Thank you Wanderer for finding the cause of the turret problem... The turrets don't fire correctly in the older builds, I dunno why. They work in fs2_open_r-20060306 build. Heres a little help with turrets, although I'm sure you already know this. Once you got a common turret linked and setup, save just the turret to a cob file and you can import it as needed (just move/rotate and rename)
And now introducing the corvette Kamranekh. This one started out not as the corvette but as the Vaktoth from SolSector's models, although very little of the original model remains intact. Approx. 100m long, complete with cockpit, although I rarely see it being used.

dud that's probably the worst angle to show Nico's cockpit!
Looks more like a light fighter to me, rather than a 'Vette
-
If you think it looks bad now. I use to have it with 3 crewmen, in a triangle shape, when you looked back UGH LOL
Like I said, I don't think you'll ever really use it, unless you want to pilot it :-\
As for the size....gunboat maybe?

Yeah, I'd say Gunship :) Damn fine work as usual, and considering what FS2 used to look like, I'd say that cockpit view is a massive improvement personally :)
-
Just curious....
What size would you give a corvette then? Cause the Ajax destroyer is about 500m long. BTW these are WC sized ships, not multi-km sized.
I think B5 ships are similar sized.
-
Yeah , from a FS point of view, a Corvette is a big ship, but from standard nautical definition, your ship would be considered a Corvette or a Frigate :)
-
Ya FS2's corvette keep goofing me up. Corvette it is... cause I have a couple frigates in the works and their definetely bigger than this one.
-
Are you going to release those other models separately like the Raptor and Excalibur?
-
Yes, I'll keep two VP's one for the model and one for common use stuff.
Btw, can someone recommend a good free file hosting site that at least lets me manage files? Rapidshare is way too clunky, especially if I find a problem and have to do an update.
Onward to the Vampire, it's about done anyways, not much left to do, just tweak here and there. Oh and I remained as faithful to the orignal as possible, even the texture was used as a template. Only thing different I'm doing to the pof is making it bigger to fit in with the rest.
This ones going to be poly-heavy due to it's rounded parts.

Remember you can use smooth groups to deal with rounded edges, it can save you a lot of polies ;)
Nonetheless, that looks really nice indeed!

Damn, this vampire looks great. Let me make two suggestions though:
1) the gun mount in the nose shuold be a little bigger, at least that's how I remember them (especially from the cover-arts)
2) I would remove the sharkmouth texture from the engine pods, looks deplaced IMO.
BTW, I have modeled a piranha-class light fighter, but it lacks textures (I'm not very good at texturing fighters somehow). Interested in texturing it ? I wouldn't mind if you include the model to your sortiment :) I would just like it to be as close to the game as possible, I can give you the orignal textures for reference
-
Sorry haven't had a chance to resize the turret, although this one nearly matches the SocSector's model. First I did some mesh smoothing with the original mesh and came to the conclusion that it was way too difficult, so I ended up making a whole new mesh and used the old one as a size/shape template.
It still needs some work... now I wish we had thurst vectoring subobjects. Btw should I enable that forward turret (using very light laser) or leave it disabled like in the game?

Oh btw, Starman give me a few days and I'll have hopefuly a nice suprise for you ;)

Sweet design, Scoobs. I get Wing Commander vibes. My one critique, it could use some weathering or battle scarring for mor personality.
I second the request for thrust vectoring effects.

I'll do a second skin that looks more "worn". This one is as close to canon as i can get to the original texture.
