Title: CVS Builds, Alt. (Linux, OS X, source)
Post by: taylor on March 26, 2006, 04:40:34 am
Linux builds:
... comming soon ...

OS X Universal Binary (requires 10.4+):
20060427 (http://icculus.org/~taylor/fso/nightly/20060427-OSX.dmg)

Source tarball:
20060502 (http://icculus.org/~taylor/fso/nightly/fs2_open-20060502.tar.bz2)

NOTES:
Linux builds are statically linked with SDL and OpenAL, but require a recent OpenGL installed (from NVIDIA, from ATI, or Mesa3D 5.02+).
OS X builds include all needed frameworks except for OpenAL (which should be included with 10.4+).
Source tarball requires the devel packages for SDL, OpenAL and OpenGL.

Hmm... the Mac build won't even run for me. It shows up on the dock then immediately vanishes.

Hmm, I tested it before packaging and they worked for me.  The included frameworks could be screwed up again, check the console log and see if there is an error message there about missing something.

Damn, the Ogg and Vorbis frameworks are messed up.  Third time in a row I've managed to get the wrong thing in there.   An updated version is uploading now so give it about 10 minutes and download it again.  Hopefully it will work fine this time.

Now I've just got to get the right framework versions in CVS, again.  :sigh:

Has the new version been uploaded yet? I tried downloading it again recently but got the same problem.

It's been updated twice actually, both times the same day.  It has been confirmed as fixed though, by multiple sources, so I know the last version uploaded is working.  Make sure that you are actually using the updated builds, and let me know what gets spit out to your console log if it still isn't working for you.

taylor, you could link to the Fs2 open on Linux wiki (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Fs2_open_on_Linux) in your post.

UPDATE:  Build 20060427 for OS X has been posted.  The corresponding source tarball will follow later this afternoon.

UPDATE2:  Tarball 20060502 has been posted.  Nothing has really changed code wise from the 20060427 OS X build so it won't be updated until some more CVS commits are made.

Is it possible to just get a cvs release for linux when i already have fs2 installed? I mean, it's like that for windows, just get the latest cvs with the launcher with an fs2 install and you're good to go? Is it like this for linux yet? WINE sucks, and i don't feel like messing with the fs2 open on linux wiki because it looks unnecessarily difficult for how easy it is to get the game working on windows and macosx. On the other hand, is fs2 on linux in a pre-beta stage still?

fs2_open on Linux is no more pre-beta than it is under Windows.  Most of the Linux folk just like to use the source and make their own binaries so it hasn't been a big thing for me to get binaries out, especially since it takes a good bit of time for me to do.

3.6.9 will have binary versions for Linux though, and there will be a RC build this weekend for Linux/x32 and Linux/x64.

There will be, I've just been pissed off at Apple for breaking OpenAL.  :p  :D

And I've been out-of-town this weekend and had to work too much last week to get builds out.  "Soon" is the best that I can do, but I really need to get new OS X builds out this coming week.
