Title: modding freespace in-game music?
Post by: freespacefanatic73 on March 19, 2006, 03:46:40 pm
Whats going on fellas. I'm new to the forums but ive' been a big fan of freespace 1 and 2 for several years. The open source version of fs2 is pretty awesome. However i do have a question regarding adding my own music. I've added music from my collection of tunes but when I play the game the songs get cut so short throughout missions. What i'm asking basicly, is there a way for me to remedy this where I can get more air time for each jam or am i stuck with my songs changing about every 30 seconds like it seems to do?

Freespace2 uses a dynamic music system that changes to the situation. You'll have to extract and edit the music table to allow for longer playing of your tunes.

I'd recommend just muting the freespace music and playing them with your preferred music player in the background. ;)

Grug, thanks for the advice. i'll probably do the media player trick for the time being, but on one my off days i'll jump into the table and wreak a little havoc a little bit and see what happens.  :pimp:

Peace,
Kevin

just be careful of what you do to the music table. that thing is bloody screwy. if you don't do the exact right thing it might screw up all your music. :)

You ever done the mission where you twat NTF capships coming through the gate (forget the name) to Sabaton's 'Primo Victoria.' It's a real rush! :D

I'm quite fond of fighting big battles to Frank Klepacki's "Ride the Worm".

For "Samples Per Measure", I noticed an interesting thing: You had to double the number of samples if the track is stereo.  Seems obvious to me now, but was really killing me when I tried to work out why the songs were cutting in the middle of the track.
