Title: Random Question time
Post by: Porthos on March 30, 2006, 01:53:40 pm
What exactly do you have to do differen't in the last mission in retail FS2 to have Alpha 1 live instead of die?

Reach the node and jump before time runs out..

Not doing it like i once did it, pressing alt-J twice in rapid succession effectively aborting jump just the only time when i absolutely shouldnt have done it...

What would you do in real life? You would jump out of the system ofcourse. To do this, you naturally have to be in the jumpnode and activate your jumpdrive (like ending a mission). Making it inside the node in time might be a bit hard, but since you have the advantage of knowing what might happen you can ignore all those civillians. They're gonna die anyway, so when the third wave of refugees is about to arrive, head for the node (or simply sit in the node throught the whole mission, makes no difference). And jump out when the **** hits the fan.

EDIT: What? Wanderer beat me to it. I couldn't possibly have spent 6 minutes typing that message!

Of course, you usually get hit a few seconds before the counter reaches 00, so be sure to get there in good time.

Not that it makes any difference if you don't have the cutscenes, of course.

Actually before you play check the name of the cutscenes. They should be endprt2a and endprt2b (Notice the lack of an a in prt).

Alright, sounds simple enough.

When I flew that mission the first time, I reached the node and tried to jump out, and it didn't work . Is that why?

The misnamed movie files? Nah. That wouldn't have affected your jump out.

Same. I was out saving civilians like 4 or 5 clicks from the node if I remember correctly.. in an Ares.. didn't make it back in time.

I've played that mission several times, but I've never made it out alive even once. I always feel so bad for the civilians when they start blowing up that I rush over at full speed and when the supernova warning goes on I'm six clicks away  :p

I was flying an Ares 2 kilometers from the jump node when I got the supernova warning, and I still made it out (I belive), you just need to care more about Alpha 1 than thousands of random (useless) civillians, just remember humanity depends on Alpha 1, every day. As the mission progresses, get closer to the jump node, when the Cains jump in, then get within 2K of it, and divert all power to engines.

Just checked, the Ares should be able to fly two kilometers in 21 seconds.
M + A / 2 = M1
2000 / M1 = T

62 + 120 / 2 ≈ 91
2000 / 91 ≈ 21
