ulysses mk3 I suppose...
-
The Ship With No Name has parts from both the Ulysses and the Apollo.
-
Here's a better pic of the other ship:

-
Hmmm... eviler looking then the Ulysses. Make it Hellbat or something like that. Eitght thumbs and various other appendages up, at least until later tonight when I can go see it properly...
-
Hmm... I was planning on staying within the conventional FS naming system, but pantheon.org is down...
-
Here's some name from my Mythology book from school:
Callisto , Eros
Halcyon , Hydra
Io , Naxos
Phaedrus , Pyrrah
Rhesus , Scyros
The book has many more, but these, I think are the best ship names.

you might want to brighten up the thruster flames.

Ohhhh!!! I really like the Ship With No Name.
What's wrong with Ulysses Mk2? If not that, then how about Aeneas ("http://www.pantheon.org/articles/a/aeneas.html") (or maybe Aeneid?). When I think about next generation Ulysses, I think something like Ulysses (wandering around). And Aeneas was a Trojan warrior who survived Troy to wander to Rome.

I thought there was already a Ulysses Mk. II by Bobboau. I think it was nicknamed the Odysseues though.
EDIT: It was a reskin in the Volitionwatch Archives
Here ("http://archives.volitionwatch.com/download/fs2mod/Odysseus.zip") the download.

Well, I must say that this "new version" of the Ulysess looks cool. Dark and slick.
I like it.

Personally, I'd call it a GTF Manta Ray.
It looks kinda like a Manta Ray if you look at it just right...

Ulysseus is latin for Odysseus. So why not focus on early roman hero? If you want Greek, Theseus is the one who slew the minotaur. Tantilus is a cool name based on a royal family curse. Orestes is the name of the heroe who undid curse. Thats a few
-
What about names other that Greek? Seems kind of restricted though.

I'm already using the Theseus for a Ulysses Mk. III
-
hmmm..
how about..
GTF Magdalena?

I think I'll take GTF Scyros (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) They're both are now in POF, just editing gunpoints and stuff. How many gunpoints do you think they should mount? Right now I'm planning on 8 for the Scyros w/ a small gun energy storage and incompatibility w/ the Kaiser, and 6 for the Apollo Mk. 3 w/ a large energy bank and the Kaiser (It's a lot bigger.) Oh yeah, the Apollo is twice the length of the Scyros.
-
The thruster flames look kind of dark because the light's not hitting them and I didn't turn up the ambient glow enough.

Yeah, but does a reskin really count as a Mark 2? I mean the only Mark 1 -> Mark 2 we have to go by is Volition's making the Herc into a Herc Mk II. When they did that the ship had more than just a reskin, it was a completely different model, that looked like a newer, sleaker version of the Herc. In my opinion, any Marks have to have a different model than their predecessor.

Agreed

I got an idea for a Ulysses Mark 2. Add another two more wings to it. Give it a X-Wing look.
Sounds like a rip off though.

Both ships look real nice (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Make them a bit fatter... How can an engine fit on that design? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/confused.gif)
