Title: Cancelled D3 frag video WIPs
Post by: Rake on March 31, 2006, 08:50:23 pm
*edit - The links have been removed, as the vid has been taken offline.

Yeah, so I was making a Descent 3 frag vid for the last 9 months, that I recently cancelled for various reasons. It had considerable work left to be done (the average skill level was no where near where I wanted it to be), but Descent is marginally related to FS, so I thought the final WIPs could be of interest.

So, here they are, in the intended order they would have run in the final video:

Segment 1 - 86 MB, 4:04

Segment 2 - 70 MB, 3:30

Segment 3 - 78 MB, 3:34

Segment 4 - 54 MB, 2:22

Those are compressed with Xvid, which you can get right here (http://download.divxmovies.com/XviD-1.1.0-30122005.exe).

Segment 2 had the most work done to date, and is probably the vid of most interest anyway, given its song and the style of footage used as a result. Segment 4 is all Co-op that was intended to become the credits scene (scrolling text probably). Segments 1 and 3 are rock, with 3 being intended as a killing spree vid (this footage wasn't particularly good yet, though).

Credits.

Yeah, so... what did you think of my Fraps/Photoshop/VirtualDub work at that point?

And for kicks, this was the sig banner pic thing for the vid:

Nice!

I was a fan of your Flail videos. Do you mind if I ask why this was cancelled?

I was putting off a more important project (novel series), to do the vid, and I recently decided it wasn't worth it anymore.

Think of it this way: I write books, I have a career. I make vids, I have... nothing.

Of course, the lack of community support, lack of players, lack of games on worthwhile maps, lack of a working mission recorder, etc. etc. etc., certainly contributed.

Ah, fair enough then. Good luck with your novels. :)

The vid and its various secondary items have been deleted, and their links have been removed from the first post.

WTF is a "frag vid"?

Because the server they were hosted on expired today.

WTF is a "frag vid"?

To my knowledge they don't exist in FS, so download this (http://www.own-age.com/vids/mirrors.aspx?id=660).

host them on another server?

No point I'm afraid. Interest in the vids is over at this point, and it will not return in the future. Putting them back online is a waste of time and someone else's resources.
