I can't get this joystick to work with freeSpace 2. Have selected it in launcher but does not work when the game is run. It works with other games.
Any suggestions?

Is it plugged in correctly?
Also,
:welcome:
I don't know the little paragraph intro thing, but it's funny.
-
Yes it's plugged in correctly.
It's a USB joystick, i'm running the game on windows XP+SP2
-
Did you calibrate it correctly in control panel? If it's not that I don't know what it is. :/
-
Does this joystick come with any kind of software, and if so is it up to date? Has this joystick worked with Freespace before or is this your first time playing Freespace?
-
It' s the first time I'm playing freespace
The joystick uses windows generic drivers as it doesn't need specific drivers, although I did download drivers from the saitek website and install them, but this didn't solve my problem
Other than selecting the joystick from the launcher is there a way to select it in-game?
-
The joystick should be enabled by default. There's a slim chance that it may be unbound from the flight controls, but that would be fairly unlikely. Double-check the settings in the launcher, recalibrate it using the launcher controls, and create a new pilot when you start FSO, and if it still doesn't work then I don't know what to suggest.
To note, it will not work in the interface screens, only in-mission.

Try that there, in the 2nd post.

If setting the stick as preferred controller for older games doesn't work, try getting rid of profiler programs, they sometimes screw things up (albeit enabling more options for newer games). The stick should work just as well (as basic functions) even if you never put that installation cd into your PC. True plug-in-devices these nowadays sticks are.

It's working now :)
set it as preferred device for older games, never knew about that setting
thanks!
