Still need to add glowpoints, but the model seems to be working properly. No major hicups converting to pof.

Ugh, nevermind till April 1 is over LOL
-
Looking pretty good. :)
-
That's quite excellent, and the cockpit designs you've come up with are pure class... remind me again how to bring up the cockpit again?
-
It's pretty good, but those striped engines are kinda funny looking :p
-
Not sure what to put for the engine cowes..
and more pics.... this time the Rapier. This ones undergone several repaints over and over again LOL
I need to redo the cockpit... theres barely any viewing room.

:whistles: Nice.

I agree.
-
the only criticisim i have to make is that the Athena still looks bloated. thin it out.
the other models and cockpits are spectacular though. :yes2: :D
-
Sorry about the Athena... if I keep strechting it out, I'll have to start reporportion(sp?) it to keep it under 800m, it's already 780m some....
Wait.. is there a class between destroyer and cruiser? (in nautical terms, not FS2)
-
If you're looking for the name of a class directly between the two - much like the Battlecruiser, a half-way point between Cruiser and Battleship - you'll have to make one up. Just go for the old chestnut of 'Heavy Destroyer' or 'Light Cruiser', or just come up with an entirely new class to fit the role you ship is best suited to, such as Escort Destroyer or soforth.
-
Well it was already classified as a heavy destroyer, armed with medium weaponary, only cruisers and up carry the really big heavy guns. Although the Ajax is so small compared to it, it's almost in a monitor.
Now this is a cruiser, now what type of cruiser, cruiser or strike is still up in the air. I'll start converting as soon as the Athena has its glow points.
BTW how is scripted animation done? I know the objects must be subobjects in the pof and the center of rotation is on the rotating axis. Which axis is used and what is the subobject's pof entries? It's is for the launch doors on the front of the fighter bay.

-
wow, sweet, any idea whan these will be available?
-
WTR.
-
Isnt there already a ship called athena :p
-
Most ship names are taken already. There's nothing wrong with having two ships named something common like Athena...but if there were two Golgothas however, that'd be weird.
-
"Alpha, the Golgotha will be jumping in momentarily!"
"OH NOES!"
-
LOL "don't worry Alpha 1 we've got a wing of Sathanas jumping in to help you"
As far as I know athena (my own naming), pirhana (the missile), demon and dragon are the only name collisions offhand, and since theres a title (GTCv....) theres no problem with missions.
BTW, bloat on the Athena isn't the main problem... As I was getting the glowpoints setup, I found out the fighter bay is too small for the big ships (like excalibur)... OPPS "Sorry alpha 1 you'll have to land somewheres else". Course this is a destroyer, their not suppose to carry the big fighters/bombers, just medium/light defense fighters.

and now the Aurora has been converted, just needs the glow/engine points left (I think)
Strike cruiser class, replacing the well out-of-date Hades class as top dogs in this class.

Could someone explain a few things about cockpit views for me please:
1) Are they available in the 3.6.7 vps or do you need special models for them?
2) How do you turn the cockpit view on?

2) How do you turn the cockpit view on?
1) You need special models. I think the new Hercules and Erinyes models have them, not sure about others. Crucially, you need to have viewpoint set correctly, or it looks wrong.
2)There's a flag in the ship.tbl entry called something like "show_ship"; this means the ship is still drawn when. you're 'inside' it; i.e. the cockpit is visible, as is the exterior of the ship (wings, gun barrels, etc; i.e. everything you'd be able to see)
-
Unfortunately, if you look behind you in "show ship" mode, your own craft will block vision. We need support for multiple eyepoints, where views are based on their normals.

Does this already work correctly ? Last time I tried it (which has been a few months back) only a part of my ship was visible in back view, and I could look through the rest of the ship while while viewing backwards. However, in the test I didn't have a cockpit on the model and the eyepoint was inside the model, so maybe that was why.
P.S. To clarify my post, I actually like it that the cockpit/model is blocking my view backwards.

I kind of like that, to be honest. Although I think there is multiple eyepoint support - I'm pretty sure of it, because I remember the old vesuvius having an problem with one of the eyepoints using a different model reference number and causing a view offset problem).
@Starman01;
I think it depends on the camera/viewpoint position. There's a certain clipping radius whereby it will show through objects that are 'too close'. I think WMC (sorry if wrong person here) fixed a number of the clipping problems relating to the cockpit, though, so it may be corrected.
-
Well, if that's possible/fixed now, I think we might use new models for all player craft, escpecially now that we have a cockpit creating fighter modelling guy in the team :D
-
I know it's impossible, but a rear-view mirror would be cool :D
Edit: from the FS2 engine that is..
-
Hey Scoob I posted something you might want to take a look at, at the other forum.
-
dude, you make really good cocpit interiors. all my interiors just have a bunch of plasma screens with a posix-esc user interface on it :D
-
And now the Essex or Nimitz class carrier (not sure which one LOL). It still needs some small lighting effects here and there plus engine glow.
Replaces the obsolite Victory/Ranger classes and follows in their footsteps as a light carrier

Hot.
-
Chunky.

About the Thunderbold. While I like the idea of having these structures on the wings I would prefer them mor like this / \ instead of | |
Also the hull seams to be just flat. The interesting part about the Thunderbold was that the main body was broken up into different sections.
Ok that are just artistic points of view. In general I like your idea.
If you need more ideas...well here are two for you
(http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/5016/arttbolt3xk.th.jpg) (http://img390.imageshack.us/my.php?image=arttbolt3xk.jpg) (http://img430.imageshack.us/img430/8387/arttboltproto0lf.th.jpg) (http://img430.imageshack.us/my.php?image=arttboltproto0lf.jpg)
I prefere the right one but would exchange the bigger aft wings with the left side version.
-
Ah, good timing. I was going to ask you for those concept arts, I always liked the right version, I would love to see that one modelled
-
I like the one right one too (especially those canards). I might do that one too. Maybe a Mark VIII (coming after the Secret op version), the one i posted could be a black-op expermental version since it carries a heavy gun slung underneath it. And since I should still have the older max files around it shouldn't be to hard to fork off a variant.
-
SWEET. cant wait for the dl like for these... just brillant.
