Howdy folks
I've downloaded my three CDs, unrar'd 'em, burnt 'em off and installed the program - but I can't launch the program.
I've read a whole bunch of FAQs and other threads and I can't find my problem. To try and be helpful, I've uploaded the full error-log here:
http://nzlarps.org/nibelungen/errorlog.txt
Here's the top of that file:
FS2 caused an Access Violation in module Unknown at 001b:ffffffff.
Exception handler called in Freespace 2 Main Thread.
Error occurred at 3/17/2006 19:56:46.
C:\games\freespace2\FS2.exe, run by Craig Neilson.
2 processor(s), type 586.
512 MBytes physical memory.
Read from location ffffffff caused an access violation.
Please help me out, I am one seriously heart-broken kid.

Heart full of tears.
I can't wait to tell you lot what I plan to do with this.

SCRAP THIS!
I have reinstalled an it is now working as if by magic. It's been only a few minutes and I think it's changed my life forever. What a lark. I can't wait to get back and play but I had to come and correct myself as not to waste your time. Thanks to the handful of people who viewed my worthless topic. If anyone asks this question again, tell them to reinstall.
Tears of joy are welling up in my eyes. I'm bashing the desk and yelping like a gleeful toddler with a new favourite toy. I'm off to blow some **** up in my space ship.

Now get yourself over to the SCP forum and try out FS2_Open (Installation guide in my FAQ) cause it makes it even better :)
-
The idea of that makes my toes curl.
But I'm keen to play it through with the cut-scenes first, somehow. Do you reccomend this, or should I jump straight to the utopian glory of open source gaming?
-
FS2_Open allows you to play with the cutscenes. You just have to download the avi versions. Plus if you follow the instructions I give in my FAQ you can swap back to the standard version simply by running the old exe.
It's up to you to decide. You can either play through FS2 with the old graphics first and then play it again on Open and realise what a difference it makes or you can play it all the way through for the first time with the best graphics etc. Which you fancy doing is really a matter of choice for you. I just didn't want you to find out about Open later and wish you'd played it that way first :)

Except that on Open the Triton model always seems to have vanished. :nervous:

I cant tell you how many times that has happened to me and NOBODY KNOWS HOW TO FIX IT!!!!!

Shrink the texture. It's inconsistant because some cards can actually handle 2048x2048 without a problem, but those that don't behave oddly at times when they are all that is supplied.

What's really strange is that the Derelict version of the Triton works perfectly.
