This has been happening for a while, and I've been able to ignore it, but I'm starting to really miss it now.
Basically I think FSO isn't showing glow maps, regardless of whatever command line params or build I'm using, the only thing that makes the missing colours come back is by removing mv_textures.vp.
It all basically looks like this:

Yes this is a FRED2 screenshot, but it's exactly like that in FSO too.
My vid card is a Radeon X300 if that's any help. Also for some insane reason OpenGL crashes when entering mission, can't seem to fix that either, so I've been stuck with DX, from what I understand there's some sort of problems with Catalyst drivers + DX, yes? But I thought that was just shinemaps...
Meh, anyway, any and all help is greatly appreciated. My Shivans just arn't as scary as they used to be. :(

That's not a problem. FRED doesn't show shine or glowmaps until you actually play it in-mission.
-
I beg to differ.

You need to add the -shine and -glow command lines in FRED same way you would with -fredhtl and then you'll get proper shine and glow.
-
i was wondering why i didn't get those as well. i just thought it was something to preserve memory and we didn't have any control over it.

Cobra if you read my post it says:

karajorma: "Unrecognised parameter -shine, continue?" Heh.
As for my in-game glows, in my never ending efforts to fix stuff I tried installing the latest Omega drivers, and suddenly OpenGL works, and with it all the effects. No dice no DirectX still though, oh well! Microsoft can screw.
-
Does -jpgtga have any effect, or toggling -img2dds?
-
karajorma: "Unrecognised parameter -shine, continue?" Heh.
My bad. It is of course -spec not -shine. :)
Anyway the -glow one alone should have been enough to check if it solved the FRED problem at least (make sure you turn on lighting from suns in the view menu too).
-
Yeah FRED2 is loving it now. It runs OpenGL doesn't it now?
-
Yep it does. I think we need to address that OpenGL crash really. What happens if you run with a new pilot and no mediavp files?
If you've installed the media VPs into their own folder you can just run without mods to check.
-
The only crashes I'm getting are random stalls now, sometimes after five minutes, sometimes after two hours. Really weird stuff.
I'll check without media_vps and new pilot...
