You _do_ realize that the ganymede wouldn't be missing peices too? Right...?

And for gods sake! Bump map that ring!!!

no monkey, but the surface that had the rest of the ring also was the surface for the wires that go through the ring... so it would look like wires would be going through the Orion.

I DID bump map it dumbmonkey, the texture doesn't show enough detail to have a visible effect from that range though...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif)

Looks nice. But I know how you put the holes in the ships, and with LW you could have done it better  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) But it is a nice shop - well done  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

And how might I go about that? Using Lightwave Modeler and cutting out holes manually? I haven't even tried using modeler except once, and it was a hellhole... but once you learn it its good(as KMN's work suggests)

Like I said...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

It's kinda advanced, and you might need a bit more experience under your belt, but when you're ready (and bored - helps to have lots of time to kill), pull up a tute and give it a go.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I like the render.

Wonder how Vasudans construct their ships?

Obviously.

I meant how the shipyards look like? Anyone with a render of it?

Wow. Looks like a rib cage to hold the ship.

What you might want to do is show small freighters carrying parts of the Orion, etc.  Maybe even sections of it currently being built.

with lightwave you can press the "make ship" button and it does it all automatically.

use booleans or use a particle array with no movement and collapse/meshedit the chunks if you're using max.

If you using maya or XSI..errr...you'd be building it all in hi detail :P

Not sure about any others.  I like the concept..but maybe try putting some lattice-type objects in to make it more realistic.
