Title: Best way to troubleshoot
Post by: NcFSO on March 20, 2006, 11:28:15 am
Hi,

I'm running FS2_scp 3.6.7 with all the vp. files.  I experience terrible slowdown in most missions.  The missions starts fine but I often encounter a point where the game slowdown to a crawl.  I can usually hit escape and then cancel to get some speed back but just for a few seconds.

When I started playing, I did turn all eye candy on.  I'm running on A64 3200+, 512 mb ram and Radeon 9800 pro 128mb.  I thought my system could handle it.  I've since turned off some features of scp but it still gives me problem.  I've also encountered some system crash

What is the best way to troubleshoot this issue ?  Should I run in debug mode to see where the problem is ?  Or use one of the CVS build ?  I wouldn't know which one to use.

Thanks !

Have you installed it the way I suggested in my FAQ (using a mediavps folder) or using the giant torrent containing everything?

If so simply click the no mod button on the mods tab in the launcher and try it again. If that works fine we know the problem is the media VPs.

Hang on a sec. Scratch that. We can try that if this doesn't work. Run the game, alt-Tab bad to the desk top and press control-alt-delete to get the task manager up. Select the FS2_Open exe and right click on it. Choose processor affinity and then make sure that only one CPU is selected. Alt-tab back into the game.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.  Yes I did install all the vp files in a separate folder and I did play with no mod.  I did play better so I know the problem are the special features of scp.  But how can I know which on is causing the problem ?  I guess I have to try them one at the time then ?

The most likely cause is the adveffects or effects VP files. Try everything but those two first as it will save you a fair bit of time.
