting colours like that work on bound material, though it depends on the binding.

Yeah, some people are hailing hte front cover as simple (need to re-arrange the text so it reads properly) and others (notably our own BD) have derided it for the same reason.

Re-arranging the text ( and changin it) to say:

Dark Horizons
Universe
Campaign Setting

May fill in that space, dunno. Pretty excited though when I see stuff like this. Means that it's finally almost done.

Ah, my mistake :)

Yup, I was actually thinking after I posted that the red/blue mix could give a sort of 'Doppler' effect to the imagery. :)

If anyone is interested in the table of contents and the credits :)

I'm really sorry, the comment is required from anyone who's a fan of Palladium Books, or they take away our RIFTS Core Rulebook. :( Particularly since D20 started copying the Palladium character generation system.

i'm not much of a P&P person, but i think GURPS would be a more widely adaptable choice, IMO

Is it old-school D&D or PC Game D&D?  If it's anything like Baldur's Gate 2, I'm Game.

What's d20?

d20 is the ruleset commonly used with D&D, however, it's seen use in neverwinter nights, Kotor, etc, etc.

Ok, how did that very ambiguous name come about? 20-sided dice?
